How the sweet fuck can people slate Son and Cliton being thrown into a second string team in their first few matchs and expecting miracles, so fucking dumb it's unreal. Rating should be NET.

To stand a chance of a result Caroll should have been off instead of Dier, Poch has to bear the brunt of this loss.

Was amased Carroll stayed on when Alli came on. Thought he'd replace him

Have never liked Carroll. Tonight didn't change my opinion on him, especially the 1st 75mins!

Really disappointed with Poch making 8 changes against a top 4 team he said he was desperate to beat

As someone said made absolutely no sense playing Hugo & Toby v carrier bag and Vorm and Fazio v the scum

We need to beat City Saturday now. No problem!!!

Carroll was ok, but I don't see him really ever being much better than a Joe Allen, and he is a perennial bench warmer for a 6-7th place side at his peak. But, I guess that is what Carroll can be (or indeed already is??)

Said he was a poor mans Joe Allen 2 seasons ago. He hasn't improved...

Not that it makes me happy but TC did the square root of fuck all again tonight. He'll never drop a bollock but eh, what does he offer exactly that you'd want in a CM?

Marks space well, bounces around well. Decent hair cut, bit like Jamie Redknapp when he was with us. What more do you want?

It's not like he's a 'bad' player. But he seemed to have more about him when he played assnal in the cup a few years back than he does now. I'm thinking that for him to have any chance of adding to his game or improving he's at the age where he needs regular football and frankly, I doubt it will be with us considering what his current game offers.

Wasn't even angry really. Fairly even game. First 20 minutes we looked a superior team and conceded slightly against the run of play. Only weak link initially I thought was Rose who then went on to become our best player. Arsenal had the better of the 2nd part of the first half as Dier struggled to continue the dominance he had earlier in the game. 2nd half again we were better in general again and conceded a freak goal. The important things i could see were that Dier looks a real player, Eriksen was on the mend, NJie looks exactly like the kind of player we need and Kane towards the end started to lose his stress over scoring and started to play for the team. I think that with Vertonghen, Alderweirheld, Lloris, Alli back in the starting XI we'll be far more of a unit to play than the one put out today.

Fuck me, the scapegoating of Carroll is pathetic. He provided drive and impetus and tried to make things happen - it doesn't always come off but at least he tries and play the ball forward. Painful to read
This is the problem, people complain about us not opening teams up but when someone tries to make an incisive pass and it doesn't come off they get slatted. A lot of assists are probably 50 50 passes that just evade a defender, but if a player tries one and the defender intercepts they are shit.

That is one of the worst posts and observations of a player I have read on this site

The Poch giveth and the Poch taketh away

I thoroughly enjoyed 70 minutes of that game. It had a wonderful intensity and though it was hard to pick out a stand-out performer it was also hard to pick out any wankers either. In an intense game like that there will be errors, but all things considered, the sides picked by both coaches etc, I really enjoyed the way we went about things and for 70 minutes we were clearly the more assertive side, the side driving the game. Sure, the usual players did some of the usual frustrating things at times, but when everyone works like this, gives this energy and you see them working the way you believe is the way Pochettino wants us to play, pressing together, pressing high, and taking the game to one of the best footballing sides in the country, I find myself feeling more forgiving of those usually irritating peccadilloes.

So Poch and his ideals gave us a great, high octane 70 minutes of the kind of football I want to watch. So I thank him very much for this.

But then Pochettino did what Pochettino has a habit of doing. Shooting himself up the arse with one of his in game tactical subs. There are so many times when we are watching Spurs and thinking "come on Poch, make the change" but tonight it was the opposite, we were well on top, Arsenal were rattled, and it wasn't Sanchez coming on that changed anything. It was the Pochettino making the sub. First thing it did was kill our momentum, also taking Townsend off, who IMO was having one of his rare good games when, If anyone, it should have been Chadli (who was having less influence on the game despite whacking the ball at Chambers for the goal and would have meant a more logical like for like swap keeping Son as ALM) but the biggest fuck up of all was moving the excellent and constantly involved Eriksen out to ARM to accommodate Son. All of a sudden we lost our focal point, Eriksen wasn't doing anything spectacular but was always involved in the game, constantly providing a conduit between the midfield and attack, now he was marginalised. Son was actually awful the whole time he was on, making two passes in 24 minutes, giving the ball away several times and just wasn't prepared for the frenetic nature of the game and lacked composure in anything he did.

From the moment that first tactical change and switch around was made we never recovered our joie de vivre. We couldn't get Eriksen on the ball, Arsenal had their best 10 minute spell, and even after they scored we couldn't get a grip back on the reins of the game and build some momentum until the final death throws of the game when it was all too late.

I'm not going to do individual stuff. No one in the starting eleven was perfect, all made some small mistakes but everyone one of them deserve credit for the energy, pressure and application they applied, and much of the football they played in what was a very engrossing and enjoyable 70 minutes of a game we deserved to win.

I'm surprised at the multitude of positive ratings for Dier. I'm a massive fan of him at CM and think he's been outstanding this season but I thought he was poor in this game. Let players get past him too often and didn't have the same passing ability he's had in recent games; to be fair to him though , he looked tired.

The first goal was just as much his fault as it was Vorm's as well; he really should have done better in that challenge by either playing it more conservative and blocking off the opportunity for the shot or actually winning the ball when he fully committed. He over-committed, didn't win it and left the player in miles of space.

As for the others, Rose was easily our best, Vorm and Fazio incredibly poor and I thought Son was absolutely atrocious when he came on; continually miss-controlling the ball and when he had it he was too selfish, trying to dribble through everyone instead of spreading it to our best crosser in Trippier when he was in acres of space. If that was Lamela who had of performed like Son he would have been copping it something fierce.

I think last night just about confirmed to me that we have managed to assemble over the last 2 or 3 season a very average squad that may see one or two become half decent.

Our general play is turgid, lacking width, conviction and creativity.

I see people love to hate Fazio, but it's a matter of counting only wrongs and no rights. When one masters the air like he does, one will stop 1 goal in nigh any match in the English game. It's a shame that he also messes up every game, but his best moments are too easily forgotten.

Same old tottenham.....

We did ok looked the better and more attacking side for most of the match. Passed it ok at times but again hardly created fuck all.. I keep coming away from games feeling the same.

Arsenal were not great we gifted them two goals but they did look up for it and were set up well.

From were I was sitting it looked like it was fazio, dier and vorm fault for the goal. Fazio gave it away dier lost his man, and vorm should of done better with the shot. Will have to watch it back.

I thought carol actually done ok. Bit lightweight at times and gave it away silly but made some smart balls and grew in thr game

Vorm 5
Trippier 6.5
Fazio 5
Wimmer 6
Rose 7.5
Dier 7
Carroll 6
Chadli 6.5
Eriksen 7.5
Townsend 5.5
Kane 7

Subs NET although all three struggled to get up to the speed of the game quick enough.

Poch - 5 - Really suprised at selection but was prepared to give benefit of doubt until afterwards. Best case scenario he put his faith in a team and some individuals who were not up to speed and let him down (Fazio, Vorm, Townsend) which seems likely considering we didn't actually play that poorly except for the obvious mistakes.

Worst case scenario he disrespected the club with his selection for what is probably the only cup we could have won this season and the fans by showing no understanding of what an NLD of any kind means to us. As I said in the other thread that was the worst Arsenal team I've ever seen win at the Lane.

What is still a big concern for me either way is that in the opposition's final third we go to statues and have no killer instinct.

Chadli and Townsend don't help with their one footedness and constant desire to cut across the full back, effectivley going backwards at times and letting their back four reorganise themselves. Eriksen will make a difference in this department over the course of a season and once Kane breaks his duck so will he but this is an issue over two seasons or more now, hopefully Son, N'Jie and a revitalised Lamela will provide the answers...

If Davies strolls back in to our XI on Saturday I'm going to cry. Now Rose has a couple of games under his belt there's no reason he shouldn't be first-choice again.

Gold...............Rose
Silver..............Eriksen
Bronze...........Trippier, Wimmer,Carroll,Dier,Townsend.Kane,Chadli,
Lead...............Fazio, Vorm, Son.

Strange selection that nearly worked but for a couple of inches from Harry's volley.
But Vorm v Arsenal and Hugo v Qarabag?
Shows Pochettinos priorities.
Win on Saturdayand all will be forgiven, though not forgotten
You could have predicted that Flamini, the forgotten man at Arsenal
and who has never scored twice for them would be the match winner.

fazio and carroll with less than 70% pass completion is not good enough.

Not scapegoating - you just cannot give the ball away that often and expect not get to punished.

I am struggling this season, I feel people are going overboard both ways about are performances.

I don't think we played well tonight or particularly well all season.

We aren't creating many chances at all, I think we lack skill and guile in the attacking 1/3.

In defence we are too easy to get at and opponents are creating chances.

Conservative possession in our own half is deceiving.
