it did mate. why couldnt we travel with ball like we did against chelski and ar5ena1?

gutted!

Because the midfeild didn't look like they wanted the ball. Zokora droped deep then stood behind one of their players making it almost impossible to give him the ball.

Yeah every time I see us play badly I get pissed off cause of how we played against Arsenal in the semi-final, we can do it, I know there was an extra edge to that game, but we're going to need a performance like that in the 2nd leg.

The only good thing to come out of tonight is that for the away leg we wont be bloody favourites!!!!

We do better as underdogs.

Well here's a few things. PSV normally only looked good on the counter in terms of their attack. And the counter only looked good normally when Woodgate and King had to get up field for a free kick. Our attack was woeful. I've never seen so many sideways and backwards passes. Can no one on our team either make an incisive pass or take on their defender.

huddlestone did as soon as he came on, just wonderin how it would have been with him from the start, taarabt looked good as well, he seems to love taking people on.

we better beat hammers on sunday otherwise im going to be really annoyed with how we are playing.

Hoofing it looked the only option, BOF. The only other way the ball was going to get to Berba and Keano was if Robbo had picked it up and carried it (which I believe has been ruled out since the 1830s) , or employed telekinesis. It certainly wasn't going to get to them by passing sideways and backwards.

Well it was the only option if you discount all the other options. Where were Zokora's forward runs? Where was Lennon's wing play? Where were the crosses?

I had hoped the appearance of O'Hara would mean more penetration on the left as he has a left foot and can cross the ball. But he never got forward far enough to sling over any worthwhile crosses.

If we finally find ourselves after the CC Final we can destroy them in Eindhoven. I'm sure we will progress. We all know how good the dutch league is don't we...we are better than PSV and we will prove it. COYS

PSV were very professional last night. We were basically rubbish.

I was very impressed with Affelay - he looks a quality player.

If you're getting bogged down in midfield what is wrong with bypassing it, especially when you have a forward who has the beating of the central defenders in the air? Nothing.

We were making no progress through the middle of the pitch and we were also labouring out wide where I though PSV were very strong, so why not play over it to Berbs, it is after all a perfectly legitimate tactic. It isn't easy to play your way through a bank of 4 protected by a bank of 5. If we hadn't have conceded the goal then I am certain we would have remained more patient but the goal dictated the need for some urgency as trailing frm the 1st leg leaves us in a difficult position. I actually think that ramos would have been happy with a 0-0 last night and I would've seen us as favourites at 0-0.

When we went longer we at least got some joy and Berba won a lot in the air but apart from one moment of brilliance at the end of the 1st half Keane might as well have watched the game in his local wine bar.

PSV even with the lead will have to be more adventurous at home and if we get the 1st goal I'm sure we will go through. They looked dangerous in the last 20 minutes last night but the situation was set up perfectly for counter attacking and they done it quite well. If we can ceate the same situation over there then I'm certain we will do it better and nick the goals.

Where indeed?

As for O'Hara, they were so dangerous down the right (especially with Malbranque playing narrower and narrower and leaving him exposed) that we simply couldn't risk him getting forward.

PSV were brilliant BUT I posted this quote from an article on the BBC site before the Chelsea game:

This is my favourite quote, it gets me just a tad excited:
The record of Ramos's former club Sevilla against the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona in Spain was even more impressive and as one expert has said: "Ramos appears to need only one look at a side before he gets the better of them tactically."

I dont remember a good performance from us, when the opposition have crowded the midfield. We look like startled rabbits when other teams close us down early in the centre of the park.

And tonight it led to us just trying to bypass the middle of the pitch entirely.

We looked really disjointed tonight, disappointing.

Only after Jenas had gone off!

we gotta just go out from the get go and attack them

today was awful tbh. no creativity what so ever. what was with the continious use of the long ball? fair enough last 5-10mins but wasnt needed all game

centre of midfield seemed to be non existent most the match

i fear our season is over

Not over! we won the Carling Cup, to say our season is over shouts failure and this season isn't a failure.

We are still in the Uefa cup and we will be be up for the second leg and Ramos has now sussed them, we know this because we have played them now and thats all he needs.
However if by some strange quirk of fate we don't make it through then we will be cruising into Summer rather than our season being over.
We have already won more than any other team in the Premiership and more than at least one of the top four will win and probably more than two or three of them will win.

for weeks leading up to this tie, I (and others) were saying how tough this was going to be - and so it proved - we were outplayed on the night by a very good team - they would have given any club in the world a hard time on that showing

(assuming that blatant cheating and referee errors weren't playing a part - as happens so often)

our season won't be over till we're safe from relegation - but it looks like it will peter out (re massivley important games) sometime in April, shame -

but we've won a trophy - transformed the decade by doing so - and now are in a very good position to be seen as the 5th most successsful english club this decade - while firming up our position as the 5th most successful English club of all time re our trophy haul (now 17)

very true but it would mean the season would be a formality and the interest in games would be down for most. dont like that we may have to just cruise into the summer we are supposed to be making an impact on the other teams all season long

See now, I made the mistake of getting excited about that quote before the Birmingham game. "You won't get the better of Juande twice in one season!" I told my blues supporting mates. Egg on my face.

Slightly late with my comments but thought we were prob good for a draw on the balance of play, took a while to get going bt we mus have had 70% of territory.....

I think the long ball was obviously a tactic that was highlighted to expos the small PSV defence, would have been more effective throughout the night if Berba and Keane jumped more often....

If we stick with this tactic i would like to see Bent play as his aerial ability is the one area of his game that has looked quite good. I would then put Steed in the middle and play Keane from the left ish side of midfield.....only problem would be left back.

I saw enough to think we can score ove there and as always i feel more comfortable watching Spurs come from behind rather than defending a lead.
