He's still 18 and has rough edges for sure, but for an 18yo he is showing real personality and character and imposing himself on games. Add that to his ability and skill set and you have huge potential.

Embolo and Dembele are not quite the same, Dembele likes to run/dribble at players more I think, but I like both players very much. Both are robust enough for the EPL, but both are multi faceted, hard working, technically very good, hold the ball well, bring others into play. But both can score goals too.

I'd be happy with either.

I'm pretty sure the Embolo ship has long since gone.

Last TW when the Mirror was kindly suggesting he was an option for us at £10m, Basle had already turned down a bid in excess of £20m from Wolfsburg, and he's got another season under his belt now.

Only reason Basle may sell is if they think he's plateaued rather than being on an upwards trajectory in his performances and goalscoring, as sometimes happens with players (Michael Ricketts anyone ?).

Whilst i agree in parts with the above, what you've missed is that some of the total squad qill get injured this season. This is just how football is and as such saying that Pritchard & Njie will be like 2 new signings is true, but say for example Dier and Lamela got injured then it would be like losing two key players for us.

I just think, having watched us this season, that assuming we have the quality in squad depth to compete for winning the PL, CL and cups next season is niave.
Whilst players will undoubtedly get injured, it is very unlikely that we will lose 2 players for basically an entire season on top of other long term injuries (Bentaleb & Mason) like we have this season. Even if we did, we should still be in a better position next season as our first team will be a year on in their development and so will our youth team (Edwards etc). We also have the likes of Ward coming back, who has been getting rave reviews out on loan.

I'm pretty sure Embolo is no Ricketts. I haven't seen much of Basel this season, but I don't think Embolo has had the kind of season that will have drastically upped his fee - a good thing IMO. I think he's played a lot of games as an AM as they play Janko up front on his own (I believe). I think if we were prepared to bid £20m+ for Berahino, I'd have no problem at all offering something similar for Embolo.

And if you think the ship has sailed re Embolo, then it's halfway across the ocean with Oussmane Dembele, who's this season's hot young thing in Europe pretty much.

I'm not disagreeing that there may well be bigger fish than us circling both these ships and I don't put our chances as high of signing either. Just giving an opinion of the players.

He also said we were looking at Lassana Diarra from Marseille as he will be on a free this summer. He's been immense for them this season and would be able to do a role similar to what Kante has done for Leicester. I've always rated him and think he would be a good addition, certainly on a free.

I don't reckon Bill Murray himself could cope with another summer of Spurs being linked to Lassana Diarra without ever signing him. Scary stuff.

Anyone watched Idrissa Gueye for AVilla? I was looking at stats and saw that he is really close to Kante in tackles and even bests Kante in interceptions. He has 60 more tackles than Dier(126 to 66) while dier has more passes (1795 to 1641). No redcards but does have 8 ycards. He's 26 and seems to be the only shining light at Villa. talk of him going to Marseille to fill the void for when Lass Diarra leaves.

Comp of him vs chelsea

Quite like us to bid for Rashford.

'Title chasing Spurs bid big for Man U kid'

Imagine the United Fans meltdowns and anguish. Too much fun.

It's hard to say if he's any good by that video, I think it's more to do with the poor opposition. :sneaky:

I really hope Liverpool don't get into the CL. Quite a few times we've been after the same players and it's quite possible players would prefer to go to Liverpool if we're in the same competition.

Think the London factor is bigger than most people realise.

Don't think any educated, young player would go to them over us right now tbh - as long as they've got decent advisors.

so far over this last 2 weeks all you seem to harp on about is IF we get injuries. so how many players should we sign in case of injuries to prepare for next season? yes there are always chances a player might get injured, but you can't cover every single player on a POSSABILITY

Liverpool might pay more wages, but their draw isn't the same anymore as some might think.

IMO we're the most exciting team in the league. Huge prospects and possibilities. Liverpool will be a force again, but think we're in a much better position right now to attract the better players (considering they haven't grown up supporting Liverpool)

And that's all contingent on them winning the Europa League which is a massive ask

As i've said numerous times 3-4 players in with the same number leaving - which would leave us with the same sized squad as this season.

And it's not a case of IF we get injuries, it is a case of WHEN we get injuries, they are inevitable.

And yes you can, that's what a squad is for. In fact even in a lean 22 man squad that's exactly enough for 1 cover player for each of your main starting 11 players.

At the moment though, assuming Poch only wanted to have a squad of 22 players we have:

GK: LLoris | Vorm
RB: Walker | Trippier
RCB: Toby | ?
LCB: Jan | Wimmer
LB: Rose | Davies
DM: Dier | ?
CM: Dembele | Bentaleb
AM: Lamela | Chadli / Clinton
AM: Alli | Mason
AM: Erikssen | Son
ST: Kane | ?

Then you have Carroll (CM), Onomah (AM), Winks (CM) and Pritchard (AM), although Onomah and Winks technically can be outside the 22 man squad.

For me though that's 3 clear positions in the 22 man squad we need to fill. Also we have two players for one role in Chadli and Clinton. However i think it would be worth holding on to both or replacing one of them with an upgraded player if possible.

Assuming we hang on Pritchard this season then that would take the squad up to 24 players in total plus Onomah and Winks.

Was talking to a mate of mine this evening (big Liverpool supporter - tried to avoid him today of all days) and he's absolutely convinced Henderson is nailed on for Spurs in the summer. Can't see it myself and nor do I want to see it. Thoughts?

I think for now there's still a factor of players now who were young kids when Liverpool were one of the tops viewing them as a prestigious place to go, but as this next generation comes in and Liverpool is in and out of the top four, that will fade away. So for now, I do think Liverpool still hold an element of allure, but the times are indeed changing.

Oh, I agree about that, but I think players, especially young ones with potential (ie our current targets), now have more career advisors and, even if they did watch Liverpool as kids, they'll eventually choose us for their career - particularly with the London factor.

Eg - Sigurdsson, Alli (to an extent, could've kicked up a fuss to join Liverpool (his boyhood club))

but even WHEN we get those injuries, it doesn't mean they won't happen to an area we are not over strong with in cover. @Trix 1 of our ITK has already said there won't be major ins and outs.

to have real sufficient cover, we would need an extra GK in case (I know you haven't said a GK) but not our strongest, we need cover for Toby, just in case CCV has to face Barca, if CCV has to face Barca it will be a learning curve for the lad, cause anyone that would play v Barca won't have an easy night, we only have 1 striker, well surely we need 2 more just in case we need cover for the cover, I could go on all night.

we have a great squad, that needs a little tinkering, and like every team hope we don't get hit with a massive injury list.
