Wanyama has listened to an offer from Leicester, but has opted for Spurs. Personal terms all agreed. Deal done - subject to a medical.

£11 million compared to the rumoured £25million fee? ill take that all day long.

This would be a very good signing.

Another transfer that just seems to make a lot of sense.

-Young enough to have sell-on potential
-Prem experience
-Cheap
-Has worked with Poch
-Similar player to Dier
-Will fight for his place
-Affordable wages (I'd assume)

Seems like a bit of a value for money signing. Also allows Dier to be more reliable cover for Toby.

Would be a very shrewd signing at 11 million. Gives us the option of starting the season with him with Dembele being suspended and Dier possibly needing a rest after a long season.

I'm curious, why don't you rate him?

Just never been particularly impressed with him. Think he's technically very average, passing isn't great, dribbling isn't great, can't shoot, not that mobile. Suppose I don't watch Southampton that often but never really thought he looked that imposing when I have. He's essentially a big tank, I'd just prefer somebody that has a bit of guile there - obviously that isn't what Poch wants, so can't moan too much.

Great signing for that money if it happens. I remember a few of our fans not rating Alderweireld when we signed him, how'd that one work out? We need players like him next season who will work relentlessly when called upon. It's going to be a long tough season with our involvement in the CL, no way Dier can play 50-60 games at the level required.

Fair points. Although I agree, he's esentially someone to back up or compete with Dier. He'll provide us with some steel against attacking sides in Europe which we desperately need if Dier ends up suspended or injured. I'd also like us to sign another central midfielder capable of pitching in with a few goals. We really lack goals from our current crop and I wouldn't be against letting go of Mason & Carroll to free up that space.

So that's where the guy got it from.

Don't rate him but for 11m you aren't going to get much better in that position.
I think that's the important thing. He may not be the most dynamic DM, but he's relatively cheap (I thought it would be at least £15m) and has worked with Poch before. Getting a PL-proven (and a player who has played in the CL) DM for £11m, is good business, as we could rest someone like Dier against certain teams and Wanyama would help us close games out, which was a problem last season.

We don't need/ can't afford super star. We buy Wanyama because he is a specialist, not many players get their jobs done better than him. Moreover, we play 4-2-3-1, a rotation of the CM2 between Dier, Dembele and Wanyama is really good to allow the attacking midfielders and forward to attack (We bottle our last few matches because Dier cannot do all the things)
