We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement for the transfer of Robbie Keane back to the Club from Liverpool. Personal terms have been agreed and a medical completed.

The Irish international captain made 254 appearances in our colours in all competitions during his first spell between August 2002 and July 2008, during which time he scored 107 goals, before leaving to join Liverpool.

"We never wanted Robbie to leave in the summer, we acknowledged the six years dedicated service he gave this Club and reluctantly let him go. I am delighted that he has chosen to return to us. We can all recall the passion and fight he displayed during his previous seasons with us. I know he is determined to give us his full commitment," said Daniel Levy, Chairman.

Robbie has this to say on his return, "It was a difficult decision to make to leave Tottenham in the summer. It proved not to be the right move for me. I know some Spurs fans will feel I let them down by leaving but I can assure them I shall be giving my all for this Club - this Club has terrific fans and I want to repay them for all their support. We've got to get on and fight our way up that league table."

The 28-year-old began his professional career with Wolverhampton Wanderers where he hit 29 goals in 88 games, before making the move to Coventry City in August 1999 for a then British record fee for a teenager.

His one season at Highfield Road brought 12 goals in 34 games and earned him a move to Inter Milan the following summer. The forward spent 18 months at the San Siro before moving back to England with Leeds United following a successful loan spell, bagging 19 goals in 56 games in total during a year-and-a-half spell at Elland Road.

The holder of 85 caps for Ireland and 35 goals, making him the Republic's all-time record scorer, returns to White Hart Lane following six months at Anfield where he scored seven goals in 28 appearances.

I'd say that both Woodgate and Dawson are more worthy, far more worthy. And would put more on the line for the club than Keane ever would.

i really dont understand where you are coming from here.

i never saw Keane give anything other than everything he had - home or away, big game or small game, lots at stake, or nothing at stake.

there were also many times when he has been the only player shouting encouragement, organising the team, and pulling things together when we were losing it. He never stops!

if you dont like the way he left i can understand that, but that shouldnt detract from his leadership qualities.

Woodie, as much as i love him, doesnt strike me as being a particularly vocal player. Re Dawson - could be a good captain, but not as good as Keano!

I don't like the way he left, after saying he loved the club, and didn't want to go anywhere. He's a limited player, and is no way in the same league as Greaves or Sheringham.

No player should be given the armband after screwing the club as he did.

Add that to the fact that I'd rather have a captain in defence or midfield.

I'm sorry, but Keano is far from limited.

I was as pissed off as the next man in the manner in which he left, but I understood why he went.

It was a mistake, he even admits it, we should forgive him, forget it, and sit back and watch the next 100 goals fly in.

Starting with Sunday. :dance::up:

welcome home Robbie, prove me wrong please.

Same

Robbie Keane is going to me for me, what Darren Bent is to most of the cocksuckers on here.

I'm gonna be on his back from the start and it's going to take a lot to persuade me.

Well I'm louder than you, and if I hear you being a **** about it at the ground, I guarantee I will shout louder than you - and I reckon I'll have the backing of 36,000 others.

Robbie said, "I saw a chance to earn more money and win some medals, so forced the club into selling me against their wishes, but it turned out I was shit at Liverpool, and that actually infact I never wanted to go in the first place and always loved Spurs"

Can he at least pretend not to treat us like idiots?

Can't wait to see what he says in his first press conference.

I hear all the bakers in North London have received urgent requests for a lorry load of humble pies.
