The referee was an absolute disgrace tonight. Dont know if he was under instruction by UEFA and Platini (as we all know how much he hates English football and the premiership!) to do his upmost not to let us progress as we were fielding a weakend team. We should have had 2 penalties maybe 3!

On the plus side I thought we played really well from 30 minutes onwards, Obika looks a very good prospect and thought Gio and Gilberto and Campbell had best games in our shirts. Shame we are out but now does just leave us league to concentrate on after Sunday which at end of the day far more important than the Uefa!

I can tell you thats a myth. Platini just belives in the romantics of football and thefore sometimes favours the underdogs. But you can not say that. i am 90% certain that platini has nothing against english football per sei. But he is certainly against the domenent frces of football (i.e. the top 4, madrid ect)

Would have made quite a story if the kids had pulled it out! What did people think of Hudd in central defence? Also, how was Bale? It seemed this game was also about letting some players gain some confidence by playing a full 90. Guys like Hudd, Bale, Gio and Obika.

He always seems to have ago at English football when ever there is chance to. Look at the whole Kaka deal yes it was a complete joke and Im glad it didn't come off but he went off on one about it. But in summer when Ronaldo was trying to go to Real Madrid for similar sorts of Money he was only to happy to say how happy he was for deal to go through etc! I hope some of his ideas do come to fruition and he does help break up the big 4 and these teams like Man city who have rich owners can go and out bid anyone and buy anyone they like. As can be dangerous for whole of football! But still think he does have some problems with English football but anyway thats completely off the subject from tonight's game!

Thing is, had we been awarded that clearest of penalties early on, it would have made things much easier for us (if scored of course) and we would have spread our steam better over the 90 minutes. There was a second clear penalty incident on Campbell in the second half as well ! I am not trying to take any merit away from Shaktar here, they won the tie fairly over the two legs. However, I am saying this because the referee was Italian and he is renowned as one of the most showy/bully type of referee who trives in awarding 'cheap' Pens., in the Italian Seria A, just for the sake of being the centre of attraction ! But...........he chickend out this time !

Still, I have to applaud the lads for giving a decent go at it. Well Done.

For the first time in quite a while I am actually happy with the way that we played!

We played with tempo, we fought for the ball and woorked really hard to close down a very, very good passing team! Obika looked good, if a little bit too slow footed for the prem but we'll see, held the ball up well. Gunter, Hudd (who I thought was fantastic) and chimbo were very good. Gomes was back to the confident goalie of the last few months. Gilberto was brilliant, is it his twin brother finally arrived to take his rightful place in the squad?

GDS scored a great goal, was a bit quiet at times but got stuck in and used the ball well. Even bloody Bale was good. O'hara was also excellent and showed that he can be a valuable player.

Shakhtar are a very good team who pass the ball and move as well as any team in the prem but I bet if we bought their team they'd be shit!

We actually could have won that game with a better ref and if we had our full team out we would have progressed!

All in all a decent performance and hopefully the first team will have seen the effort and desire of the younger players and show a bit of the same on Sunday and beyond. A few of those players are knocking on the first team door and hr should have no worries about bringing them in!

Obika looked useful, faded a lot towards the end but had a few chances and did more than I have seen Darren Bent do in a single match. Once he has scored a goal he will probably relax and score a few more, definite potential there. Before anyone points it out, I realise Bent has scored goals and Obika has none so far, I am talking in terms of all round play and general threat. Anyway that's a whole different discussion.

I was surprised Redknapp brought on Parrett before Bostock, whilst Parrett did nothing wrong, he seems a lot less adventurous than Bostock and given that we needed a goal it was a strange decision.

Elsewhere Hudd looked very good but I was disappointed resorted to long balls by the end when our 2 strikers offer little in aerial or hold up play. Also though Campbell overall was poor, despite working hard I never thought he looked likely to score. I was hoping after the Pen when he looked to be injured that Mason would be brought on.

Gio played well but like Obika faded a lot late on, ran his socks off though and must have impressed Redknapp, Gunter looked better than recent displays and Bale had a few bright moments but nothing spectacular.

Strangely I wasn't too bothered about us fielding a weakened team for this game compared to the FA Cup, as I agreed with Harry that it is ludicrous to stage a show piece game during a week of European football.

Pleased to see so many Academy prospects involved. I hope some of them show the right desire and work ethic and break on through next season. It will certainly save us sploshing £15 million pounds on mediocre players.

Shame but we just didn't have enough in the end although we did have a banker pen not given. Lost it in the 1st leg really in those mad few minutes but generally played well tonight and gave it a real go.

Obika was a plus, looks raw but decent and will only improve - could certainly see him in and around the 1st team squad in a year or two. Gilberto played well too definitely his best game for Spurs and linked well with Bale and O'Hara (who was excellent). Palacios was his usual tough tackling self but thought his ball retention was poor 2nd half. Gio did well and took his goal brilliantly but was out of the game for long periods. Campbell was busy as usual but maybe lacks that extra bit of class and Gomes and the back 4 had a decent game....

What are the odds that it will happen though, I think that there are a lot of players coming through that are more than capable of filling roles in our squad over the coming years, but you can guarantee a load of signings will be made that will probably hinder their progression.

This is probably what Ramos wanted to do, have a small squad of first teamers with a talented youth squad as backup and likely to get plenty of opportunities, unfortunately he and the first team fucked up royally at the start of the season and we never got chance to see it come to fruition

the guys who played gave it a go which is admirable and they deserve a degree of praise ......... unlike HR who cost us the tie against a very beatable team - out of Europe when we shouldnt be due to a Manager who is too small minded to be in charge of this club

I would think very little, probably would only happen on a larger scale if we got relegated.

On a side note Jol's hamburg are comfortably through.

Bostock did fuck all by the way, not a criticism, just he had only 10/15 minutes and was hardly involved. Those waiting to see him will need to be a bit more patient (or go watch the youth team)....

I doubt our full team would have performed any better, they have hardly been pulling up trees in the Uefa Cup so far, without Keane, Defoe, Pav or Corluka available I really doubt we would have been able to Challenge for the Cup even if we progressed tonight.

In all honesty I was pleased to be able to see the likes of Bale, Gunter, Gio, Hudd and Obika all get 90 minutes, Bostock and Parrett got a run out to give us a glimpse of what they can do too. The only 2 players who would have made a big difference are Lennon and Modric, but it was sensible not to risk them so close to the final as they will be our main hope of getting something against United.

Chat shit mate

His selection last week was right, kept the players fresh and got us an away win...yes AWAY WIN, we dont hear them words often! and are 5pts clear from the bottom! You want us to win the cup and get relegated? This is why your not the manager!

The away game v shakhter, you cant say we didnt deserve a draw, they were no better than us and 0-0 was the fair result, like said a mad few minutes cost us, in particular a goalkeeping howler...how is that Harry's fault?

Today he played the right team again because look at our cup tied list! What is the point of us continuing the uefa cup? ALso was a great chance for the youngsters and fringe players and they were all pretty damn good if you ask me. One of the poorer players was Fraizer Campbell and compared against our academy players, I think we have a few prospects maybe.

If we lift that cup on sunday...you'll change your tune

I have to say how proud I was of our lads tonight. We didn't play like a team of youngsters thrown together. They passed the ball well, had some good chances and Gio took his goal well. We should have had at least one penalty out of the three times Campbell was brought down in the box. I thought O'Hara worked his socks off, and once he came off we weren't such a good side. Shame they couldn't have beaten Shakhtar. They deserved another run out!
Bostock learnt a lesson tonight, as it was his mistake that led to their goal.
Obika looked a good prospect too. I'd rather have him on the bench for games than Campbell!
Gomes looked relaxed and happy. A good omen for Sunday!
The crowd were magnificent too. Terrific applause at the end.

Oh and my son said he saw Royer Lloyd Pack (Trigger from Only fools and horses) at the game!
