Trouble still is, there is nobody skillful to get the ball to them.
Five defenders and Three CMs (Bentancour is class though)

Then on the bench we have a whole suite of defensive options.

Gil and Moura the only options today. Better than it has been!
Gil trusted less than Doherty and Davies

we have definitely got found out on the defend, defend, defend and hope Kane and Son can go play on their own.
Great Post. If only our more skillful players were trusted and we didn't have to stand by the damned 'system'

In the second half of last season the players executed the game plan pretty well, this season the performances have worsened and the intensity has gone.

Teams have figured out to play against Conte but he's being stubborn.

Surely at some point he has to realise that he too has to adapt, especially when the only real outlet we have is unavailable.

Conte is getting in the way because of how he's setting the team up.

This game started well but Lloris doesn't apply common sense and then the pressure of the moment spreads to the others and now they can't complete simples tasks.

This club has to learn how to deal with pressure, it doesn't matter who the head coach is or who is on the pitch, in key moments they tend to fall apart.

Exactly this. Last season he came in half way through, took a few months for the ideas to get across to the players and it worked. Give it a summer of teams able to look into how we play and it’s easy to negate. We are poor, make no mistake about it. We have been bad ALL season, apart from Fulham when have we actually looked like the better team in a game.

The defence has gone to shit and that was the only plus point. I just don’t see how it changes with the players we have either. They aren’t good enough and if Contes tactics are out dated, we are in big trouble

Where's the fight from the players?! Meekly succumbing to man u and Newcastle in space of 4 days is so worrying. Thought we had a manager that wouldn't accept this but here we are yet again rolling over and getting our tummies tickled.

When Eddie Howe has been suggested, in the past, as a potential Tottenham manager it was laughed at. He’s proving his doubter wrong . He’s been very impressive in how he’s transformed Newcastle and it’s not down to money either.
I have to agree. And his players are strong and muscular, playing exactly the way they look. I thought we are going to that route as well with the tall players we have, but apparently we are soft as jellies.

Waiting for Conte to blame lack of money spent in the transfer market and Newcastle having a manager who has a a team of world class players to choose from. He has only bare bones so needs to play himself.

Who knows, we may not have a manager who accepts this for much longer. Just saying...

My optimism for this season is pretty low right now. Think we’ll finish 6th and we’ll need players like Spence and Udogie to make a difference next season or we’ll be lacking at wingback again without heavy investment. We’re also poor at the back against any real quality and need a creative midfielder badly. People jizzed over this summer’s window far too much, we strengthened the midfield depth with a good player in Bissouma and added a different style of player for LCB but other than that our starting 11 is no better at all and our rivals strengthened theirs significantly

Said the players aren’t good enough since poch.
That's an important thing to state.
Those players suited Poch's style. Young, energetic and some quality in there.

Conte has a mish mash. Some players can play his system. Others do not have the technical ability. When you play a system that looks to win the ball deeper and attack with verve and quickness, it relies on players who can take limited touches and move the ball precisely. Also relies on clever movement.

Look at some of the players we have.

Dier, Emerson, Hojbjerg, Doherty, Sess, Davies, Lloris, Lucas (with the ball).

They all have limitations with the ba and you wouldn't back them when pressed.

Even Son is largely shit with the ball in static situations.

At Inter, Conte had Barella, Skriniar, De Vrij, Brozovic, Eriksen, Kolorov, Hakimi and Handanovic

Chelsea he had Fabregas, Kante, Matic, Luiz, Alonso, Azpilicueta, Willian, Hazard and Courtois

These players are all significantly better technically then all of ours apart from Kane, Bentancur, Romero, Bissouma and Perisic.

Even Latauro Martinez is much more resilient with the ball than Sonny.

I was for Howe and Potter. Look at all the big manager appointments we made since PL began. All failed. All similar style - Graham, AVB, Ramos, Jose and Conte (not in the failure bracket but fully with the style). These managers don't work for us.

Our best who got us on the right trajectory during their spells - Jol, Redknapp and Poch. Small club managers that get their players to step up.

Why does Sarr not get a look in or Giil ? To my knowledge I thought they were slightly creative. as we seem to lack any creativity whatsoever without Kulu,

I think the thinking was to get some sort of foundation going and plug a few holes.

The areas we really needed improving were certainly the more challenging.

For sure we wanted a new RWB but there's little on the market other than ones out of reach (Hakimi).

I do believe Conte would have had Osimhen or Lautaro if he could, but again you're looking at 80m plus.

Then CB, its pretty clear we targetted some but again got priced out of it so thought we could get by until then. To be fair Lenglet hasn't put a foot wrong.

Bissouma will come good but we didnt get the Barella role type.

I think Conte will know now exactly what needs doing as that run at the end of the season masked some deficiencies.

Remember @Trix
said that Conte was not so desperate to replace some as they'd impressed him? Well that should be the final nail for them, they did it when they knew the season was ending and needed to impress for their future but have gone back into their standard form. That was Conte's mistake, trusting them.

We need 2 windows

I very rarely post. Very rarely. But I want to after the past week. I love spurs as much as every single person on here, great club, great fans and that will never cease to be the case.

All of us turn up to each game with the hope of us putting in a great performance and we all get a hit of euphoria from that. Some view that purely as winning, others view that as going toe to toe with the opposition, playing attractive football and doing things we could only think of doing with a football.

Winning when playing boring, defensive football papers over the cracks those of us that live for entertaining, flowing football observe. Which is fine, for a time.

I, like most on here, have stresses both at work and in life more generally that i would love to see abated by the joy of watching my football team entertain and excite me. Winning is evidently preferable but even in defeat, a spirited performance with players who wear their heart on their sleeve does enough for me.

I am sad to say that these past two years have given me no joy. People say the game is about glory. Well, I disagree. My week is not not made by bragging to people about my club being the best, it’s not made by laughing at rival fans because their team were humiliated by whoever. My week is made ostensibly better by being entertained and excited by the football team that I love. If we win, even better, it we lose, well at least I have been entertained and have experienced some semblance of positive emotions.

Right now. There is none. I don’t feel that sense of unadulterated joy when we win. I don’t feel the ‘we gave it all we could’ spirit in defeat. I feel entirely empty. There is no joy to our play, there is no excitement that builds in our upcoming fixtures.

Everyone is different and that is what makes everything special - but I felt implored to write my thoughts. I’m bored. I’m really bored of our team and my life does not entirely revolve around football. I watch football to escape and to get enjoyment. I get neither of those things from this team at all.

Its hard when 3/4 first team choices are out and not even on the bench.
It is imposiible when we gift two goals.
We never get ripped apart (except against United )in every game we have lost we give away goals by making terrible defensive errors .
Need to upgrade so many players but must start with Dier Sessignon and Royal who should never play for us again. Howevert their rplacements Sanchez Doherty and unfortunately Perisic are not up to it either.
Hopfully Spence will stepup and Udogie looks promising but not until next season.
Top four will be a miracle

Only 2 players who can pass the ball Bentacur and Kane.
You're not far off.

To be fair you dont need 11 technical passers, it certainly helps.

But Bissoumas ability to glide through the press is another good asset.

Yet, as you state, that number is too low. In Conte's system you need 2 CBs who have very good technical ability, I think Romero and Lenglet are but thats it.

Lloris is a problem in this respect.

ALL of our wing backs are poor or average, although in Conte's system its okay if one is powerful and can be effective in attack. Sadly, they aren't.

Hojbjerg is a good squad player but again he's limited on the ball compared to what Conte has had before.

Even Sonny is weak in this area and Richarlison is more of a flick on type.

Kulusevski is gravy though.

Bentancur is a classy footballer unfortunately it was in vain today. Said after the Utd debacle then this was pivotal. The barcodes are on the up, played a blinding 1st half and have to say what a unit they are Joe Linton typified their fight today. This from someone who was laughable when up front what a turnaround as midfielder. They remind me of where City were when they just started to be bankrolled definitely an emerging force.

As for us the torrential rain seemed to align with our direction lately just down and lethargic. Was reading in the week that Conte wanted us to learn the dark arts e.g time wasting, acting injury etc to buy time. Well the barcodes must have read the same piece because they played this to the letter.

Not to take advantage of results around us could hurt hard now. I'm optimistic the match on Wednesday could be a springboard in the CL because upsetting consecutive defeats can only mean Conte will be desperate to win and stop this leak becoming a flood. COYS!
