And yet not one player got their own back on Fleck?! These players are clever enough to foul someone that it will hurt (hurt is different than injure) oppo player but not be a red. Genuinely surprised none of them did. They are cute enough to do it without getting a red.

You've probably already been responded to but..

Although I agree with you about being smart enough to drop a sly dig on Fleck, it just can't be risked these days with the screaming that players do, which, in turn leads to VAR picking up on the incident & then the player gets sent off.

I called for Lamela to be brought on to go through Fleck, it would've been glorious.

But I'll guarantee, had one of our players done something sly to get Fleck back, but got caught out, people would be saying "what a stupid thing to do. You can't do that in the modern era of VAR".

This is what Bale was brought to the club for, it's criminal that Jose deemed him not good enough , why? Because he doesn't track back , how the fuck was this allowed to happen.

Jose is a little man who believes he can be biggest at the club. Jose has lost the plot.

Lost it at Chelsea where I believe he had some sort of a breakdown. However he will soon be in another very highly paid job despite his tactics etc being out of date.

Not the way to respond. You get away with nothing in this day and age (and I fully understand the irony that Fleck got away with one today). Our players remained professional instead.

we'd all be spitting feathers if PEH got a red after some sort of retribution, and he was ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Sorry if already posted.

Do you reckon our Welsh wizard was doing a bit of trolling towards the old gaffer yesterday. First saying in the post match interview, "just playing the way the fans want us to play", followed by this.....

My final conclusion with Jose is that he is unprofessional and becomes jealous of some players as Bale , because his own football career was nothing in comparison and he resents Bales presences at the club as Jose wants to be centre of the clubs universe but Bale was a threat to that as we saw yesterday.
Agree, not sure about his football career bit but always thought his ego wouldn't allow it and also the more the media asked him about it the more he enjoyed being Billy opposite, chucking him on for the last 5 minutes against Marine when he needed minutes was a joke, the media read it as a nice gesture to Marine but I never bought that.

Looking ahead, do we know whether Phillips and Raphina are going to be out for Leeds at the weekend? Two huge players for them, but I'm surprised about how little I can find online in regards to when they'll return.

I can see your point re not getting away with much because VAR is around but they should be cute enough to leave the foot in and at most risk a yellow.

Anyway, thats enough on that shit.

I'm just glad I've woken up on a Monday morning after seeing us play some good football and trying to build on a lead. I know it's only against Sheffield United but helps to lift the bad mood around the club even if it's just a little bit

Would've been funnier and more of a message to Jose if he was just holding up his middle finger.

The Fleck incident was odd. As one angle suggested it looked accidental. A different angle suggested he looked down, could see the player, and still his foot came down on the player's head. Doesn't definitively mean it was intentional. But it would suggest that he could have avoided it, but didn't.

Surprising they were so quick to just dismiss it. Didn't even have the ref take a look.

My take is that Fleck did look down. Did see the player. But didn't intend to stamp on his face out of malice. But also, didn't make an attempt to watch where his foot landed, so as to avoid hitting the player. Sorry... I know that sounds a bit wishy-washy. Just trying to play devil's advocate and understand why it took them less than 30 secs to decide it wasn't worth looking into any further. Very weird one.

Definitely intentional. For one, Fleck looks down, and then brings his foot down unnaturally early considering he has effectively hurdled Lo Celso.
The natural landing would be feet further forward and away from Lo Celso, but he straightens right leg earlier than you would expect

BTW - for those on SC that are more tactically astute at understanding how the team was lining up....

Were we playing a 433 for most of the game? And then when Dele came off, switched to a 4231? Or, was it always the latter?

Just curious. As when Dele went off, you could clearly see the 4231 formation. And we also completely lost some control in midfield during that time. Albeit, a period where we were already 4-0 up, and the other team were trying to nab a consolation goal.

Graphic before the game showed 4141, but I think Son and Bale sat higher, Lo Celso and to a lesser extent Alli did seem to sit a little deeper, Lo Celso closer to Hojbjerg and Dele slightly more advanced but with license to get forward. Not quite 433 but not quite 4231.

Two stats from the match:

We are fourth top scorers in the Premier League which surprised me. Man City have 71 goals, Man Utd 64, Leicester 61 and we have 60. Five more than Liverpool and seven more than Chelsea and West Ham.

Also heard a stat in commentary that we have scored in each of our last 11 PL matches which is better than anyone else in the division so I checked it and it's true! The last team we failed to score against was Man City in the 0-3 reverse at The Etihad on 13th Feb. Now if only we could keep regular clean sheets we would have had a load more points from those 11 games!

Define highly paid. A few million is the going rate these days , even for soneome like him who is not able go coach players the fool. Im so angry with him and glad hes gone.He will get a top job abroad but not a top club. More Turkey/Greece or even A low level internation team .That's his current level.

Most likely another 6/8 points. Some of those thrown away by sitting too deep would of been killed off with another goal. Although we did miss some big chances in those games. Eg. Palace away, Fulham at home, wolves away just off the top of my head. There’s countless others. So frustrating when you look back on it. Basically a wasted season.

Liverpool.....

Regarding the stamp on LoCelso. Definitely 100% intentional. Anyone who has played football at any level and ever had to hurdle someone would know that.
Dirty shit. Get back to the Championship where you belong. Fkin thug.
