Dier has gone backwards at Spurs. Wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him leave, he looks like he wants to try something new too

That said, it does weaken our squad in a number of areas

I find it difficult to quantify statements like that without facts, have you seen any that shows our loss rate is higher without him?

Its not a crime to trust what you see with your own eyes . Facts with clear figures and graphics ain’t always quantifiable. Dier plays in a pivotal role that allows multiple in game changes one such move we tend not to do as much with the CB splitting and full backs pushed further up.

HG. Versatile. Good Attitude. I think now’s the time for him to move to CB though. We have problems to solve already without selling a good player to a rival. I have faith in your Eric.

Plus I want to start singing the Eric Dier chant again. One of my faves... all together now!
I don't think he is HG.

He's not homegrown. Raised in Portugal. Being English doesn't matter.

I'm sure if you asked 100 man United fans who their 10 most valuable player are/were 100 of them wouldn't include John O'shea. I reckon 10 might remember who he was if prompted.

I agree with you, they wouldn't, but they were a spoilt bunch who may not remember he was Mr Versatile who won quite a few titles with a team playing in probably 25+/38 games in most of those seasons so if they don't appreciate what he did then they are idiots. He grafted while their stars shone, much like our Eric could.

But I asked a question in response to someone who stated we lose more when he isn't playing, must be a crime then to ask what basis that fact came from. Wether that means he should be sold or is worth keeping is a different question. In a thread where people are debating his value to us where some have reminded of his errors which have conceded chances (fact), only someone who thinks their opinion is superior is likely to respond like you did, your telling we to ignore that the statement could be inaccurate. There isnt really a right or wrong opinion here and its just a decision to be made by the club which I will support either way.

He can cover CM, CB and RB and that versatility is incredibly useful to have and I'd be happy to keep him in the squad, but going forward, he's likely to only be a backup for each of those positions. If a good enough offer comes in, and he wants to go, I don't feel like it would hurt us too much in terms of quality. Seems like a decent bloke off the pitch though, so might hurt the squad on a personal level.

You've completely lost the plot solsjkaer mention Dier being underrated and i happened to agree with those sentiment. It was you who did not respect an opinion sighting facts. I added to that opinion with trusting my own eyes...separate point I remembers stats showing Dembele and Modric in unfavourable light by you own eyes you can see their value...plus before this season Poch always played Dier.

Dier is a liability.
He may play well for 89 minutes of a match, but he has a minimum of 1 catastrophic brain fart every single match. He has tendencies to pass the ball waywardly straight into attacking players costing us goals. He proved against Bournemouth that he has little intelligence. He did enough to get sent off twice in that half of football.

He's a great lad and has been a great asset and a great squad member. But if the money is right, he frees up a non home grown squad place, brings in decent cash and gives us a chance to move up a notch.

sell all day long. gone massively backwards in the last couple of years. he might be classed as CB and RB cover by some but he isn't anywhere near good enough for those positions. mobility has looked an issue for a while.

looks like he's carrying a good deal more timber than when he first moved to DM and was a revelation.

used to rate him but now dread seeing his name on the team sheet.

He's not had a great season, so for me it depends on what we bring in & how Poch sees Dier fitting in!

Lol.....yes mate. Lets finish OK, this isn't going to get anywhere soon unless you can go back re-read and understand. If some one intimates that we lose more without Dier than we do with him it isn't an opinion.

I presume you mean he’s just gone backwards in the last year or so, not his whole time at spurs

Think this is very much true. He also has a very good mentality and seems like a true professional. Sadly he hasn't been able to take the next step necessary to keep his place in midfield. He probably wouldn't be a first choice defender either but i truly belive Dier still could develop into a world class CB if he wanted to play in that position. He has a tendency to lose focus (which is something i believe he would be able to improve on) but except for that he's got the tools.

Sadly we have maybe outgrown him a little combined with him not keeping up with others that have taken their chances.

I like Dier and the tactical flexibility he can give us. His illnesses have hampered his season this time around but I think Poch can still get more from him in the future.
