Looks like Lens is fast becoming a club of interest for us. Medina looks significantly more gettable than some of our other targets for that position.

Also shows what a good young player Joao Pedro is. Lots of Watford fans and players rave about him. Danny Rose said in an interview when asked who shocked him the most at Watford with their ability that Joao Pedro was the player that stood out
Wonder how much he’d cost with Watford going down?

Whether people are in favour of it or not, the 5 subs next year could really play into our hands. Being able to switch out both wing backs on 60/70 minutes to refresh them and still having 3 subs left is a huge plus.

This leads on to what others have been saying, we need quality on the bench and we shouldn’t look at it from a “can’t buy player x as that means player y might not start” point of view. Having a quality squad of 22 odd outfield players, gives Conte so much flexibility and coupled with the 5 subs, will hopefully mean our mid week short rest games become as good as the full week rest ones.
Yup completely agree. It’s why have quality rotation options is so important. Plus moving to a 3 5 2 bringing on the right ball controlling cm if we are 1 or 2 goals up but on the back foot would be so useful to have.

we need the options, look at how we bested Liverpool… it was 3 5 2 not 3 4 3 with late midfield runs, which we need a player who can do that like Erikson or barella type. We need to be fluid against opposition and be able to change things up to counter each team and to change when in a game.

Rather see a taller lcb with more aerial prowess considering that we have been conceding too much in the air.

I’ve never really been a fan of Pau Torres and have found him overrated on the whole, but I must say that the last two games against Bayern he was excellent. Very calm on the ball with excellent distribution and great defensively.

I only mention because we have been linked in the past and he’s a tall ball playing LCB. He still wouldn’t be my first choice but hypothetically if Conte got him to play like that every week he could be good for us.

Just wish he is better aerially. He's really weak in that area.

Much prefer Bastoni IF possible

Can Ginter play LCB? I know the left foot thing may be an issue, but some footballers can use both ?

Nope never plays there. Usually RCB or CB in a 3, so competition for Romero, Dier. For a free that is smart business. I think Sanchez will leave so Ginter or De Vrij + a LCB would be great.

United makes absolutely no sense. I don’t get why they’re being linked. They have David De Gea, Dean Henderson, Tom Heaton and Lee Grant.
Henderson will almost certainly want 1st team football at a different club next season, and Heaton and Grant have an average age of 37.

Every chance he goes there and becomes their number 2.

I suppose so but there needs to be lots of changes for that situation to arise whereas at Spurs he knows he’ll be our no.2 with every chance of succeeding Lloris if he performs.

Obviously what you say is entirely plausible but I’d be shocked if he went to United who still currently have 4 senior goalkeepers on their books.

Oh Bastoni is my absolute number one choice by a large distance. He could well be one of the best in the world in a few years.

I’m not saying I want Torres, just saying it was the first time I watched him and thought he might be good. He was even good in the air against Lewa etc.

It'll be interesting to see if the 5 sub rule significantly changes football.

In theory, teams would be looking to swap out 2 central midfield players at half time, basically to refresh the 'engine' of their team.

Which may well give richer teams a massive advantage, as they (in theory) have better squad players in their side.

We were going to need 4 or 5 very good CMs next season, but this may mean it's even more vital to sign a couple of replacements for Lo Celso and Winks.

Yup - added to this, players who are well into their 30s might not be such a risk to sign, if they're only playing 30 to 45 minutes a game.
