Darren Byfield's been Tweeting about it this evening. He says he's spoken to Rueben Hazell who was in the dressing room with Adeyemi, and the player claims to have been racially abused. Byfield (and Jason Roberts, who has also been Tweeting about the incident) has also been retweeting some of the abuse they've received since.

One tweet from an intelligent individual states, "I back Suarez an[d] I don't give a fuck if he's racist". Stan Collymore's getting in on the act now and has retweeted this lovely message: "Has anyone ever called you Stan Cooneymore #bellend".

A man has been arrested over claims by ex-footballer Stan Collymore that he was sent racial abuse on Twitter.

Collymore contacted Staffordshire Police who passed on the complaint to Northumbria Police.

The 21-year-old man, believed to be from the Newcastle area, is currently in police custody on suspicion of racially-aggravated harassment.

Collymore, 40, originally from Cannock, Staffordshire, played for a string of top clubs in his career.

He now works as a broadcaster for talkSPORT.

Collymore also campaigns against racism and is a supporter of the charity Depression Alliance.

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: "Just after midnight police received a complaint of racist comments that had been made on Twitter.

"Officers are carrying out inquiries."

Gerrard and Kuyt reacted in the right way and were a credit to Liverpool but the fans are now being just as crazy and paranoid as ever.

:bang:

I'm almost certain that was a sarcastic post, it literally cannot be an actual opinion.

The really funny thing about Liverpool fans is the hero worshi that they lavish upon a player who has actually produced very little since his arrival. They genuinely believe that he is World Class and one of the league's best.

Why? Is there a Ballon D'Or for hitting the woodwork?

The theory that they were Man U fans (Or even newspaper reporters dressed as Liverpool fans to create a story) received a lot of support last night on various Liverpool forums. The consensus seemed to be that it was the most likely explanation.

I must say that I have been shocked and disgusted by the Pool fans on LFC reds. In general they are the most deluded fans anyway so we shouldn't really be surprised but most of the comments on there are unbelievable. They just seem to believe that the whole world is out to get them and that there is no way that they could do anything wrong.

I have been in the crowd at the county ground when Collymore got so much racist abuse from County fans it was untrue and my own cousin (Cyrille Regis) used to have bananas thrown at him and get stick that you wouldn't believe, and Liverpool's handling of this as a club has brought all of the knuckle-draggers out of the woodwork. I think that the FA should fine them for bringing the game into disripute and inciting racial hatred.

It is a disgrace and their team and fans should be relentlessly booed at every single ground that they visit.

Disgusting!

At least it brought the Kop to life for a bit. I enjoyed the full volume singing of Luis Suarez.

Quite fitting, given what's transpired. No one really seemed to know what had gone on but we all guessed it was something along the racist line due to the full on crying pantomime the Oldham player was going on.

Stupid whopper.

This seems to be the consensus from LFC Reds and RAWK.
The fact that Dagleish refused to even comment on it, even to say, "I don't know what happened, but we will look into it", sounds like King Kenny trying to keep the fans on his side. Pity they seem to be small minded bigots. As an aside my Liverpool supporting cousin hates the fans on both these sites, so they are not all bad lol

See how one messy person can cause a domino effect of mess. Thank Suarez for showing out against Man Utd and not thinking of the repercussions towards the club. It's like some family gatherings, all you need is one fool to mess it up for everyone else.

Reading this thread I see how there is no way of deterring those who honestly see no wrong in addressing anyone by their ethnicity, culture, or religion. I guess it all comes down to how you were raised and the ideology that was instilled in you.

Totally still a Liverpool fan, just not of all the players. Very happy this mess hasn't occured over here in the states for some time now and hope it never enters our games. Never thought I'd say how happy I was to not have the opportunity to go to a live game and see Liverpool play, but I am happy for now if it means I don't have to come across plain foolishness when trying to enjoy a good game.

I have been reading this thread on LFC reds and it is so disturbing. I know that there is a great deal of regional bigotry in this country, just like everywhere else, and that the scousers get their fair share, but to defend racism is just plain wrong and shows what people really think when given the chance. The way that Liverpool FC have handled this could lead all sorts of issues which could push football in this country back decades and possibly (probably) lead to violence.

I know that we support our team, I personally love spurs more than I can really express in words, outside of my kids and family spurs is the love of my life, but when something is wrong, I can see it and say it. But these moronic and deluded Pool fans are really troubled and as I said above, I hope that they are jeered, and booed at every ground that they visit and also that the FA take serious action against them.

I find it extremely hypocritical by some of our fans accusing Liverpool fans of being racist and bigoted, who couldn't see the racist overtones in singing the Adebayor song, or happily accuse Wenger of being a pedophile in unison at the top of their voices or the homophobic Campbell stuff.

Some of those Liverpool fans are fucking disgraceful, but some of ours aren't much better.

Agree 100%, it could be something that spills over into general society too. I think the Uruguay embassy was very wise not to involve themselves. I am still very surprised how those in charge at Liverpool have behaved.

Agree but at least our manager and boardroom are not condoning racism like those at liverpool are doing.

I think you have a point but personally my problem is with Liverpool FC in the sense that supporting Suarez so strongly has led to these subsequent events and I believe far worse events to come.

There is no way that our club would support racist behaviour in any way shape or form imo.

Also, racism is natural, as people we are naturally judgemental based on appearance, it is how we are made up. I am of mixed Jamaican and English ancestry and I have racist THOUGHTS all of the time, I generalise all of the time. I hate everybody, Africans can't drive and commit fraud, the french are rude, the russians are ruder, Jamaicans are ignorant, Bermondsey people are little Englanders, Americans are warmongers who run around killing people at every possible opportunity, Jews are tight etc etc etc but I can promise you this, I never treat anybody according to their skin colour or religion. I love and hate everybody in equal measure. I am a teacher at a multi-cultural school in a deprived part of London and I teach hundreds of different children from all sorts of backgrounds, I would never dream of treating them differently because of their religion, race or background.
That is how I was raised, but what if my school defended a teacher that was racist, how many other teachers would then feel it was ok, how many of the kids would follow their lead? The rules of society and the perception of socially acceptable modes of behaviour help to control our more primal urges, violence, theft, ignorance, if they are removed chaos will reign and Liverpool have a social and moral responsibility to uphold decent values because they are so influential over so many people.

If people want to have racist opinions that is fine, it is a free country and only education will ever make a difference, the problem with this is that Liverpool FC have fanned the flames of racism in a very public fashion where their actions have a very real influence over hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people and I seriously believe that violence will occur as a direct result of it.

Name dropping, moi, never!

It was added for emphasis! He went through some serious shit mate. I saw him not that long ago at a family function and he was saying that his career could have been better (winning the FA cup and playing for England isn't bad) and I think he was alluding to how times have changed in football and also to his own struggles being a black player in the early 80s etc.

As I mentioned above, I went to the Nottingham derby with his younger brother (Dave) once and we were sat in the county end and the racial abuse thrown at Stan Collymore, who was playing Forest at the time, was unbelievable. Yet the same people who were hurling racist insults at him were turning to Dave and saying what a great bloke he was and how they wished he was still playing for them.

If racism isn't frowned upon by the powers that be, it will be rife at football grounds across the country once more.

For someone who adopted the role of cheer-leader, self styled spokesman and general agent provocteur over the Suarez incident, Dalglish has been strangely quiet on this issue.
