It would, but then Brentford would take legal action.
He shouldn't have been involved in something like this to begin with and he shouldn't have been allowed to play whilst this was going on.

The fact a few of these months have zero football is a joke and makes it meaningless.

Was the ban outcome always due today? As I wonder what would have happened if other PL title was due to go to the last day, would they still have dragged it out past then so they didn't help city with him missing Vs them?!

A bit OTT no? I dont know the ins and outs but seems a bit OTT all this. I mean to miss five months of the season seems OTT and not just that it punishes Brentford too. I think a fine (a big fine if you want to have a massive punishment) and call it quits. Gambling on his own team though would be a different question if so, then discount what I have said.

I 100% agree with Max Rushden on this.

It’s been a problem for a while. Not just in football either. TV is full of betting adverts before during and after games. Bingo/casino sites on every single ad break any other time.

I think the premier league have agreed to phase out shirt sponsors in the next couple of years though.

Clubs affected by his turning out for his club whilst under the threat of suspension should sue the FA/PL. The delay in suspending him is just plain wrong.
Said it from the start but this absolutely stinks, this should have been dealt with months ago, the evidence was as clear as day.
I’ve just had a look and he has personally picked up 16 points with his goals this season which would leave Brentford level on points with West Ham.
If someone goes down on the basis that Toney scored against them, especially after the allegations came out and the total inaction of the PL until today, it’ll be really interesting to see what relegated clubs and also clubs chasing Europe might do.
His goals have directly led to Brentford taking:
1 point off Leeds
1 point of Citeh
2 points off us
2 points off arse
1 point off forest
2 off villa
2 off Brighton
It’s got Mascharano/Tevez written all over it.

Well that was fun, I managed to post this in last season’s CL thread somehow…

“After completing a 3-0 aggregate win over fierce rivals AC Milan, Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti was quick to state his preference of avoiding record 14-time champions Real.

"I would like to avoid Real Madrid because the competition seems made for them," former captain Zanetti said.”

Looks like you’re in luck Javi, me ol’ mucker.
And now you've put it in this season's PL thread. Third time's a charm?

Yes this is true - and yes, they were very selective on the VAR recordings to ensure that Howard (and VAR) wasn't put under any real scrutiny.
It was their first time doing this and it was done during a season. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until August to develop the format to use weekly. If they still just give the selective clips of decisions they get right then I'll be the first one to call out Webb.

Which, as commonly happens when talking about how a players goals affects results/points, ignores the fact that if he wasn’t playing, Brentford wouldn’t be playing with 10 men, they’d have a replacement. Given that they’ve won two and drawn one (which was a last min equaliser against them) I think it’s safe to say that whilst they might not have gained 16 points, they certainly wouldn’t have lost every match.

It seems that Toney was afforded a bit of due process here, including a personal hearing, before an independent commission - which probably explains a bit of the delay from when the charges were first announced, and Toney filed hi written response.

The rules are hard and clear on footballers/people at football clubs and gambling and have been clear for sometime so he can't plead ignorance/stupidity on this. (1)

Depends what he's been found guilty of betting on (2) if he's been betting on anything that can influence a Brentford game and anything he can directly influence then I'd argue he's not got a longer ban TBH.
Anything can influence a football match, if he was just betting on throw ins or first foul etc, little things like giving away throw-ins or cheap fouls it alters passages of play.

Until it's made public we won't know how harsh it is; I'm all for due process but if any of them fall under influencing games he played in then he should've been suspended. IMHO

I've mentioned it before but I found an Irish stream for one or two of our matches and there were zero gambling adverts on it and it was such a breathe of fresh air.

I hate the gambling industry (I wish Spurs as a club would bin off any gambling partners too) if they're going to continue allowing the adverts then in this day and age there should be a way of opting out of them appearing on your device e.g set top boxes, one big off option and in it's place you receive an advert for bog roll or something. I can see no sound technical reason that's not an option 6these days.
In the event they say that can't be done I'd absolutely make them do away with the adverts that make it all fun fun fun and catchy jingles.

When my nephew was about 8 or something (he's football mad and now a teenager) he'd often sing-along to these fucking jingles and way day he was watching a game on his mobile (which he's also addicted too) looked up at half time and said to his dad "Oh look team A is 6/1 to win, that's a good bet!" then he sung along again to the jingle IIRC it was a lad brooks one that looked like a cartoon!

Oh and that's before I remember my gambling addict of an Uncle, addicted to the gee-gees, was addicted to those roulette things and took my grand mother for a lot of her savings to get himself out of a hole and he's still an addict.

Gits! I'd nuke them from orbit...

I 100% agree with Max Rushden on this.

They are two separate issues - the club can get paid by betting companies. Though the players not being able to bet is a separate issue completely.
In financial services there are many restrictions on what one can invest in and when you take the job you factor it in.
It does not seem to be an issue for the majority of players.

It remains absolutely nonsensical that players who have played 100+ games can be seen as young players. Half of this list were bought for 30m+ ffs.
