He would cost a lot more than Barkley
Use Draxler to force Everton to sell Barkey at our price or keep Barkley and his wages for another season. Or buy Draxler for the €50 mil PSG would most likely take for him. I think Draxler could be a good target for a couple of reasons.

It would make sense though, wouldn't it? I assume his price would be around 30M and it would solve our playmaking forward with pace search. Hell, give'em 50 and take Aurier and we would be sorted.
I suspect Draxler would cost a bit more than £30m, but maybe I'm wrong.

Fresh Ross Barkley injury complicates summer transfer

Ross Barkley is facing the prospect of a lengthy lay-off of up to 12 weeks with Everton increasingly resigned to the midfielder requiring surgery on a serious hamstring injury.

Everton are awaiting a final decision, but an operation is now likely and would further complicate the future of Barkley who has been a target for the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea in the transfer window.

Barkley broke down with the injury last week as he sought to step up his comeback following surgery on a double hernia, which had already disrupted his pre-season plans.

While the recovery period following a hamstring operation is three months, it is unlikely that the 23-year-old will be back in his best condition, and match fit, until January given the difficulties that have beset his build-up to the new campaign.

The England international has turned down contract offers from Everton having seen his relationship with manager Ronald Koeman become strained, reaching the point last season where the player confronted him over repeated public criticism of his performances.

Everton have so far stuck doggedly to a £50 million valuation for Barkley, who has less than a year remaining on his contract, and that has precluded interest turning to firm bids from suitors.

Despite the injury, there remains a willingness from clubs to try and do a deal in this transfer window if the price is right given they would be buying Barkley for the long-term.

Yet there is no sign so far of Everton compromising on their asking price for the homegrown talent despite knowing they risk losing him for free next summer when he will be available for nothing.

If this is true, we need another option

Would he pass a medical?
Medicals are flexible, you can always pass a medical. I think the club are mainly on the look out for long term problems, not one off injuries. Obviously they will assess to see if this could kill his career at all, but unlikely.

If we can negotiate the price then it still makes sense to bring him in now as opposed to in January. He can get used to his surroundings, staff and team mates and most importantly Poch can educate him on our tactics and what's expected of him. That should give him a better shot at hitting the ground running once he's back fit.

The injury news is weird. It's almost best part of a working week and there is no real insight into his injury as of yet. Normally with these things we know within a couple of days the severity of the injury.

Saying that it is as only been three days but it feels much longer than that.

If we bring in another forward we can cope without him until October. We're signing him for the long term not on a season long loan deal.

This is a no win situation for Spurs. He'll be worthless for us this season. Months to recover, months to get up to speed, and no easy cup games to earn a spot. I'd be happy to buy him for the future, but unless his price drops dramatically, I think we need to move on.

Honestly, if I were Barkley's management, I'd start looking for options where he has a chance to play as soon as he recovers. He needs playing time to get to Russia. I could see a Van Djik to Liverpool, Barkley to Southampton being possible.

The only other option is to wait it out. If he only wants to play at Spurs, then he'll be here on a free next summer. But I'm guessing if we let him rot at Everton, he's not going to be too fond of us.

Whoever wrote that should have finished it with "possibly maybe, at least that's what I think might be the case".
