I'm going on the record and saying I think Scott Parker would be a terrible transfer for us. He's overrated and wouldn't suit our style of play. If we sign him I know Harry will play him and the day we move VDV out to the right and drop Lennon to "accommodate" Parker I'll be fuming.

This is gonna be just like the bloody Pienaar signing. Descent player for an average team or even Liverpool but at Spurs he'll be out of his depth and won't get how to play the passing game.

Whats our style of play like away, when a lot of the time we get roughed up and not allowed to play our football...Parker will be a very good addition, and quite frankly we need a few players who will drive a game, roll their sleeves up and get stuck in. He'll be vocal and lead by example, its what we've missed for years IMO.

Not saying he'll be a class act, but he will be good for a lot of games and he'll improve the quality of the squad.

Agreed.... But he's gonna play a hell of a lot more than that and not just be used as a squad player. Pienaar MK2.

If he's not playing well he wont be in the first team, simples. I actually think Pienaar is a decent little footballer, people writing him off too quickly. Once he gets over the injuries I think we'll see what he can do. Don't get me wrong, not saying he's class or anything, he just hasn't shown what he can do yet...however he's no more than a squad player.

Parker will be a good signing, pretty sure about that...but the main point for me is that we are improving the squad, and its very much a squad game now.

Tottenham snobbery from some on here thinking Parker isnt good enough for us. The Football Writers Player of the Year last season, in a very poor side, isnt good enough for us?
He has the tenacity of Palacios, the work rate of Jenas and goal scoring ability of Modric. Maybe not pass as well as Hudd, but is certainly a very good passer of a football. He has drive, determination, leadership, something we severly lack at times. Especially against the little sides when we struggle to break teams down. We often give up. Fans do anyway. Sitting in the stands watching us tear Westham to Shreads, I knew after 50 minutes that game was finishing 0-0. Someone like Parker can galvanise the team in situations like that and push the team on. Can Huddlestone? Great player in a winning side, but Hudd doesnt do the ugly stuff.

Dont get me wrong, in a 442 its Modric and Sandro, but in a 4231 with Modric maybe pushed further forward, PArker, Sandro and Huddlestone offer grea options and all something different in for those 2 positions.
Harry wants leaders, and I'd much rather Parker to Neville or Beckham.

Joe Cole........... now thats a different story.

^ Interesting comparison...

Regardless of his assets, I'd be very concerned how and when he'll be used.

Also, re the award, sports journos are clueless.

They may be clueless, but consider those who won the award previously. Here's the list back to '98-'99:

Rooney, Gerrard, Ronaldo, Ronaldo, Henry, Lampard, Henry, Henry, Pires, Sheringham, Keane, Ginola, Bergkamp

Nevermind Sports journalists, there are plenty of knowledgeable people who thought Parker had a very good season.

Was thinking, it was BBLG who first mentioned I think but, having Parker+Sandro holding, Modric ahead, VDV right, Bale left and Adebayor as a lone striker does seem very appealing. The only question mark will be VDV's effectiveness from that position.

Now not only does that look appealing but, it will be great to have the ability to bring the likes of Pienaar, Kranjcar, Huddlestone and especially Lennon off the bench.

A midfield 3 of Modric/Sandro/Parker has great bite, strength, energy and creativity (mostly in the form of Modric) that would hopefully see us control certain games for long periods and prevent us from getting caught out with counter attack goals that we saw quite a few times at WHL last season.

Will be very interesting to see if we do indeed go with something like this.

yes. i think some on here are only really watching spurs play every week, and the type of contribution players like parker bring to a team are not easily seen on MOTD

I know we all lean towards current Spurs players when comparing players abilities> But look back at last year and how we all felt about Gallas - once he was one of us we thought differently.
Parker in to fight it out with the rest of them.. Whoever is performing plays. Simple. Would also allow us to drop VDV is he strops, playing Modders off Adebayor.

Looking at the competiton we could have in our squad next season, I think the only guaranteed starters could be BAE, Bale and Adebayor. Everyone else under fierce competition.

Fingers crossed, that it's only a two year deal, anything more than that is slightly excessive. Good price, tbh.

Fuck.

I rate Parker, but that would clearly mean we're not getting Diarra, who in my opinion is a better player, and much younger.

Parker might be good for one..maybe two seasons.

Hope this is wrong.

I agree, clutching that we might get Diarra as well.

If it helps in terms of getting us back into the top 4 its well worth it though.

No idea how accurate this is, but the Independent isn't bad...certainly better than the rags which I would of dismissed quicker.

The guy who wrote the article tweeted earlier though I think, interesting to see if any other credibile sources follow up.

I personally think its a very good signing for us. Harry has always said we lack real characters in thea team and Parker would do that. He is a true leader and is also a YID at heart.

Remember this last season?

How many current spurs players can you see doing something like that?

Also on the field he is an all round midfielder with an eye for goal.

I mean can you imagine playing away from home with parker and sandro in the middle of the park. I know our defensive unit would feel a lot safer, I know I def will!
