I'm gutted he'll miss that match and at the same not. What was he thinking with his foolish behavior? Crouch/Keane/Pavs are all good enough.

Agree with this. If we are going to do well this season we need to prove we have strength in depth. We have three good strikers to call upon when needed (and yes, I rate Pav for his finishing), so won't be too disappointed. I'll be happy with a combination of any two of those three for the gooners.

The save from the free kick in the first half was the best save I've seen for years, top 5 of all time maybe.

Apart from his kicking, Gomes was top draw. MOTM.

Wanted to comment that as well. That save was immense, one of the best saves I have ever seen.

Shit game today but great 3 points and we finally show that we can win these type of games. How long as it been? 30 years?

I'd say for a game that had six yellows and two reds, Dowd had a pretty good game. I don't remember him making a howler. I don't remember any big penalty shouts. All of the cautions looked deserved.
Normally I'm defensive towards the ref, but Dowd today was absolutely fucking awful, he was conned time and time again by Portsmouth players going down like they'd been shot when someone disturbed the air around them and somehow missed some very blatant fouls on crouch, once even giving a foul against him.

It was the worst refereeing that I have ever seen. Completely ruined what could have been a great game. I'm just glad that we came out on top at the end of the day.

I have a soft spot for pompey and I really thought we were going to lose or draw. But at Half time I really thought we were going to hammer them. But Defoe ( Who I love to bits) getting sent off really pissed me off. Dowd was not the right guy to ref this game, I wish it was alan Wiley. But now Defoe is missing for the next three games has reall concerning, but this will give Pav a chance. But guys over the moon that we got three points and we still sit pretty at Third !

Thats a lot of buts.....

We were very lucky today, didn't think we played well at all. Defoe was very very stupid and deserves to be fined heavily for his kick out. From the very first minute he was asking for a Red card. Gomes was typical Gomes brilliant for 99% of the game ( and without a doubt man of the match) but from the away end it looked like he could have done better with KPBs goal.
I thought Keane was very poor again today cant remember him doing anything on the pitch for the 55 odd minutes he was on there. Was worried about Ledley for first half there number 23 was very very quick and gave Bassong & Ledley a bit of a run around for first 45 minutes. Luckily his finishing was dreadful

The referee was apsoloutley appalling though how Brown stayed on the pitch for as long as he did was a mystery to me. Lost count of the times he lunged into tackles 2 footed and studs showing.

Having said all that am delighted with the win said to the 2 guys next to me would have taken a draw after Defoe was sent off. This is the type of game we would have lost in the past.

Highlight of the match for me was that mad take down on Brown by Benny. Benny was on the floor and brown, concerned about time running out, aggressively tries to pick Benny up. Foolish. Benny with a cold as you like screw-face grabs Brown's leg and slams him to the floor. Brown gets booked. I love you Benny.

Poor second half from us, but we held on. Phew!
Silly stuff from Defoe, but I do wish Harry had just said on tv that he deserved a red and that's it. Not blabbed on about how he warned him and how unhappy he is with him. Too much info for the media once again.
KPB seemed right up for it, didn't he!?
Dowd is like a pantomime dame. Such a drama queen and definitely playing to the cameras.

I agree. Ref's make a lot of noise about how players should speak to them. Defoe looked as if he was merely asking for an explanation had his hands down and wasn't shouting etc and Dowd was really aggressive towards him with his body language and shouting at him to go away. Him and Mokoena (sp) made the incident seem like Defoe had killed someone. He was wrong to stamp though, at least right in front of the ref anyway.

Mokoena is a prick, I think it was him that forearm smashed Palacios in the face away to Blackburn last year and didn't get so much as a booking, the was promptly subbed off by Fat Sam.

For such a big guy he must be a massive pussy the way he was rolling round, granted Defoe was bloody stupid, but it was barely a tap and Mokoena was about to get up then saw the ref looking right at him and fell back down in "agony".

Scrappy sort of game but I never felt we would lose, even when Pompey put on the pressure when we were down to ten men.

Gomes was good today. The ref was a gesticulating pillock.

Defoe and Gomes, such clowns. Both secured as 3 points today but easily could've cost us all three. Idiots.

We didn't play that well, it was scrappy but we came away with a win. That is serious growth. We defended well at the end when we needed to and Gomes made a few top drawer saves to keep us in it. We now have 10 points from 5 away games.

we only used to win away when we played awesome. Now we're winning by playing awesome and having to dig deep and grind out wins. We're doing well.

i agree it is serious growth for us. great win.

Gomes made more than a few fantastic saves today. My analysis is that Cudicini doesnt make these saves as he doesnt have to. He organises the defence well enought that this doesn't happen. Gomes is far and away the better shotstopper but his poor organisation of the backline is a bit worrying.

We didn't have many attacks, but did well at set plays and Defoe hit the post, great skill by Crouch on the solo effort and Lennon should have scored and done better when Defoe sent him away. So we created enough just were very slack at the back.

It's massive progress that we managed to get the win with a clearly jaded Bassong, only using Wilson at the end.

Pompey though had fantastic spirit and respect to Boateng, his celebration said it all he is a good player and I hope he does well there.

Happy to see Brown sent off, hate him, even when he was at Spurs I disliked him he is a thug of a player and his actions today were quite poor on both his bookings.

I am confused though as did Defoe get 2 yellows or a yellow and a red? A straight red is a 1 match ban v Stoke yes? But if its 2 yellows thats 3 games incl the derby

1) No, he really isn't; and

2) Yep, he probably will do fine there... next season when they're in the Fizzy Pop and KPB at last plays at his proper level.

He got a straight red. A straight red for violent conduct is a three game ban. Two yellows is one.
