Spurs Fans on BBC3 Footy Hooligan Show

There was a BBC3 show on football hooligans and one of the segments focused on a spurs fan who was involved in violence. I dont know about you but these are not the sort of fans I want at our club and I was embarassed that they use the clubs support to justify this. I just wanted to gauge other people's opinion.

I've been on european trips with the club and there always seems an element of the support going over who are just there for a dust up and nothing annoys me more.

Yeah. Dante.

Thing was, he seemed like a really nice guy when he wasn't 'spinning people over'.

It was good to see his missus stepping in though to reign him in a bit. He might have been a big old unit, but she really seemed to have him under control!

It's just a bit worrying that some of the kids on there thought NOT getting beaten up each week was 'just boring'. If this is the most they can aspire to, then it's a pretty sad state of affairs.

I've often appreciated the fact that blokes with differences can sort things out with a little bout of fisticuffs, but arranged fisticuffs and fisticuffs that turn into ram-this-broken-glass-into-your-face-icuffs, are not something that I think can ever be called 'fun'.

Problem is, the game has moved on, while the neanderthal element hasn't.
Clubs are trying to engineer their appeal to be more family orientated and, as a father of 2, I think it's the right thing to do. I don't see the need for anyone to be going to a game just to have a fight.

Tribalist bollocks that has no place in football or society. It's absurdly hilarious. Grown men going to watch other men play sport and thinking that's a reason to get violent. Baby dicks, the lot of them.

Oh they definately have mate. There are a few still, but really a few.

I know many who were breaking heads in the 80's and 90's for shits and giggles who are mortified by their behaviour now and wouldn't dream of it anymore. Plenty. Most people have moved on.

I was in the video at Fulam broadway station I think lol. Nawtyyyy.

I don't have a problem with it. Like minded people having a scrap then having a beer on other days. I'm into my Muay Thai etc and don't think that if someone enjoys fighting then somehow they are a retard or whatever. Tribalism is everywhere in humankind. It's not surprising. The way those lads go about it, I have no problem. It's when it starts to affect the average fan and member of the public, that it's wrong IMO.

Just adding to this, the smashing up of pubs and glassing each other is obviously a no no aswell.

I sat open mouthed through most of this last night, not just the spurs bit

My main thought through it all was, I take my son to football. He loves spurs. At some point he is going to go on his, own. Will he end up like these twats on tv..

Was an interesting watch to see it's still going on. All a bit 80's and little boys trying to prove themselves. Interesting to see the Spurs guy find out that when he got sent down, his 'crew' didn't stay in touch but his family did, it seemed to hit home to him.

i meant to add to this last night that it seemed that most of the kids who got sucked inot this lifestyle seemed to be single parent\damaged up bringing types. much like inner city gangs its seems most of them are just looking to be part of a family. which i can understand.

Some but ive known of city workers etc be part of it. It isn't down to class, religion, race, etc at all. Some people like to fight. Fight Club (film) is a great example.

Was about to say the same.
They are looking for an identity because mum & dad don't love them enough, and end up mixing with like-minded people.
I only watched first couple of mins as wife wants to watch, but the lad from Bury summed it all up.

Getting train home from Watford last night after work and encountered what seemed to be AFC Wimbledon's attempt at a firm heading towards Milton Keynes. There were 3 types of fan within them:
a) Those going for the game itself
b) The young firm, decked out in the new yob brand "Stone Island", who weren't afraid to admit they were going to cause trouble
c) The older firm, who were going for the game and a scrap.

Thing is, MK Dons are such a family orientated club, I'm 99.99% certain they won't have had anyone to scrap with!

EDIT: Just read that after they scored a consolation goal last night, a bunch of the Wimbledon fans invaded the pitch, and went over to the bulk of MK fans, trying to goad them into a reaction. Very mature behaviour considering a good % of the MK fans were young kids.
I was considering taking my 2 to the game, but knew there would be trouble, so decided against it.

If you want a fight to let off steam, join a boxing club/gym and take it out there. No doubt you do your Muay Thai in a proper location, under proper controls, where it's unlikely someone will end up in hospital.
Why take it out in the middle of a stream and damage shops/cafes/restaurants???
Mindless scum...

Ye im not disagreeing with that. I don't see any harm in these lot going off to some local park etc and having a fight. When was the last time a pub or shop got smashed up around Tottenham? West ham a few years ago but nothing since. It really isn't as bigger problem as people are making out. The cctv and policing at grounds means that these meets happen way away from the ground. Obviously you still get clashes outside the ground now and then but there's nothing arranged about those and its usually low single figures involved.

Sigh, Misty eyed memories.
For some people fighting is fun especially in a group but I'm not sure where else these days you can ally yourself to any particular group other than football.
In what seems another life my school used to have pitched battles with another school, something tells me that doesn't happen any more, I'm sure it'd make the six o'clock news these days so I don't think there's too much of a problem and rest assured if some BBC3 researcher knows this guy then so do the authorities and I doubt very much he gets into many games.
