Spurs Monthly Shocker

I was in the Chelmsford Sainsbury's earlier and as I was passing the magazine section I thought I'd see if they had a copy of Spurs Monthly. Now the last time I was there they only had in amongst their six racks of womens magazines and TV guides (why are there so many?), a few copies of Man Utd Monthly. I didn't think much of it at the time, we all know how many Man Utd fans live down South and I figured they had just sold out.

Back to today. I looked on the shelf and to my horror, sitting next to Man Utd was not Spurs Monthly, but the pea brained dunce Mario Balotelli on the front cover of Man City magazine. "What was it doing there?" I asked myself. Surely there couldn't possibly be enough City fans here in Chelmsford Essex to justify selling that rag, this a Spurs stronghold after all, we even have a Spurs shop on the high street.

After I had put equestrian and air gun magazines in front of the two stacks of Manc eyesores, I requested to the Lady on the front desk that they start selling Spurs Monthly. I have no idea if they will but I'm not really that bothered about the magazine, I can get it from the Spurs Shop after all. I'm more concerned that there are already a load of young kids supporting Man City in my town.

What I'm trying to say is if you have children, please force them to support Spurs if you've not done so already!

I know what you mean.

I work in a sports shop (when I'm not being a student bum) and we stock Man City shirts now (check my location...). I was livid when they first came in although I'm slightly less angry now because the only one I've sold myself was to an actual Manc.

It has always been the way though hasn't it that kids support the most successful teams? I know several non-Lancashire Blackburn fans, lots of non-Geordie Newcastle fans and the average number of United and Liverpool fans, to give examples.

P.S. It's called Hotspur now.

I've started seeing City shirts in Hastings town centre. You can almost make out the Chelsea logo underneath the City one...

For those outlets that DO sell the HOTSPUR magazine, it is every Spurs fans' duty to;

a. Cover every other clubs mag with Hotspur.

b. Cover as many other mag's (non-specified) with Hotspur.

c. Where possible place as many copies of Hotspur mag's in a line at 'eye level'.

I also have several other ideas regarding Tottenham 'product placement' in the event of (televised) worldwide revolution, civil disturbance, civil war, drought, famine, war and pestilence.

Unfortunately I haven't got any further than coming up with the name of the (registered charity) 'Spurs Aid'.

It will always be Spurs Monthly to me, I'm sure I still have a Ramon Vega poster in a box in the loft. I'm glad you're all forcing Spurs on your kids, it's the right thing to do.

Living in Milton Keynes all my life (that's 27 years if you're wondering) I'm one of many who grew up supporting a top flight club before MK Dons were formed. I therefore have no problem with people from my age group in the area supporting our rivals, especially as many of the people here have London roots in some way, and so they have parents/grandparent who support ourselves, Arse, and to a lesser extent, Chelsea.

However, about a year ago I saw a kid, probably about 11 years old, wearing a Man City shirt. I wanted to punch him. I, a 27 year old man who hasn't been in a fight since primary school, actually wanted to go and punch this glory hunting little shit.

If I'd grown up with either a local team (i.e MK Dons) or a strong link to a club via my Dad (who is more of a rugby man), I would undoubtedly have supported one of those clubs. So there is no excuse for this fat little glory hunting bumder (he was pretty chunky) supporting Man City.

So basically, yep, if you have kids force them to support Spurs before their 'friends' turn them onto City, Chelsea, Barcelona, or whoever else is fashionable on the playground.

When my Dad used to look through the 'Match magazine' he'd buy me as a kid he used to scribble over the scum players before I could read it. He also used to have to 'cleanse' his hands on a spurs shirt at a sports shop if he inadvertently brushed past a scum shirt. I love my dad.

I threatened my two when they were young that they'd live in the shed if they were fans of anyone other than Spurs.

I took my son for the tour of WHL for his 9th Birthday, and sitting in Harry's chair in the press room he was asked "why do you support Spurs", "Cause my dad made me live in the shed until I did" came the response, followed by a round of appause.

He loves it though, couldn't be happier with my choice for him ;)

If you don't force your kids to support Spurs, then Sky Sports will force them to support Man U.

The choice is yours........

I am also in Chelmsford, and was in HSBC the other day, which is opposite the Spurs megastore, and a woman looked at me (I was in my spurs top) and this woman looked at me and said:
Stupid Bint said:
Spurs are shit you know, you should support West Ham

So I replied, why would anyone in their right mind do that? She said, you're in Chelmsford...West Ham territory!

I laughed my head off and reminded her she is an idiot.

I've heard that before too (load of bollocks that it is), they seem to think they own the place although I think they must all be in hiding because I've not seen many Spammers since last May :)

My wife kills me for trying to brainwash our son, we have actually had rows over it.

I keep telling her that it is important to me that I pass on a huge love in my love to my boy, as it was passed down to me. I told her it is easy now for kids to support Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and now City, but it doesn't mean anything. People who support Spurs have a passion which is clear to see and hear, and you can see it in the other plastic clubs that the lack of atmosphere is apparent.

To drive it home I bought a cd with spurs songs this week and playing it while spending time playing with the boy. Its going subliminal!!!

The current team is doing wonders for us Spurs evangelists.

I got an American watching spurs whilst he was over here (he was my sole person to hug and jump up and down with when we beat city to get into the CL). Now he has loads of mates joining him to watch the games in the U.S. together. They all don't want to be glory hunters, but want an exciting up and coming team - so they are all new yids!

Other old friends I've bumped into over here also have started calling themselves spurs fans.

I reckon our fanbase must be shooting up in size
