Happy for kane to get his hat trick but that's the only positive I took.

They were awful. I honestly think a league two team would have turned them over and yet we still made hard work of it to the point we had to bring on attacking reinforcements.

You can't really read anything into it. We didn't have to really defend so by and large it was a training ground exercise.

Villa is the big game. Let's see where we're at then.
TBH I think the first squad should play all the minutes they can in competitive/semi-competitive matches until they learn how Nuno wants them to play (if there is an ulterior plan at all).

I’m not sure that’s fair.
For sure he offers nothing going forward, no crossing no push and run and no goal threat at the back post.
but last night against weak opposition he was solid in defence and didn’t really make a mistake 1v1.
Mura played with wingbacks so always had an outlet ball to a player in acres of space. But they never did anything with it- particularly the lwb.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty to criticise Doherty for but last night wasn’t it. He gave a solid backup Rb performance.

Nah not having that.

He was gash, end of!

If "solid in defence" means bundling into the winger & giving away dumb free kicks, then yeah, MOTM.

That’s fine if you want to be agenda driven rather than watching the game.
I dont know why you have to go over the top and call him motm - I’m not saying that and neither is anyone else

No need to act like a ****

Where the heck is Markanday?

Its a joke he is not at least on the bench here.

Could be that he played on Monday and want to rest him. He will surely get some time in this tournament depending on how things turns out.

Bit of a sore head this morning, but last night was the sort of evening match I really enjoy.

I remember going to all the cup matches in Poch's first season, and seeing how his team evolved. Fringe players being given their chance (Kane, Mason, Rose), first teamers who were coasting being found out (Paulinho, Adebayor), and getting to see teams that you would otherwise never have even heard of.

That's where football gets fascinating for me. Not just when we're beating everyone, but also when we suck and back at the beginning of something.

Until next time...

Not really sure about that. When if not in these games? There are 12 substitutes on the bench and we rather take four CBs than a young forward who impresses all season at U23 level. No need to play him 90 minutes, but send him on the pitch with Kane and Son for half an hour and see if he can step up.
Later in the competition they say no time for experiments as we need to secure the top spot bla bla.

Not if the analysis re his contract is correct. From the youth thread it looks like he is running down his contact and is offski, because we won't give him a decent one and proper chances in the first team

I enjoyed it. First 10 mins of the 2nd half aside, we were in complete control all game. I felt a bit sorry for Scarlett coming off as he wasn't getting the service Kane did. Yes poor opposition but so were Grimsby when they beat us 2-0. The much lauded Leicester lost to a poor team.

If football always went as it 'should', there would be no point in watching.

I'd like to think that, in all the years you've seen me posting on this site, you'd know agendas is simply not my thing.

I simply say what I see.

I also tend to not label fellow SC members, or tell tell how to conduct themselves. But you do you. ?‍♂️

My initial post about Doherty was hardly defending him, as you know.
He didn’t make any howlers or cost us a goal though, no better than the rest and no worse. That’s my opinion- and by all means disagree with it.

I’d also hoped that you might see the nuance in my last comment. After all, it is your welcoming gift to all new comers to the site.
But I guess if you have to explain the joke it wasn’t a very good one.

Or, and hear me out here. I'm just a complete **** and anyone with even the slightest hint of common sense pays no attention to a single thing I say. :woot:

I don't know exactly what's gone on re Markanday. If you read the relevant thread, you can draw your own conclusions
My conclusion is that once again the club has been incompetent and is adding to our clown show reputation
Not playing Markanday is a disgrace, losing him for free will be a disgrace

I bet our attacking stats look better after this game - especially if we score another.

Breaking down the Skipp+Hojbjerg axis for Arsenal away will go down as an all-time madness by Nuno.
