How fast is Thauvin?

Please no Fifa or FM stats.

Lightning fast. He has sublime close control and pace, which he can switch on in a heartbeat. Good dribbler of the ball and a good finish too from close and mid range. He can work on his crossing a bit, but low balls and cut backs he has nailed down. Its his pace that does it for me though. IMO will reach the level of Griezmann one day and is definently faster already.

Cost: 20 Million Euros

But maybe we could send Capoue in the opposite direction to lower the price?

Thauvin would be a good purchase. Any player from Marseille would be good honestly, as Bielsa has them playing our manager's preferred style. The only concern I have is that he is often subbed off early. He is still developing, I'm not sure he could make an immediate impact.

It's difficult to know what would appeal to Marseille player-wise because their situation for next season is up in the air - they don't know whether Bielsa will still be there, they're going to have massive player turnover with several leaving on Bosmans and others like Thauvin attracting interest. One of the main options for next season if Bielsa leaves is Ranieri, who would have very different player demands! (although given the chairman completely ignored Bielsa's list of preferred players last season, it may be irrelevant)

They can't really turn down a hefty offer for Thauvin as they're not exactly loaded, and I imagine they'd prefer that to a player exchange if Bielsa stays as any players not deemed suitable for Poch will definitely not meed Bielsa's demands of them (the only exception here might be Stambouli, who was on Bielsa's wish list last season).

By all accounts, Thauvin has been terrible this season and has an attitude problem. I think we should look elsewhere and could even do better than him imo.

About as fast as Lamela. Maybe just a titchy bit faster, but not much. Definitely not lightning.

Most of that is an exaggeration. He is in fact almost identical to Lamela in that he does at times demonstrate great technique and vision, but also demonstrates an eraticness and unreliability and wastefulness too. He also works off the ball like Lamela and tries hard.

what does a thauvin do that a lamela doesn't?

Nothing right now.

Thauvin still seems too much like Lamela for me.

Because he is, in almost every way.

if thats the case then its out of the frying pan into the fire ........ so no thanks.
That said it wouldn't surprise me given the links this week that we want rid of Lamela

I'm a big fan of Thauvin but he seems like he could be another Ben Arfa just waiting to happen. Obviously I don't know the lad and he may well be nothing like the reports claim, but I'd be equal parts excited and nervous if we did sign him.
