Rewatched he match and that diamond formation is an absolute shocker, Ndombele and Sisokko were receiving the ball so wide they were blocking off runs from Walker-Peters and Rose.

As soon as we moved to 4-2-3-1 you could see Ndombele getting his foot on the ball in the right areas. Pleased that Pochettino and the coaches saw the issues the formation was causing.

Sisokko playing out wide as part of the 3 looked clueless, however as soon as Winks went off and he moved to the middle his drive from midfield caused Villa problems.

And yet somebody on here stated quite catagorically the other day that Ndombele 'can't play in a pivot'.

On a side note, through the tv the atmosphere sounded incredible. Don’t know whether sky had high pitch-side levels on their mics but last season it still sounded a bit like Wembley, fans still in awe or getting used to their surroundings, but yesterday felt like white hart lane for the first time. Lots of singing and getting after the Villa players and encouragement for ours. Good stuff.

Can’t wait to visit for the first time against Newcastle

Will you be at that one because they just signed you for 40M quid?

not that simple IMO. Eriksen coming on coincided with Villa running out of gas. Not trying to belittle Eriksens' contribution but for me it was also perfectly timed.

Yes but did you see Eriksens passnings? Everytime he gets the ball the players around him run into spaces because they know he will deliver the ball. Absolutely indespecable for our game.

Yeah was both I reckon, Villa were tiring but Eriksen coming on gave us such a huge boost and in turn Villa buckled even more.

So from what i seen of Ndombele in his 1st game is that he is absolutely amazing at picking the right pass...

It did seem at times he was try too hard to get the ball and quickly turn a player and his touch looked a bit loose. Much better after he scored and he relaxed a bit.

Defence was fairly solid bar that long ball over the top for their goal.

Sissoko isn't really needed in games where there is a bus infront of him

We need to play

_______winks_____Ndombele____

Son/dele/lo celso/Eriksen/Lucas/lamela
...........any 3 from that 6

It was tough as Villa scored early and had a bank of 4 then a bank of 5.

3 points job done !!!!

Journalists are dicks though aren’t they? That one at the end trying to trip Poch up and make out Poch said Kane came back over weight when Poch said nothing of the sort. It was obviosu he was talking generally about footballers and being ready for preseason, not harry or probably anyone at spurs, just in football at large.
Agree. Nice that Jesus got to get a word in

Really can’t be fucked with it now. So many negative old ****s who slag players off constantly but don’t get behind the team.

The moaning poison we get in match day threads and in transfer forums is being translated into match day experience. Bitching moaning zero support. It’s depressing.

The more we improve the worse it gets, so much self entitlement, high expectations. I actually think that people use football as a way to vent their frustrations inside the stadium and on social media.

That used to be in the form of aggressive chanting and making a racket (and other things). Now it’s just “he’s a ****, he’s shit blah blah blah”.

I thought the atmosphere was poor for the whole of the first half and only got going in the second half.

It's boring as shit sometimes. The guy who sits 2 seats from me and is a legit **** genuinely said "Poch might as well fuck off after this game, no idea how to manage a game" about 30 seconds before he brought on Eriksen which changed the game.

The old ****s who moan at everything might want to take a minute to remember just how many first team players were missing today.
My 1st game at the stadium yesterday it took my breath away. On reflection I refuse to believe we are going to stand still now. I thank Mr Levy and Mr Lewis for what they have achieved , to think as a 4 yr old boy many years ago stood on the terrace that stadium then to now is to say an absolute dream has come true. And Mr Levy has spent 115 million this that has never before happened. I think I need to be patient Rome wasn’t built over night. Yesterday Poch admits he got it wrong first half, changed it 2nd half and we played very well KWP and Danny played well but Eriksen changed the game. We need to sort his contract out along with Toby if that happens with the players coming in we will have so much depth. Great 3 Pts Harry is up and running Ndembele is a beast come on you Spurs enjoy the ride girls and boys it going to be awesome .

I am not going to read through 100 pages, so sorry if that has already been discussed in depth but I was a bit disappointed that Troy Parrot wasn't on the bench , as our only true reserve striker, for a home game against lesser opposition whilst we had Wanyama, Dier and Skipp all defensive midfielders.
Good second half performance though, the team really stepped up, although still a big reliance on HK.

MOTD basically said without saying the exact words that the diamond was horseshit and as soon as we abandoned it, we played a lot better.
I just hope Poch sees it the same way, because it's certainly not the first time we've look hopeless with it, when will he for the most part abandon it?
It's not even going forward in which we look poor in it, but defensively we look vulnerable too. The flow of football in 4-2-3-1 is just miles better and our best player in Kane is much better in it too.
Not going to happen - in a recent interview Poch was asked 'What is your favourite Bond film?' Guess what the reply was?

Agree, Winks and Ndombele to start and the Sissoko on to likely replace Winks around the 65 mark. With his power and physicality in the middle coming on against a tired team he will be a rock there.

Excited to see Lo Celso link up with Ndombele/Eriksen etc with his quck passing and movement. Great to have so many options.

But to play 3 man CM we need to be way more compact like City/Liverpool, none of this diamond rubbish our CM is then way too wide in the full back position, a compact 3 of Ndombele/Winks/Lo Celso intrigues me too.

We looked so much better going to 4-2-3-1, it widened the pitch and created space in front of their goal. Eriksen kept finding space between their midfield and defence, and that’s where he’s best. If he stays, he shouldn’t need to drop as deep as he did last season.

There was just zero movement by the attackers. They were stationary most of the game and especially in the first half. When it’s like that, it’s always been a problem for us for years.

Absolute rubbish. Talk about passing the buck. There was not zero movement from the attackers, the back 4 and Winks were too busy playing triangles between themselves and Sissoko was out way too wide (covering for KWP) and Tanguy looked uncomfortable in role first half.
Funny how all of a sudden the attackers movements were absolutely fine when we took Winks off, maybe, just maybe it is because that was really when we started to think forward rather than sideways when we had the ball.
First half we had one shot on target to their 4.

Great start. It was excruciating to watch for a while, another "low block" working to a tee against us. But villa did well and I hope it's done us some good to have had a test compared to citys stroll at west ham it could stand to us next week.

Eriksen staying would be a boost. Winks staying fit would be good too. While sissoko is doing fine for us, I hope we can play with winks and ndombele sometimes without the sissoko security blanket. Especially against deep lying sides
