Poch just wants to get the interviews over with.

He holds his cards close to his chest and spouts the same boring answers no matter how the game has gone and what the question is.

I'm perfectly fine with it, he's not employed as a stand up comedian or soundbite generator.

No he's employed as a spokes person for the club, it's part of his ridiculous wages

The best interview he gave was a pre match one a few months back, when asked why he'd selected Lennon for the game he replied with "he's been here a long time and he runs very fast"
I think what he was attempting to say was that he was an experienced player with pace.
I think his version was better.

He's the "head coach". I'm sure Poch would be the first to say that he's been told he's not the manager, therefore he's only entitled to give his thoughts, not a technical breakdown.

I'm pretty sure the club are much happier with his style, as he's very unlikely to get them into trouble or give any negative image of the club. Extra important considering how they are trying to get the FA on board with our facilities and so on.

He probably hates it and just sticks to his media training. Lots of people absolutely hate being on camera (speaking as someone who regularly points them at people), but he's required to do them by the TV deal.

So long as he's getting results on the pitch, I'm perfectly happy with him being a bit boring post match

My personal take is that its a delusion to think that Poch is somehow deliberately pretending not to speak English in interviews . Wishful thinking there .

He's still just hanging on in interview imo . I'm the same here in a foreign land so know the feeling . You can see Poch nervously concentrating on the question coming in...then slowly formulating one of his stock answers . His primary aim is (as is mine) to answer in comprehendible English rather than inform .

The result is that he gives dreadful interviews ,with little insight ,and very boring . He thinks he's done well if he has got his English roughly right . Soton had an interpreter which , like BC , I'd prefer so we could really hear what he is thinking .

And no , there is little sign of improvement . In a couple of years in the UK ,it sounds like he's not put much effort into language lessons,
....again a bit like myself :D

I just don't find interviews in football interesting or inciteful. The pundits talk about them like they are really interesting but most players are extremely cautious about saying anything controversial so they just fall back on clichés. Managers are often the same. It's not a knock on anyone in particular but I can live without pre or post match interviews.

I don't envy anyone having to learn a new language. If there is ever a time to start then it's when you're young. I think that it's easier for Scandinavians for example, it seems like a second language. I'm not making excuses for him but as long as he can get his point across in the dressing room that's all I care about.

Love 'em!
He's gone from saying bugger all to saying bugger all while actually talking:D and he seems to be the only one who's interview the post match pundits don't refer to because they're not sure what he said:)
I don't know why we have to have post match interviews anyway, its all about the television not the football, carry on Poch!

I know this is all in jest and stuff but I feel for Poch a bit. I'm sure he, more than anyone, wants to be fluent with his english but it can't be easy and is especially hard for some people than it is for others to learn a new language.

Not being funny but us English speakers have it pretty easy. We can go to any country on the planet and can get away with speaking our native tongue. I'd like to see how stupid most of us would sound to an Argentinian person if we were trying to do an interview in spanish!

There's no signs of improvement, that's my issue.

He literally sounds no different from when I listened to him give his first speech in English at a Southampton end of season do a couple of years ago.

He must be the worse in the league, AVB spoke a load of bollocks but at least you could understand it, Tim was annoying but he was pretty funny, as was Harry.

Mourinho, Martinez, LVG, etc etc all give good interviews and even have some bants in them. Poch tries, bless him, but it's not really working. Hopefully it improves next season.

Levy obviously made speaking English to the media an important condition for him getting the job so maybe he should make him take some extra classes.
