I can’t bring myself to title the thread Race for the Title because I’m not feeling that positive. However while I’m mad as hell at our transfer window I still think we have enough to get CL again and I suspect that is all our owners care about now. Liverpool aside I think our main competitors for CL have had pretty poor windows too.

City - must be favourites for the title again and have only added Mahrez. While he is a good player I don’t see him adding much that they didn’t already have. The only negative for them could be a fixation from the owners on the CL.

United - I very much doubt Mourinho lasts the season. His entire demeanour is screaming “get me out of here so I’m not humiliated again by Pep”. Added Fred which might help their midfield but still lots of issues elsewhere in the team they’ve haven’t addressed.

Spurs - no additions. Young players a year more experienced, Poch might extract some more from the group by another change of formation. Last summer’s signings might make more of a contribution this time. Some players returning from injury. Negatives - lots of tired players coming back from WC, Dembele getting older and more injury prone, are the Toby and Rose situations really resolved just because they are still here ?

Liverpool - can’t really argue they have strengthened, have they done enough to overtake City ? I doubt it. Could they overtake us ? Maybe.

Chelsea - a club in turmoil again. Not really managed to address their squad issues in the window. Think they struggle this season.

Goons - their window is reminiscent of a Spurs window of a few years ago, lots but little quality. Prima facie they struggle but the wild card is the Emery effect, not sure how that pans out.

Others - don’t see any other team breaking into the top 6. Everton spending like maniacs again, I expect similar poor results.

Bottom line I think this season is very much status quo with the top 4 unchanged and City champions again.
How was this for a set of pre-season predictions ?

Arsenal and Chelsea are picking up points at just under 2 points per game. At this rate 5 more wins would give us a very good chance of top 4. Incredible season considering it feels like, we haven’t got out of 3rd gear too often

A few more goals for City and Trigger Happy Roman probably fires Sarri in the morning. Then we probably get to laugh at the “dream team” of Lampard, Terry and Morris. Oh please bring it on.

Realistically i see chelsea or arse winning 8 of their last 12 maximum perhaps a draw too. That gives them 75pts max which means we need 15 to match with a better gd. 5 wins from 12 should be doable even with a dreaded collapse.

Kovacic

Remember when this place was up in arms because we didnt get him?!

I think this just highlights Poch's point about adding to the squad. Neither Kovacic or Gomes would have greatly improved us.

They play City in that final in 2 weeks time.. then us in mid week. Looking forward to that and the fatigue on their end.

Just done my first run in predictor of the year.

1 - City 96pts +76GD
2 - Liverpool 96pts +63GD
3 - Spurs 88pts +44GD
4 - Utd 78pts +30GD
5 - Chelsea 76pts +27GD
6 - Arsenal 73pts +28GD

It's completely in our hands but it is too much of a tall order IMO. We need to beat City, Chelsea and Liverpool away and Arsenal at home to win the title. The above has us beating Chelsea and Arsenal but losing against City and Liverpool. Realistically, we have to win every single remaining game.

We wouldn't definitely need to win all three of those away games.

Why are you assuming that our rivals arnt going to drop any points?

It's a tall order yes, but we don't have to win all three of those tough away games.
