From a sporting contest, City were the better side tonight. The stats tell you the same story as well. 1 shot at goal I believe from us.

They pressed the hell out of us and made us chase them the whole game.

Yep, without Bissouma and/or Sarr in midfield we lack aggression, strength, energy and athleticism.

Hojbjerg had a decent game with the exception of the almost fatal mistake at the end but on the other hand we couldn’t get the ball off City and we had zero control in central midfield. Bissouma and Sarr would have been harassing the City players all game.
Missed the quick feet and athleticism in the middle third. Really felt like we were very one paced and struggled to get up the pitch as a team tonight. Lot of negative first touches and a lack of pace. Didn’t expect to win but thought we’d see us give it a good go and have them on the ropes for spells. Disappointing performance

Sorry do I have to like them I must have missed that rule

Sorry pal, I never give you out neg ratings unless by mistake.

I am pretty high on painkillers most of the time and a tad myopic because of the same reason. I try my best -I let myself down sometimes. I think I am getting close to vanishing point where I can’t post any more

Whatever-ish

Kulu experiment as no8 failed today. Kulu as 8 can work aganst lesser quality teams. Today, he so bad on the ball. We cannot afford a bad passing no8 in our system
Today he was. We’ve seen Deki have these performances on the right too when he isn’t on it. Don’t think he’ll play too much in the role now anyway.

Think we missed Bissouma who is super comfortable holding onto the ball in midfield when being pressed by a team like City. Sarr too for breaking shit up.

Our insistence on passing out from the back is annoying at times.

Have to say I'm 100% on board with this, as can definitely see progression. It's the managers style and when we get it right its pure quality, will only improve.

I don't think many other teams in the world would play us off the park with our strongest 11 at the moment, and I think we saw City close to their best just now.
A couple of squad additions in defence and midfield and some surgery needed in attack, scouting wise that might be a wakeup call for how we approach the summer and the profile of forward we need, you can't just rely on system cogs you need a bit of stardust, some unpredictability.

Far too passive tonight , we were mainly chasing shadows , so much room for Werner and Johnson to run into and we never played the ball early enough . Bentancur and kulu were so poor in midfield and for all the running around Richi does he never once had a goal scoring opportunity . Shame cos on paper I thought we were going to give them a really good game but we just looked like we were waiting for them to score .

City bossed a lot of the game but thought we defended well. Our commitment to make a block is top class. I thought we deserved a clean sheet tonight. However didn't create nearly enough for a home game. We missed Son and Maddison with at least one of Sarr or Bissouma. Those are players who we just can't live without against City. Then in those situations you miss Kane as well because if you can't control the game you need a forward who the ball sticks too (Richarlison did his job well don't get me wrong).

Personally think it's a foul for the goal. It always has been that's the most frustrating thing. All of a sudden they're allowing them. You can't just change the rule mid season and not announce it either. No attempt for the ball and a little back in is all it takes to impede the keeper. Sure it's a soft foul but always has been given until recently. If you know the refs are going to allow it more then you change your tactics to protect the keeper with someone.

I don't think there's enough in it to give a foul. The fault was in allowing Diaz to impede Vicario. Somebody should have muscled him out of there.

We looked off our usual pace but think that was down to how good city were. Will be concerned if we are like that against brentford though

@fishhhandaricecake you might disagree with this but I have watched a lot of Nusa and whilst he is a big prospect he is still VERY raw. I’m very curious as to what you disagree with?
Well for a start he is a totally different person/human/physical being so purely on that basis alone by having an entirely different human person in place of another would change something 😉😊

100%. The hyperbole on here by some is ridiculous. The idea that we were going to pump City 4 nil just because they have narrowly lost to us at the stadium several times is risible. Look at their bench when Grealish and Doku can came on ....FFS.

Ange has worked miracles given what he has had to deal with and frankly as soon as I saw the FA Cup draw I was convinced we were going out - even with players coming back - because of Son and Sarr and Bissouma being unavailable. Awful draw so early on. That's not being defeatist at all, just that we are some way off City and they won the bloody Treble last season.

We go again.
@SargeantMeatCurtains how exactly is my post "off topic" ?? Yawn. your negativity on here is draining yet again. Look up the definition of football "supporter" and maybe start supporting?

Against the top teams our midfield currently isn't good enough.

Do we win tonight with Sarr or Biss? Maybe.

But either way I don't think a top club should be going in to games like this with the likes of PEH in the starting XI.

That sounds harsh on him and he tries hard and wasn't solely to blame at all today. But he isn't good enough and we need midfielders who can pass the ball.

Making my way back from the game: felt Micky VDV had another solid performance. From where I was in the south stand City pressed us continuously and we couldn’t get out as a collective unit. It was all a bit hesitant and slow playing out from the back.

As soon as Doku and KDB came could see it coming. As others had said gutted about another Cup exit and the wait continues etc. Still, month 5 into Ange’s reign and lots to look forward to in the long run. Concentrating on the league with a fully fit Madders, Son, Sarr and Biss to come back as well I’m optimistic for a good run in regarding our league position. COYS!

Silva committed four or five fouls in the first half alone. After a few, he fouled one of ours by pulling him back cynically after he'd gone past him. The ref then called him and Walker over and gave a "final warning" for his first yellow card if he did it again.

Should have been a straight yellow, I have no idea why he's allowed several chances and even then given a warning.

Just flagrant misapplication of the rules simple because it's City. He should have been off the pitch by then, not allowed to commit several yellow fouls.

Literally not a soul on this forum has said or intimated we’d “pump city 4-0” and you have the temerity to accuse others of hyperbole?

Calling me negative is tiresome. If you go through my posts, I’m incredibly positive about Ange and what he’s doing at the club. We look like we finally have our shit together. That’s not to say I won’t call out bad performances when they come and tonight one came. Questioning my support for this club just because I’m vocally unhappy about the performance tonight is petulant and childish. Do better.

The attaching issue very much came from the centre of the pitch. We just couldn’t control the game for more than the odd 5 mins here and there.

I am a huge fan of Nusa and 100% want us to sign him as I think he has the potential to be world class. But he is still monumentally raw and can be physically week. The issue tonight wasn’t our wingers, we didn’t give them enough chances to be the problem in the first place.

Nusa is a raw 18 year old with a tone of potential but still has a lot of growing to do. If we are at a point where we need a 18 year old who can be bullied off the ball quite easily to make the difference in a match like this then I’m concerned about the rest of our team.

Yeah, fully agree mate. Didn't feel like we had a real grip on the game throughout and that our moment's came in a few little flurries. I thought we looked way more composed in parts of the game at the Etihad than we did tonight.

I do think it's important to not expect so much from Nusa so early on. Hopefully he can come in and complement what is already a smooth-running machine, as opposed to expecting him to be some sort of immediate difference maker.
