The changes have to start at the back, right at the back.

Sorry Robbo but you've cost us so many goals now this season I haven't got enough fingers or toes to count them

What has Chimbonda done so bad recently? In fact all season has he really been that bad or is it another case of messageboard mind washing?

Why do the players who cost goals come under much more scrunity than the players who miss sitters? It's exactly the same outcome, is it not?

I feel so sorry for defenders and goalkeepers in particular. Not only do attacking players get involved in all the good parts of the games for the fans and score goals and that, but they tend to get much less hassle when they mess up than defensive players do.

No, it's not the same outcome

You start the game 0-0. If you defend well you get a point whatever else happens.

So you'd rather not concede than score? I'd take both equally, but if I had to choose I'd rather score.

That's a different question mate....

At this moment in time I'd much rather us win a few games 1-0 than 6-4 thanks.

As I've said in another thread now... Robbie Keane missed an open goal today, apparently. Had he scored, we'd have won. Had we not conceded one of the goals, we'd have won. It's the same outcome, just at different ends of the pitch.

Surely though Jack me lad that's a pointless argument because we're the joint highest scorers in the Premiership therefore the strikers aren't the problem.

Yes it sounds like they messed up today but it really isn't the major issue is it? The defence have been shocking all season and Robbo has been fairly shocking for a while now.

There's no doubt where our priorities need to be.

But it's still just as important in one game as conceding is. We attacked much more than Reading did today, didn't we? Robbie Keane had an open goal and Jenas had two one-on-ones. You can't just let them off because we've scored a lot of goals this season.

I'm not letting them off for today. But this thread is about the changes we need to make and my point is we don't need to make changes in attack but we do need to make massive changes at the back.

Ok, well that wasn't my point, but sure. I wouldn't say massive changes though. It just depends. On a lot.

But had keane not been playing would Defoe/Bent/Berbs or whoever else been there to miss the open goal? It's a bit like the Dawson deabte. Dawson gets loads of stick for making mistakes, yet we concede more when he doesn't play.

What does it depend on?

Chimbonda can't seem to mark people

Kaboul has just been a disaster from day one

Dawson seems to have gone completely to pieces

Lee can't use his left foot despite being a left back

And as for Robbo I don't think there's any part of his goalkeeping that I'm confident in at the moment.

There's very much a case for us buying a whole new back 5. The only thing it depends on for me is how much money we've got. If it's limited then the centre backs and the defensive midfielder are the priority. If there's lots of money to spend then the other areas should be improved when possible aswell.
