i hope this performance from Gill will make us think again about getting Traore.
I hope not! Gill was brilliant, but Traore offers a very different dynamic with his ultra-directness and the attention he commands.

The game really made me think about the Romero signing too. Very interesting to see him get so far forward - almost tapping in a goal from open play at one point! Reminds me a little of Jan's first season - but then we coached that out of him and maybe with good reason. I fear it just might be slightly too aggressive for Premier League football and could see us punished, but hopefully he has the very high level of footballing intelligence required to know when to go for it as a calculated risk and when to stay pinned back. (I also hope he got his Serie A Defender of the Year award on the basis of, well, defending rather than for being an unusually aggressive CB going forwards!). Very good performance though regardless from him.

As it turns out, Winks had an absolutely fantastic game and ran the midfield. But even if he hadn't, he really doesn't deserve this at all. He's a Spurs lad through and through, he's never given anything less than 100% to the club, and he's been fighting for his place with us constantly no matter the adversity. No, he's not Pirlo, but he's done everything we could have asked of him. As fans we quite rightly demand loyalty from our players, but it's probably unsurprising that they so often don't have any when the fans now have zero loyalty to the players. They all know they're only a bad run of form away from getting dogs abuse, and that if the roles were reversed they'd be out in a flash with no hint of 'loyalty' shown at all. Full credit to Winks for maintaining complete dedication and motivation regardless.

Fingers crossed people stop writing off our own team, remember that we're meant to be supporters, and that Winks does just as well the next time he's selected.
Can you not take a joke? i was only joking hence the laughing face, some people take everything so serious. I respect your opinion but i diagree i think he had a steady game with one good moment. Unfortunately though his not good enough if we want to be top 4. But it's a game of opinions mate?

Apologies if it was just a joke - I struggle to pick up on them sometimes, especially from that second post of yours! He's probably not good enough to start for a UCL club I agree, but he's a nice squad option to have as a homegrown player. Moreover I just don't think him and others going through bad spells of form deserve the utterly nasty way our fanbase in general tends to treat them really!

No problem mate,
I agree players don't deserve the hate they get but it happens at every club sadly. I do think a lot is just having harmless fun. Unfortunately he has declined due to many reasons but i never thought he would be good enough for us to challenge. Sad really though coz his a local lad and loves the club.

Would love to winner this multiple times.

But I can't see that happening any time soon though with some people on here. They love to throw abuse towards the same names day in and day out. They won't get behind the lads regardless. They'll see X and Y are starting and immediately it's all doom and gloom.

I guess I look at Sir Alex's United teams. Plenty of players in there who definitely weren't world class, but gave everything, knew the stakes, and were more than the sum of their parts. John O'Shea, Park Ji-Sung, Darren Fletcher, Wes Brown, Ben Foster, Louis Saha. I don't think Winks will ever be good enough to start for us if we're to challenge for major honours again. But he's sure as hell got the quality and character to play one of those roles, which is honestly at least as important as having a collection of primadonna galacticos.

Very good point i agree. Only is our staeting 11 isn't strong enough and depth of squad isn't good enough and Winks plays too many games that sadly i rather he didn't coz i think we can't find his niche and ww don't have Roy Keanes, Vieras etc to help him if he played.

so he had a one decent game in the last two years against some poor Portuguese side, the equivalent of a championship side. The guy is a snake and is not good enough for Spurs and never will be. Out of ten passes I watched him make one went forward.

Time to quit the hate and get behind him, he's a Spurs player who by all accounts Nuno is happy to keep around, can't be much of a snake if that's the case. If people are ready to welcome Kane back into the team after we know what he did then they should show the same energy for Winks.

Honestly the faux outrage over Winks based on some unconfirmed rumours is absolute cringe, people make him out to be the devil reincarnate and the worst player to play for the club, I mean listen to yourself saying only 1 pass went forward - that's bollocks and you know it.

The confirmation bias when it comes to certain players just needs to stop.

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:Kane is world class and any team would be lucky to have him, I don’t blame him for wanting to leave. Winks is championship/league 1 class. 1 good game in three years. It’s widely known he ratted out Jose to the press. I couldn’t care less if he’s a spurs lad he’s the same bracket as bentaleb, Mason and Ohara and look at.

My impression is that he didn’t start his forays upfield until it had become clear that we had a grip on midfield. There was good cover against a struggling opposition. I don’t recall him rambling into the final third during the first half hour. That might be evidence of alert judgment on Romero’s part.

Consider: just as Winks was finally putting some distance between himself and a very bad injury that still causes him to play through pain, his longstanding coach was replaced with someone who, according to Winks and the evidence of our eyes, did not get him fully fit - nor the rest of the squad.

In that context, it’s no surprise his form declined. Let’s see how he does with a proper fitness regimen.

When he was 21, Winks had an unusually precise range of passing. He lost that when he got injured and lost fitness. Let’s see if it returns.

A snake?! What on earth has he done to deserve that other than not be the world-class midfielder we've dreamed of having? He's done nothing remotely snakeish at all.

One or two of our ITKs indicated that he had been disruptive or cliquish or both in the squad and wanted to see the back of him this summer.

You're wasting your time mate. Many fans seem to make up their minds about a person based on spurious gossip. There's 0 actual evidence. Aside from a small clip of Lloris mentioning something was up. That's most likely any number of internal issues with squad members.

Indeed, the only evidence there is, is winks putting in effort to claim a first team spot. Poor lad was made a pantomine villain......

It's certainly widely rumoured. Which is different to it being 'widely known'.

Your other point about Winks nit passing forwards would be in line with the role he was given. If you actually listen to his somewhat intelligent post match interview, he explains he was there to make sure that he didn't give the ball away and spurs maintained possession. You don't do that by making risky forward passes. That was for others.

Of course, he can improve. But this general witch hunt and labelling is, in my humble.opinion, unwarranted. But you are of course, perfectly entitled to believe what you wish to.

But back on topic, he played very well against a side that finished 5th (I think) in the Portuguese league. They were a physical and fit side, it wasn't by any means easy. Credit where it is due, he played really well, in my opinion.

So a player is allowed to disrespect the club and the fans because they happen to be good at kicking a football?

And you choose to believe some rumours about another player just because you don't rate him?

This is a massive logical fail you know thar right? I mean even if these said rumours are true then maybe you should draw a line in the sand and move on..
