I've seen very little of Modric, but when I have, he's never really seemed all that to me. Taking into consideration though that when we signed Berbatov, I'd seen very little of him, and when I had he hadn't seemed all that, I wouldn't worry too much about my input on this one :)

Regardless of the above, I'd be chuffed if we got him (we all love a big money, media hyped signing, don't we folks?).

I like the quote below the Jenas article:

What drivel.

Jenas is moving out of London. So what? Spurs training ground is in Essex.

Please provide a quote to supprt the statement: "The midfielder has been with the club for three years and has made 78 appearances, but has increasingly frustrated the management with his inconsistent form"

More speculative cobblers.

From an SC-er by any chance? Good to see a comment like this attached directly to an article. I wonder if the journo takes note?

Im not too fussed about goal scoring (although a few a season is good) but can this guy spray passes around the pitch? Can he play killer through balls?

Thats all i care about

I have really been impressed by this guy in the past couple of seasons and he has all the ability in the world. This guy is an attacking midfielder who can spray passes and killer balls into the strikers. He is not very tall and he does'nt look very strong but he has a good attitude and great balance. It has been rumoured that he signed a pre contract with the gooners, not sure if that is true but IF we could get him!WOW!

if you had this team two of zokora/jj/hudd/tainio would probably work most of the time. add one tough tackler and youd have a good set of MF there.

arshavin is very lazy but i suppose hutton would help stablize that side as he works 200%.

not much defesively wise in that team either, would it then accomodate two holding mids?

id personally swap arshavin for bentley as i think we need to have someone who holds it occassionally and looks up then delivers killer long beckham-esque passes.

Would probably play Jenas/Zokora and another defensive midfielder.

All the creativity would come from Arshavin and Modric cutting in from the wings. We could even play 1 of them behind Bent. Bale and Hutton would provide the width.Lennon could come off the bench if we need more width or Bale could be pushed forward. As for Bentley,he would cost too much. Asharvin would be cheaper(8 million). Plus he is a better player. Much better player than Bentley. We need to get over our obssesion with English players. They can only take us so far.

I got to thinking about Modric, and while a good player, potentially great, we would be insane to buy him. 18 million pounds. Effectively the same price as Carrick and he would be expected to be as good as Carrick almost immediately. He won't be. I'm not saying that such a thing might not be possible down the road, but in his first year, I can't imagine that Modric will even come close to the impact in the league and for our club that Michael Carrick had. He will be an abject failure that first year. And if you think about how harsh we have been on Kaboul and Prince, who were too expensive and combined still a bargain comparatively, how are we going to react to Modric. We'll hate him, for the most part. Sure there will be people saying give him time, and they will be correct. But football supporters do not have perspective. So we need to find cheaper. Hopefully there comes a day, when we can pay 18 million and give it time, but it ain't next year.

just because he wont be great in his first year doesnt mean we shouldnt buy him. If the club thought like that we'd be mediocre forever!

But from what I read on here most SC posters think Darrent Bent is useless and was a waste of money. :bang:

JJ: A good attacking midfielder...once every five games
quote]

Hi TSH - completely disagree with that statement re JJ - I'd say he has a good game something like 1 in 2 and an acceptable or better game 2 out of three games,

that's nowhere near one in 5 - yes he had a blip recently due to injury problems - but normally JJ is one of our more consistently useful players - it's just a lot of his good work is ignored, often by people with an agenda against him

since comeing back he's played 1 game - was a good game

and of course often he's very good and sometimes as in the 5-1 - magnificent

There are various reasons why he's our best mid and one of them is because he plays more good games than bad

I don't confess to having seen a lot of Modric but from what I have seen and read he sounds awesome and if it ends up being say, £15M then do it - I'm game for a giggle.*

* I hope they don't use that phrase in the transfer committee meetings at Spurs.

I've only seen Modric play once (against England) and he was quality, so I'd be in favour of buying him for sure.

However...

I think we definently need 3 or 4 signings who are 26yrs - 30yrs old, whether they be squad players or first teamers.
I think the lack of experience in the first team has hit us hard this season.

Added to this, throwing inexperienced youngsters into the first-team from day one, stiffles their development.
Youthful potential should be nurtured, not subjected to a 'sink or swim' mentality. Sadly, this has been the Spurs' way for as long as I can remember.

From what little I've seen of the guy, I'd love him at the lane. Bit of a punt I suspect.

As always, will trust the granite one.
