Dele Alli had the footballing world at his feet just a few years ago as his electric form under Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham Hotspur made him one of the best attacking talents across the continent.

If Dele does end up in Turkey on a perm. How does the fee owed by Everton break down?

Appreciate it’s “performance related”, but there was always going to be a risk that Everton sign him for peanuts, insist on a mouth watering performance related transfer fee, and then sell before the performance related fee’s can be triggered.

I refuse to believe Levy has been Levy’d!

Dele (recently worth £140m) was given away for free.
Alderweireld (current internation afaik) given away for free.
Sissoko (was in WC squad at time) given away for free.
Aurier (current internation afaik) contract paid up.

Thinking about it, paying clubs to play our players like ndom and lo celso, is not much better/even worse.

The club are still making money hand over fist, but it all feels a bit unsustainable.

Lol, Alderweireld and Sissoko definitely weren't given away for free.

The fee for Toby was around 10 mil. £ (13 mil €), while Sissoko went for a measly 2,5 mil. £. Far from free though.

Alli neither, just deferred payments related to appearances and performance, and most likely some clauses that prevents Everton from circumventing that.

All in all we've actually been pretty good at offloading our unwanted players for actual fees in the past.

Who doesn't remember Stoke paying us 10 mil. £ for Crouch, more than we payed for him at first. In general Stoke and Sunderland has been generous takers of our deadwood before.

Yeah not ideal. We had a pretty barren run of good transfers from around 2016-2020 and that, combined with covid and the European market collapsing, has meant our money from sales has massively dried up.

There are lots of other clubs in the same boat, thankfully. Arsenal and United especially have been terrible at selling players for a number of years after putting average players on mega wages, so I think they're worse off than we are. Plus players like Toby and Sissoko were old anyway and never going to be worth huge fees, while Alli was a top earner and we needed to get his wages off the books I suspect.

Thankfully our buying has been a lot better since Paratici joined so we've actually got some quality assets again if we need to sell going forward.

I'm really confused.

Can someone explain how we are likely to get any money out of the Alli transfer?
