Dawson had some genuinely shocking moments, BC.

I'd agree with everything you said there.

Agreed, but then he generally does.

I really am not a Michael Dawson fan, and wouldn't care if he left tomorrow. In the (4 minutes of) highlights I've seen, the thing that stood out for me was some woeful defending from Daws which would have killed us off if Newcastle had clinical finishers.

Cudicini 6 - Poor for goal, and didnt give me much confidence, although pulled off a couple of good saves to keep us in it at 1-0

Hutton 5 - Did ok going forward without any real quality in delivery, but was poor in defansive duties and sould have killed the chance that provided goal.

Gallas 7 - Ok performance, without ever nullifying the toon attack

Dawson 6 - Generally ok, no better, exposed several times, but never lacks for effort.

Bale - Not on long enough to rate, and certainly a massive loss to us on the day.

Lennon 7 - Fairly good perfromance without actually killing the toon off, lacked quality on delivery, fantastic drive and finish at the end to earn us a draw.

Jenas 5 - Wastefull in possesion.

Modric 8 MOTM - Was the quality in the spurs team yesterday, always looking for the ball, setting the tempo for the team and looking to create, unlucky to see shot come back off the bar in the second half.

Pienaar 5 - Looked what it was, his first match with a new team, who he has had little training with.

VDV 6 - Not his usual self, certainly tried hard enough, but nothing really came off for him.

Defoe 5 - Again tried hard enough, but didnt effect the game as much as we would have hoped

Bassong 7 - Solid

Crouch 6 - Added a different dimension to the game, and aided us getting back into it.

Kranjcar 5 - Just doesn't look the player he was last season, looks sluggish and needing of game time to open up his vision again.

Overall, a poor perfromance, we had plenty of the ball, but didn't do enough with it, and looked exectly what everyone has been saying, ie lacking of a cutting edge up top.

Trying not to be too hard on Pienaar, as it was his first game and he has had so little time to get used to his colleagues, and i am sure that he will settle and improve. However, with all that said, i just can't see him being anything more than a good squad player, which is no problem at the amount we have paid, but he must be on fair wages and must expect some semblance of chance in the first team. The thought of him replacing Bale is just impossible, and i am sure Lennon can offer the team more also. Lets see how he adapts, and i hope he is that consistent backup we need as certainly Kranjcar is not proving it.

The other notable aspect to the match yesterday for me was that the Defoe/VDV partnership didn't work against the toon, i guess it needs some game time to see whether it can be developed, but it certainly doesn't look a natural fit, so since there is less than 10 days to go, i would certainly worry if we don't resolve our misfiring striker problem.

Just my take, and left more questions than answers.

Yeah I'll just pretend that we dominated Newcastle and were the better side .... I was sat with the Geordie fans and even they were surprised at how poor we were.

Yeah cos sitting with the opposition fans never clouds your judgement.

LOL that's brilliant!

Everybody knows that the Geordies are thickest twats going, are you saying that some of them managed to string a sentence together at some point?

Oh, and yes I am a spurs fan ... try watching the whole match and then justify your comments that we apparently played well. We had a lot of the ball in spells but with no penetration.

Er the whole match was on in pubs all over London.

Your summing up is shite, perhaps you should go and watch Middlesboro, then you'll know what shite looks like!
Having just watched a recording of the game with benefit of replays and slow motion, I have to agree with you. We were not as bad as most have made out. In fact the various negative posts on this thread really misrepresented how we played. Considering we were pplaying at St james park ( a fortress even for the best) with a team that had to be re jiggled including a player who was making his debut, we have played worse this season and a draw was a fair result. Our left side which usually employed Bale and the much underated BAE is the cause of 75% of our success in recent games where both out injured, VDV who usually plays off Bale although he wasnt all that bad, defoe wasnt given enough credit with the runs he was making off the ball and closing down when needed, Jenas has played much worse. I will see Pienaar making alot eat their words or humble pie very soon. You guys need a reality check, despite our mini success in the last year or so, we are not Barcleona, at least not yet!

I thought we controlled the first 25 mins, without too much goal threat, and then threw everything at them the last 20..in between we let a poor toon side back in the game and could have lost.

Carlo 5 not good enough to be our no.2

Hutton 5 gets forward well, but has no real class, same today, and goal down to him.

Gallas 6 wasn't bad, a few dodgy clearences started us panicking.

Dawson 6 like gallas ok, but pace always does him...a worry.

Bassong 6 not a LB, and it showed.offered no overlaps at all.defended ok.

Lennon 7 harshly critised here, i thought he and luka our best players.

Luka 8 worked his socks off , and was let down by others.kept proding us forward.

jj 5 poor, though not through lack of effort.hard to define his role today.

peanaar 6 worked hard, but nothing special, will improve i'm sure.looked a little lost.

Defoe 5 poor today, looks unfit needs a goal to lift him.i would stick with him though.

Vdv 5 worked harder than given credit, but had an off day.was too deep all day.

crouch 6 flicked header for goal, nothing else.

Just got back from an excellent weekend up Newcastle. Modric was MOTM for me. He looks a different class to everyone on the pitch

I just saw the game again on Football First, he looked better when I saw it second time round! 8.5 for me, great performance even if he was a little hit and miss on delivery

It is actually quite unusual for us to comprehensively outpass a team like that, it's good to see, the more of the ball we have the more damage our best players can do, unfortunately yesterday that didn't quite work out, but encouraging nonetheless.

I fail to see how a team that completes around 200 more passes than the opposition can hve less possession, I reckon BBC have just got that arse about face.

What did you mean when you said we comprehensively outpassed them? That we completed a lot more passes than them or that we played them off the park? Maybe I got my wires crossed.

And everyone down south are Southern Softies??? (as referred to by the northerners) .... not that I'm that judgemental.

Every town/city has its idiots ... may be you should judge them as your way off the mark.

I haven't seen the game, so I really can't pass comment on what happened but the fact we completed double (just checked Guardian Chalkboard) the amount of passes then I think it's fair to say we comprehensively outpassed them, it would appear however that we failed to cause sufficient damage with the amount of the ball we had.

But as I said, I should really retreat back into my cave because it's fucking hard commenting on a game you haven't seen, except lots of blue lines on a stats website!
