I think Spurs really market themselves badly.
I live in Kent, and you can get Spurs shirts, but never any spurs merchandise, yet in sports shops and supermarkets there is always bundles of Utd, Liverpool, Scum and Chelski stuff...even West Ham. It's mostly cheap products, but I think that we risk not being able to grow our fan base as dramatically as a lot of other clubs just through a lack of presence...Especially at the moment when lots of people would be jumpng on our band wagon.

Obviously, I don't promote millions of 'plastic' fans, but if we're going to fill a 60k stadium week in week out one day, we'll need to grow our fanbase.

To drive it home I bought a cd with spurs songs this week and playing it while spending time playing with the boy. Its going subliminal!!!

Perfectly acceptable behaviour. I used every trick in the book to ensure my 3 lads (now aged 33, 28 & 24) all supported Spurs-not an easy task as we lived in Germany for 9 years when they were little.

I told them the cockerel perched up on the East stand was made from solid gold, that the West stand, along with the Great Wall of China, were the only man-made objects visible from the moon, that of all the clubs in all the world William Shakespeare only ever wrote about 'Hotspur'. I even made them stare at the sleek lines of our beautiful cockerel motif - the 'best club badge in the world'.

It worked, of course. All 3 are now well balanced, successful, t'riffic lads - and have we had some fun (give or take....!) watching the Spurs.

Keep up the good work, sir.

The current team is doing wonders for us Spurs evangelists.

I got an American watching spurs whilst he was over here (he was my sole person to hug and jump up and down with when we beat city to get into the CL). Now he has loads of mates joining him to watch the games in the U.S. together. They all don't want to be glory hunters, but want an exciting up and coming team - so they are all new yids!

Other old friends I've bumped into over here also have started calling themselves spurs fans.

I reckon our fanbase must be shooting up in size

A couple of my mates who support Bristol Rovers have started saying that Spurs are their 'Premiership team' now. They like they way we play, and most of them have said they've always had a soft spot for us since Gary Mabbut played for us. Also, because Rovers are god awful at the moment, I think it's a nice distraction. One of them is even planning to go up and up watch us in the new year.

I don't think "other" supporters realise how important it is to bring the next generation up as the next Spurs fans. I was out watching a game last season in a pub and a family came in for a meal, father wearing a Liverpool t-shirt, two sons, one wearing a Man Utd strip and the other a Chelsea strip.
I went over and asked him what happened, and he said other kids got to them before he did. Kinda sad as he was a proper Liverpool fan.
I will not let that happen to my son. He hasn't had a bad run of it so far. 6 months old, he cried when Berbatov equalised at Wembley (ok me screaming for a pen didnt help), has seen CL footy come to the league, and had a generally happy Dad for the past few years (apart from last weekend).
Now to start him on the DVD collection.
