I thought we were better and on another day, with a bit of luck, it'd have been 3-1

it was just one of those days where we didn;t get the rub.

We will do them in eindhoven.

the ball came from robinson, when he punched it back. ref on the sidelines thought kromkamp was in the way of the shot, which he was not. robinson should've never punched it back unto the pitch but to the side.

maybe you agree with me on this:

gomez > robinson.

if not, you're clearly really really reaaaaaaaaaallly biased.

Sorry mate, you've got the rules wrong.

This is one point, probably the only point, where the offside rule is pretty clear. When a shot is parried by the keeper and tucked in on the rebound, if the players who scores the goal was offside when the shot was made, he is technically in play and drawing advantage from his offside position, and therefore offside.

Yes, Gomes made some great stops. He's quite the best keeper in the Eredivisie, from what I've seen this season.

He also made some very dubious flaps at high balls which were quite as poor as anything I've seen from Robbo. So I'd say honours were pretty even tonight.

You seem not to understand the offside law. And, if you think Robinson could have punched the ball to one side, you don't understand the laws of physics either. Moreover, if he'd punched it to his right, it would almost certainly have fallen directly to Kronkamp and played him onside.

A few things from the match :

I got the question I asked earlier answered about how good Gilberto is. Not a great debut.

I think we're still caught up in the hype of winning the cup, maybe we're not as good as we think.

When we get injuries to our first teamers or they don't perform, our squad just isn't strong enough to deal with it. We had no-one that could make a huge difference on the bench tonight.

We could do worse than sign their goalie. Great performance, did everything with the minimum of fuss, we'd have to teach him to catch though.

Play like that in Eindhoven, we'll get destroyed.

we gotta just go out from the get go and attack them

today was awful tbh. no creativity what so ever. what was with the continious use of the long ball? fair enough last 5-10mins but wasnt needed all game

centre of midfield seemed to be non existent most the match

i fear our season is over

You've answered your own question there.

As they pointed out at half-time, when our strikers were crying out for the ball on the edge of their area, it was being passed sideways and backwards. No wonder Keane and Berba were waving their arms about.

It's interesting that one moment stood out for me in the first half. Chimbo had the ball out wide in line with their penalty box and what did he do instead of trying a cross or pass forward he played it back 20 yards to Lennon and sort of forward momentum was lost and it was like that all night. :?

IMO:

1. This match was mainly lost because of tactical errors:
- Replacing King huge mistake, after that Afellay and Farfan were having a field day indeed, deselina.
- Gilberto shouldn't have had this match as his debut. Instead, Lee as a former PSV player and with his classic tidiness would have been a much more adequate choice.
- For the last 15 minutes it was all long air balls from Robinson to the strikers. Totally desperate.
- No creativity whatosever!!! I'm Chilean, so it's bias, but please get Jorge Valdivia from Palmeiras for next season!!!

2. We will probably bounce back in the away leg:
- PSV might have a different attitude, a little bit more open maybe, as they will need to eliminate us from the fixture early in the match.
- If they don't and sit back, their crowd will be either critical or silent, nervous and we will have the chance to make it to extra time and gain momentum.
- Ramos has shown he gets the complete picture pretty fast and will place the best possible formation for the match, plus the adequate disposition. Remember, this guy is the Uefa Cup maestro.

3. The rest of the league matches will hopefully include more minutes for players like Taraabt, Tainio, Gilberto, O'hara, Pekhart, Boateng, etc., so they can really show what kind of players they are and if they are what we need to take the team onto the next level.

Despite of the result, it's still happy times for Spurs I reckon... What a different prospect we have after winning the Carling Cup.

I dont remember a good performance from us, when the opposition have crowded the midfield. We look like startled rabbits when other teams close us down early in the centre of the park.

And tonight it led to us just trying to bypass the middle of the pitch entirely.

We looked really disjointed tonight, disappointing.

The guy was off side when the original shot was made and became active when the ball came back to him from Robbo.

Therefore off side. End of.

What do you think about Matias Fernandez of Villareal? He's Chilean isn't he?

Easily the best buy on FM08 but I've never seen him in real life. Is he really any good?

Very disappointed with the manager and the fans this evening.

We only sing when we're winning.
No disrespect meant General Levy, but I'd be interested to know whether you were one of us who put their money where their mouths are and turned up tonight.

All well and good criticising the team for a poor performance, fully understand that and agree with it, although I don't think we were that bad and think that psv aren't actually all that.

Just don't get some people, maybe not you I dunno, who go on about wanting a bigger stadium but don't bother turning up to games like this. We didn't even sell out ffs.

For the record, those of us who were there tried to motivate the team as best we could. Evidently not enough for those watching from the comfort of their own armchairs.

i was there tonight and agree with general levy. The PSV fans destroyed us in terms of support. One fan in block 35 kept on calling Robbo a 'twunt' and it was so quiet in the ground that robbo definitely heard. That's hardly the best way to motivate your team.
I agree that there was definitely not that much to cheer about but I was embarrassed at how much we were out sung.

Well having seen the shower of shite at Birmingham on Saturday I thought we'd got that out of our system. Pretty much the CC Final team, I thought we'd give it a good go.

Desperately woeful. Long ball tactic bored the pants off me. What was the point of trying it for half an hour or more in the second half? Did it looks as pathetic and wasteful on TV as it did to me in block 5?

Trying to break down a 5-man midfield by continuously driving through the middle is pointless. We needed to use the flanks and attack the full backs, pull players out of position. It must have been like a training ground exercise for them, such was our lack of creativity.

We are by no means out of it but we need to put in a CC semis/final performance out there next week.

Personally, I think he is as talented as Valdivia, maybe even more as he showed for Colo Colo in 2006. Slightly different kind of player, though. He is even more of a flair kind of player, but not a show off one, much less talkative than the Palmeiras midfielder.

Still, he hasn't been very impressive for Villarreal, mainly due to an injury and an accumulated overload of matches. Valdivia, on the contrary, is currently the best player in Brazil, most influential and decisive as well, bagging winners in almost every confrontation against the top local teams. He has been praised from everyone there, including Pele. But his attitude and behavior off the pitch, specially when selected for the national squad, are less than impressive, sometimes pathetic being fair.

It's a tough call, even some other Chileans might be a real asset to Spurs, like Luis Jimenez from Inter or Mark Gonzalez at left wing from Betis (who didn't figure in Rafa Benitez' plans for Liverpool this season). The thing is that they might be cheap compared to some other acquisitions and have tons of class and international experience.

I would stick to Valdivia, though. Fernandez is more of a Riquelme kind of player, he was actually his replacement at Villarreal.

Awful performance from the players, we in the stands were just as bad and the cc presentation looked fairly naff as well. Well done to PSV they showed us up both on and off the pitch.

Hoofing it looked the only option, BOF. The only other way the ball was going to get to Berba and Keano was if Robbo had picked it up and carried it (which I believe has been ruled out since the 1830s) , or employed telekinesis. It certainly wasn't going to get to them by passing sideways and backwards.
