Not sure about “we’ll make our money back eventually” it’s looking like we’re likely to make less than 50% back on Lo Celso and god knows what will happen with Tanguy.

I think only reason we’re taking a different approach this summer is due to the cash injection and admission we need a shot in the arm to get back amongst the title chasing pack.

previously being run sustainably meant there was little room for fuck ups and every penny in influenced what we could spend on new signings.

I doubt uncle joe will be giving away 150m again anytime soon so I don’t think this ‘big club’ approach will continue past this summer.

Need that sweet top4 money consistently and a strong naming rights deal.

It’s interesting because I know there was some posts about “ah see this was the plan all along” and I didn’t want to make a post that might possibly be misconstrued into a dig but I certainly don’t think that a 150 million injection would have been part of the plan and was more about getting the plan back on track after a few missteps. I’m grateful they chose to do it because it’s absolutely feeling like it will enable their plan to come to fruition and I think the overall long term plan will pay dividends now.

They could have easily have just rested on laurels and hoped to slowly work their way back up without making an investment themselves but instead they chose to be proactive and I’m over the moon that they did.

Our central midfield has been such a huge problem since Dembele left and Wanyama got permacrocked. They absolutely dominated teams, with Walker and Rose pushing up and pinning the opposition back.

Having to play Winks and Sissoko together in midfield was such a hindrance.

Winks isn't the answer, Skipp has a lot of promise, and Hojbjerg has done decently since he joined.

Bentancur is classy and had a great first five months.

But I'm most excited about Bissouma. He's an absolute monster and is PL proven.

Just so pleased that Conte and Paratici have immediately recognised we needed a major upgrade in central midfield. And now we finally have four great to good options.

Depends on form and system, Conte always wants flexibility of having options to play 343 or 352, sometimes we will see Bentancur,PEH, Bissouma all start and sometimes one of them won't. That's why he bought Drinkwater and Bakayoko at Chelsea.
Bissouma PEH Bentancur in a 3 will not work. It’s why Eriksen on a free would be perfect. Eriksen Bissouma Hojbjerg midfield for example.

Why not? I agree that it would work better with Eriksen, but those 3 have good combination of everything.

Well Lo Celso played as central midfielder most of the time
Not sure we ever found the best position for him. for Poch he was signed to be in the 3 of a 4231 and then Jose tried him in off the right and central. He was rarely played in a central 2 and was never suited to it so I don't see the need to include him. I see Kulusevski as his replacement really, just more apt to our formation. Lo Celso has always been best suited to central attacking midfield but is best in La Liga.

PEH - Bissouma
-- Bentancur --

Would like to see this deployed at some point. PEH is probably the best CM we have at winning the ball higher up the pitch and generally making the right decision. Adding Bissouma by his side and we'll be able to put teams in a chokehold and capitalize on their collective ability to press and win the ball back in dangerous positions.

Some posts about Bissouma after our games against Brighton last season...
So true, he bossed the midfield that day. One of the best performances I've seen from an opposition player in years...
