Legendary boxing trainer Emanuel Steward has died of cancer at a Chicago hospital at the age of 68.
He made his name in the early 1980s when he turned Tommy Hearns into one of the most feared fighters of his generation.
His Kronk Gym in Detroit attracted some of boxing's brightest stars in subsequent years and Steward guided Lennox Lewis to the undisputed heavyweight title.
Steward handled 43 world champions during his time, more than any other trainer in history, which led to his status growing into one of the best corner men of all time.
He also turned Wladimir Klitschko into the unbeatable force he is today by improving his technique and tightening his defence.
However he had recently undergone surgery for a stomach illness and had not been well enough to assist the Ukrainian's upcoming title defence on November 10 against Mariusz Wach.
Steward's family had gathered at his hospital bedside and his sister Diane Steward-Jones said: "He has passed - he's gone home.
"He was in no pain, and we sang to him, as well as did the doctors present. He had loved ones with him. He gave it his all, but he's been called away now."
Steward ended his amateur career with a record of 94 wins and three losses and was an inductee of the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame.
