Real Madrid could be left with a huge administrative headache if Tottenham decide against making Gareth Bale's loan move a permanent one.
The 31-year-old received a hero's welcome when he returned to Spurs last summer but his second stint at the club has been disappointing to say the least.
This could be a big problem for Real due to the fact that the Welshman would return as a non-EU player as a result of the UK leaving the European Union.

Why would we want to sign him? He hasn't shown anything to warrant the massive wages he is on. If he wants to take a pay cut then maybe but I think the money would be better spent elsewhere.

Pay cut to what though? Would you sign him for 30k a week? In over half a season I see can't even that being warranted. I'd rather give the game time to an improving kid, and it's hard to imagine them contributing less than Bale has so far.

I'm a bit confused by this. We have the option to take him on another season long loan at the same terms as now. Why would A/ we pay more for him than we currently have to, and B/ Bale not want to continue getting his full salary he's currently on.

No one is suggesting either of them will happen. The whole article is typical DM faux-astonishment. "Huge administrative headache" = they just won't register him, and therefore won't use him just as they barely used him last season if they can't find anyone else to take him.

Why would the fact that he's non-EU be a HUGE issue when they're not going to play him anyway?

I assume Levy will go back and wring a further discount based in Bale’s performance so far, IF we decide to keep him.

I'd bite your hand off for 30k a week. Which improving kid can play in the positions Bale can, out of interest?

It's interesting that the article is written from the point of view that it'd be a problem for RM, rather than us! I desperately want him to succeed and stay with us, but even if that happened don't we face the same issue with player registration?

That's what I don't get. A lot of players price themselves out of a move and just sit on the bench. I remember when Lassana Diarra moved to Pompey, because he wanted to PLAY. What happened next? Real Madrid happened. Bale has already earned more money than his next three generations would be capable of spending. I think he would be able to survive on a measley 20k a week - that's close to a million pounds a year! Puts things into perspective as far as wages go.

How so? He's British.

I think the question here is whether Spurs will want to exercise the option to extend for another season? In which case he will be Madrid's "problem" to deal with.

If I could, I would. I don't really know much about the kids to be honest, but my point was more about how little Bale has done. He hasn't played like an experienced pro, and given the kind of games he's featured in I don't think it'd be a huge downgrade to play an u23 and see what he can offer. This is assuming Bale doesn't improve, and from what I'v seen I don't anticipate it.

I suspect there's a touch of 'kicking the foreigners' about this. Given it's the Mail.
