Didn’t watch the game. Anyone know where I can see Reguillon’s non pass to Emerson in the first half?

Watching the 2nd goal back, it’s clear this is a routine that’s been worked on in training over the international break, as opposed to our usual tactic of twat it at the wall and hope for the best.

Reguilon starts the move on the edge of the box, just ahead of Dier taking the FK, before sprinting round the side of the wall and into the perfect position to tap in a loose ball.

This is actually very important to point out.

I feel like a lot of set piece play, throw ins, etc have been half arsed over the ladt few years and that teams often do us on them but we don't do the same.

I like this kind of set piece cause if the defending team has three attackers running towards the goal as the ball is travelling towards goal, it's actually distracting and creates pressure. When you have 3 or four stood in the area and then two over the ball and one out wide, it's much easier to see what the team may do and defend it

I think we are going to see so many small details like this, in which you think "why have we not been doing that" and it's something I was really shocked at about Mourinho as I thought he was up their with the best for stuff like that yet we hardly did anything different.

With us getting more than one goal, and neither being from Kane or Son, I wondered when was the last time that happened in a PL match. Unless I missed one, the last time that happened in a 2-3 loss to the Wolves on 1/3/2020, where Bergwijn and Aurier scored. Goes to show just how dependent we have been on those two the last couple of years.

This game was won by Conte in the dressing room during the halftime. In the second half there was another team in the pitch.
COYS
Graeme Le Saux on NBCSport hit on the nail when he said in the first half we were a team trying not to lose and in the second half we were a team trying to win.

100% this. I was there and Sanchez was fantastic when he came on. Won 3 headers in a 30sec period that was fantastic. Love Japhet but no where near as solid as Davidson.
To be fair Japhet won all of his headers as well, he can really jump. His play going forwards was just really bad, his passing were awful and it often ended to a Leeds player..

I wasn't hammering Lucas, I was questioning the decision to play two in midfield. Me observing that Lucas gives the ball away in a particular way over and over again isn't me saying he is a shit player. He just isn't suited to be the player that receives the ball deep, facing our goal, in build up. I have nothing against him.

Fair do's. I was just reacting to what I felt was a general unwarranted negativity towards him, and not anyone in particular.

I think that was probably exacerbated by Leeds players using a tight man to man marking tactic, something we've not been able to deal with for many years whenever we come up against a side decent enough to use it effectively on us.

Yep. Actually, Sanchez has looked fairly impressive of late. I wonder whether the Conte factor is having a dramatic effect on his game, even so soon. Hmm.

Watching repeat. So is a blocked shot which is clearly on target, not a shot on target. Happened in the game at Everton too more than once.
This particular stat (Shots on target) is rubbish In my opinion.

Schrödinger's cat >Reguillon’s pass-if you were not watching-it may have happened?
I went to the kitchen for a drink at that point in the match, so in my life it did happen. Don't worry though, you didn't miss much. Emerson mis-controlled it, Lucas mopped it up and Hojbjerg played it back to Dier on the half-way line, just to be safe.

I agree , it’s a crazy stat that means nothing. A team can put 10 lame shots through that the goalie picks up , and the other team can hit the post 3 times and it doesn’t count.
I would rather see a stat of shots that make the goalie make a save, either a block or a hand or foot to actually save a goal rather than just catch a ball.

Agree that shots on target can be very misleading. Like many stats it needs to be viewed in a wider context. I prefer xg as an indicator, but both together give some idea of how a game went, but again still not conclusive
Overall I think we deserved our win, and xg supported that clearly

The caution of a 'low block'. When you become so obsessed with getting men behind the ball rather than pressing or trying to win it back, you don't cover that much ground and you don't sprint as much.

It remains one of the most insane decisions to go from Poch's approach to Mourinho's. Conte has his work cut out for him to build back some bravery and energy that is needed to impose yourself on sides, with and without the ball.

Agreed, but if you look at the game again from about 78-85 minutes(ish), you can see that we did exactly this: defended high up the pitch, through constant running from Lucas in particular, leading to Sanchez winning all the headers by the touchline from Meslier's long balls. Leeds just could get the ball to their midfielders as we limited their options from the back by defending on the front foot.
If this was Mourinho or Nuno, we would just sink back into shape and invite pressure in the last 10-15 minutes.

Hopefully a tiny glimpse of the good things to come!

Yeah, like the possession stats, completely worthless.
