We only have four pre-season games for the squad to get minutes. Someone will miss out here and there. I wouldn't read anything into it.

After about a month he will be , baffling how many people on here think he won’t become first choice. Emerson is a poor rwb and Doherty has had about 5 good games his whole time with us ?

5 good games when playing about 5 games in a system that suits him and the midfield was sorted.

Not saying Spence can't make RWB his, but Doherty will do well there again also.

True, but Spence has pace and power that Doherty could only dream of. Time will tell I guess.

Not sure where else to put this other than in this thread as it was their friendly. Southampton getting ready to face us by also playing 5 at the back but with two up top, which we struggled with in the same home fixture last season. It’s gonna be a tough game, I really wish we were playing a different side as their manager will have them drilled for it with so much time to prepare.

Yeah hate playing Saints. I'm not sure if it's a coincidence or if our system suits them, but they've tended to look really up for it and played well against us recently.

They're the single most Jeckyll and Hyde team in the league. Very good on their day when everyone is pressing, but pure dogshit when they're not on it. We need go hope we catch them on an off-day.

well I think last season we were hindered by a real lack of options from off the bench. It was too early for Bentancur and Kulsevski to really make a difference as they were essentially thrown in to adapt.

But those 2 are now adjusted, and if we start with a similar 11 to last year, we will be able to bring on Bissouma, Spence, Lenglet and Perisic - different players that can really put the opposition on the back foot (as we couldn't do that vs them last time) just a shame we can't add Richarlison to those changes as he would be a great player to bring on.

Agree with this, although crucially we will also ample time to prepare for Saints which is the most important. Last year we only had 1 and 3 days recovery time between games ahead of Saints which I think was a key part in only gaining one point.

Yeah definitely. IIRC we were without Dier when we lost 3-2 at home - I recall Sanchez and Royal doing poorly for the 2 late goals. Our 11 will be much stronger for this game with about 5 or 6 better players starting.

Saints were SO on it that game, though, and could've been out of sight in the first half. One of the best performances from an away team all season. Then a few weeks later they were looking sloppy, disjointed and getting pumped by much worse teams. They're just a weird team and alternate between runs of great performances and absolutely terrible ones.

Enjoyed the game and was impressed.
Higher quality in contention and fight for places
has given us some extra edge.
Romero outstanding.
Dier good overall.
Sonny and Kane show continues.
All the newcomers made their points
and staked their claims.
Need to brush weaker teams,
including Southampton, aside.
Top four and a trophy upcoming
Is this supposed to be a poem?

Sadly, there was some crowd trouble after which four men were arrested for attacking some police with 'street furniture' whatever the fuck that means. The news failed to tell us which set of fans were responsible, but I'm sure some of us have our own suspicions.

This was before the game I believe. Footage I have seen I couldn't see any football tops (rangers or spurs) but did hear yid being shouted, but doesn't mean it was our fans.

I could be mistaken, but the way I understood that comment was different.

They had just been discussing their run out against West Ham the other night and, the way I took it, were stating that Kane was the only difference between us and the spammers (being the 2 sides).

If I'm correct on that, it was an even worse crime and the commentators should be burnt at the stake!
if I missed that in translation I apologise
