According to ITK we're at least partially interested again in this little rubber boned dynamo of dubious parentage but no little skill.

what do you think?

I would wecome him. Our alternatives to Lennon on the wing when he's injued or fatigued include Ghaly, tainio and routeledge - useful but with no cutting edge. We know that Lennon can do a job on the left and if we got Petrov as well I'd say we'd be covered for wingers and could keep them all happy with their playing time.

I'd welcome him openly, would be yet another good signing. Im quite enjoying being the best option for players not quite good enough for the top 2 or 3 clubs. I honestly beleive with playing time his confidence will pick up and he could become a great player for us. At 10 mil i would.

More intriguingly, if there is meat on this rumour, what's the possibility of that old chesnut of Lennon preffering the North rearing up again?

We should bid. I know a lot of people will disagree with me but, on the evidence of last season, I think Lennon flatters to deceive and is not nearly as good as he seems to think he is. SWP is a classic case of the curse of the big squad - he is the sort of player who needs to play regularly. If Chelsea offered us SWP plus a chunk of cash for Lennon , I would be in favour of doing the deal.

I would love for us to sign Shaun Wright-Phillips. If he signs hopefully we can get him and Lennon switching flanks during games.

Let's at least spell his name right, eh?

Good player. I'd be in favour, just so I can sing "Who's got a big fat mum?" more than once or twice a season.

I really rate SWP, but as others have said only if Lennon is going would I want him, or we've got soooo much money we can afford him and at least one other mid/lefty, so he and Lennon can alternate due to fitness etc.

We've got too many little players in mid and up front and not enough physical bite

We need to get a player in of the Reo Coker/Jagielka mould, someone who will drive the mid in some way or other - maybe Sneijder will do and I'm sure there are other candidates too

If we are to get another winger in then Pedersen and Petrov sound possible but maybe neither quite fit for various reasons

But the idea of playing lennon SWP and any 2 from JJ TT and Zoko to me is a sure way of getting beat and 'beaten up' in too many games -

I could quite easily see a mid like that losing at Mackems and drawing with toffees at start of season

I'd see SWP and Lennon as both right wingers who can also play on the left, plus have the ability to play off a main striker (Berbatov or Bent) in the same way Keane does, plus in SWP's case, can also play as a driving advanced central midfield player. In my view, if Bent arrives, then, with SWP in and Defoe out, we are giving the squad much greater flexibility.

He has both the final ball and the goals to fully get return on the investment. Lennon has the pace, a bit of trickery and a load of potential but SWP is the finished article.

Why wait for lennon lets Go grab him i say.

good points AG :) - tho I don't think Lennon has the eye for goal at moment anyway that would make him a good '2nd striker' I think SWP could do that -

and I certainly take your point in general about greater flexibility

I would still worry about SWP and Lennon playing in same team though for a lot of matches - but if we only had one conventional striker on the pitch it might work better - depending on who else was in mid of course -

If there's anything in this, it suggests we may have decided Petrov's too much of a risk or that Atleti have priced him at far more than we're prepared to pay for a 28-year-old, or both.

Another angle may be that if Defoe is going and Bent comng in then SWP could also offer options as 4th striker as well as 2nd winger. He has played there for both City and Chelski.

if the match wasnt going well SWP or lennon could be excellent impact players. SO you wouldnt always have to play both of them at the same time. Who the hell wouldnt want SWP , hes only had a bad time at chelsea and thats because they play the dullest football ever.
