The was an article a while back where it said that Real want us to pay more of his wages if he stays a second year. That might be a game changer if true.

If his good form continous to end of season, perhaps it's not unreasonable to split his 600,000/week with RM; with an understanding with Bale that in the next 12 months, Spurs will still be paying him 200,000/week, with the outstanding amount being paid as part of the signing-on fee if Spurs deem that he's worthy of a new contract once his RM one expires.

Ally G's latest video (from 10 mins). Believes we have first dibs on a 2nd season loan, plus this is on the same terms.

I wonder what mourinho thinks about this.
He of course rather the money had been spent on a senior left sided CB - he made this clear at the time without disputing Bale's quality.
And he was proved right - our defence has most likely cost us a place in the CL.

Bale may well win us a minor trophy this season, but Mourinho's message will be the same this summer - if you want to compete at the top, the defence needs fixing. If there are limited funds, that's where the money needs to go.

Ally Gold mentions it in his latest video. Says we still have first dibs and on the same terms as current deal

edit: I see someone has already posted his video.

That's £20m difference over a year, it's a huge difference.
It is a big difference, but I think the point is it's not going to affect his lifestyle, or his future security unless he's crap with money. It will be numbers in a bank account. Either way, he and his family will never have to work again in their life (in ten lifetimes).

Yes, but the question is whether we would have him here on a permanent transfer for next season, if the alternative is that he goes back to Real Madrid. For next season, he may be forced to choose between a substantial pay cut and regular first team football at Tottenham, or megabucks and the bench at Real.
Just as Bale won't have the option of a £600k contract in 2022, Real won't have the option of getting Bale off they wage bill until 2022.

The only incentive for us to sign him permanently this summer would be to tie him down with a contract beyond 2022, so that no one can poach him on free transfer. He'll be 33 in summer 2022, so I don't think there's a huge risk of anyone blowing us out the water with a massive deal.

We would take him on loan next season, not a permenent transfer. I can't see us offering to buy him in the summer when we can get him cheaper by loaning him if he wants to stay another year. We may even have an option for a 2nd year on the same terms (edit - see AllyG vid below).

If he choses to go back to Real next season then he won't need a pay cut as they'll still be paying him 100% of his wages. Likewise if he goes out on loan to us or anyone else for the final year of his contract he won't be getting a pay cut whilst Real still own him.
That's all correct, but is sideways to what I was discussing, which is what could happen if Real Madrid had the right to recall him. I don't know, but others have subsequently stated with some force that they do not have the unilateral right to terminate the loan.

If they do have that right, then Bale has the choice that I described.

From a business stand point, he should return and sit in Madrids bench, he did nothing to be dropped and has been treated as a pariah after doing everything asked of him. From a fans perspective, this new front 4 fully clicking, we don't win the the league, we take it.

I think I've made my stance fairly clear on this issue. I had an impeccable source on all this prior to him coming and was told then it was a rolling contract.

So where are the rumours coming from? Well it is certainly in Madrid's best interest to sell him in the Summer. My guess is that they believe if they can attract the right clubs Bale may choose to not come back next season of say City or PSG etc show an interest.

Considering I was getting very regular updates of everything that was going on(which was all bang on the money btw) I see no reason to not believe the information regarding the extension and terms wouldn't be spot on as well.

At this point for him can there really be any difference between 600k a week and 200k a week? Him and his family are set for life a hundred times over.. always baffles me this salary milking..
It's got beyond the point where we're just talking about the individual player. The whole transfer business feeds so many other hangers-on. In this case, Jonathan Barnett's Stellar Group Limited are clearly taking a very significant wedge. (You can't argue that Barnett doesn't earn his keep, though. He managed to convince Everton that Jordan Pickford was worth £30 million!)

For me, looking at the Bale situation within the club, would they have waited or allowed this length of time to allow Bale to get up to fitness and speed to put him into the team if they didn’t think he would be here next season.

As a club spurs may not be paying all of Bale’s wages, but for spurs it’s still a hell of a lot, would the club be doing that if there was little or no chance of him being here next season?
