Hopefully there’s truth in these Mexico rumours. Seems too random for there not to be something in it.

Really good news. As @dtxspurs said, if we can get a couple more underwhelming/non-existing performers off the books, it'll really open up the ability for hopefully some opportunistic buys that could help the the balance of the squad.

If it’s that much we should snap their hands off!

If it’s any amount of money we should snap their hand off.

Still such a weird thing. I feel bad for the guy. Obviously had a disastrous 1st year with respect to confidence, but played fairy well those last few games (was key in that Swansea win). But for whatever reason had the fallout with Poch that summer and then the horrible luck with injuries. I’ll always wonder a little bit what would have happened had we not had Llorente last season. Would VJ have come good given another real chance? We’ll never know. Hope he does ok in Mexico and glad to shed him since we’ve been desperate to.

National team striker to a Mexican league is a huge fall from grace.
Really hasn’t worked out for him.
I would have though a move to Celtic Or Another in Scotland or even the Championship would have been a decent move for him.
A lot closer to the public eye and a decent chance to find his goalscoring. Presume just no interest.
Huge shame for him.
But another squad space and salary for us to use

I hope he does, there’s a player in there somewhere, just has 0 confidence

Such a shame. I remember his debut against Everton, had 3 or 4 good chances, even one cleared off the line. Any of them go in and his career at Spurs May have been better.

Surprises me someone like Celtic haven’t come in for him. Pretty sure he would score goals for fun up there. Given he only has 12 months left and barely played for 18 months would think £8–£10 million would be fair price for him maybe with sell on clause and add ins attached to any deal to maybe take it up to potentially £12-£15 million.

They were offered him. They didn’t want him.

Liga MX is a decent league honestly. Andre Pierre Gignac made a similiar move, albeit I think he was a bit older at that point, and its worked out pretty nicely for all parties involved. Better league than Scotland and honestly about par with the Netherlands, outside of the couple of big famous teams playing in Europe each year, imho. They pay decent wages, other than the whole “we suck at paying them on time” thing ...

Didn't he turn down a loan move to Brighton at the beginning of last season? If that's correct I wonder if he regrets it. Could have been a springboard to at least get back on track at a decent level.

Mexican league though, fuck that.

That would make him Celtic's record transfer of all time, and he'd also likely be the top earner there (believe they top out at £25k right now). No way is he worth that to them, especially as their modus operandi is cheap young players to sell on at a profit. People grossly overestimate the financial capabilities of teams outside the PL.

I'm of the thinking that the reason he hasn't moved on thus far is as a result of wage demands.

Yes his form at Tottenham as a striker could be considered mediocre at best, but there have been supposedly a few clubs linked with an interest in the past, were Spurs demanding too much regarding the fee, or were interested parties scared off by his wage demands??.

As stated, seeming his stock has fallen so greatly, interested clubs are unlikely to be those that pay what he'd consider suitable wages.

Conclusion...he's therefore reduced potential suitors, but Mexico link might have seen him have a rethink, because I doubt they'll be paying wages he's become accustomed to either.

Onions.

A bit weird that he want’s to join a Mexican side rather than staying in Europe. He could easily kick start his career again by choosin a Turkish or Dutch side

And he’s ginger. Most gingers die in the first six months of living in Mexico
