Spurs already listening to offers for Emerson Royal less than year after transfer after erratic displays

We loan him out, Conte leaves after another season or two and he comes back a more rounded player?

Or just find a player that suits Conte system? Things don't always have to work out. We seen time after time, players not settling in the league and finding success elsewhere, it's not a exact science. Look at our own roster, GLC struggled to handled the PL, goes back to La Liga and he's staying injury free and helping Villareal.

Your initial question was something like “does anyone think Royal can do what Doherty has done in the last few games”

I just made the simple point that no one, literally no one, rated Doherty as a championship standard football player a few weeks ago so we can forget about the RWB v RB bollocks. Who on here, or in real life, do you know that was saying “Doherty is a brilliant footballer, he just needs to play at RWB”

If you concede that everyone wrote him off then it’s a bit silly to rule out the possibility of Royal turning it around, especially when the latter is a lot younger and has no prem experience.

And even if I agreed with you about the whole position thing, for all we know Conte is gone in half a year and we get another manager in who plays Royal in a system that’s more favourable to his strengths.

Having said all that I wouldn’t lose any sleep if we sold both this summer to be honest.

At the crux of it, we're discussing poor or badly executed scouting. If we can move on both players for 2 better suited RWBs, I'm all for it. I simply cannot see Royal executing or rather, the amount of time needed for Royal to show any level comfort as a Conte RWB would be better used Improving a Conte specific RWB. Doherty has played better and long may it continue. Royal can play better, I just don't believe he'll show that form at Spurs.

Both is an option, no?

Also, I seem to remember Doherty playing as a RWB and stinking the place out. He’s had 2 decent games. People are getting far too ahead of themselves.
I agree. The players around them will make a big difference especially in this system. The thing with Doc is that he's at least in the past shown he can play that role very well. Emerson looks completely lost as a wing back, and I mean completely lost.

Oh and I need to go back and find some of my posts on the matter because I've been saying Doc was the far better option for this role for a long time. Also that he needed a run of games at that position to show it.

Not really. Very few clubs play with a RWB and even fewer clubs or managers place as much importance in the wingbacks as Conte does. So, in order for Tottenham to benefit from a Emerson loan, so he can come back to us ready to play for Conte, he would need to go to a club that is patient enough to develop him further as a RWB and that also places similar importance to the attacking responsibility of that role. Because it doesn't make sense to loan him out to another club that will ask him to play as RB that focuses on his defensive duty and then bring him back hoping he can turn a switch and become a marauding RWB. So, my suggestion, find him a club that suits his abilities and also focus on finding a RWB who suits Conte's needs.

I think the point others are trying to make is that we have a decent rb on our books, and selling him outright could turn out to be a mistake if (in 12 months time let’s say) conte did leave and we hired a manager who played with a back 4.
If we need to sell because we need the money then fine.
Otherwise we are just keeping him on the back burner just in case. Which might be smarter than it is frivolous.

They need to sell him now. The longer he stays the more his price will decrease. He offers nothing going forward and is a liability as a defender. I don't know who or where they watched him but it was a poor purchase. When I see Emerson and Sanchez in the team I know we are in for a dodgy time.

Not heard anything of Max Aarons for a while. Would he still be a viable option to replace Emerson? Haven't really seen anything of Norwich this season, but a HG option with EPL experience might work for us.
