I know we have reason to think this considering our past transfer history, but this take is getting quite boring now. ITK seems a lot more optimistic this year and even so, we were very close to signing de Jong last year (who is quite widely regarded as one of if not the best midfield prospects in the world) save for a last minute decision. The club is clearly making more effort this summer, and Poch has said he wants to kick on and start a new project at Tottenham. Levy isn't an idiot

I want us to make this signing to stop these posts from appearing. Yes, we do make things harder ourselves sometimes but the market is not an easy place, especially for a club like Tottenham - who have been stuck in the twilight zone of not being big enough/able to pay 60m, etc for priority targets or deem others to be not good enough for a CL/PL chasing team.

I guess people will still always moan and come up with these boring posts though.

What please me the most is that whilst his passing and technical ability is sublime, he's also got enough of a presence about him to not be bullied out of games. That's a real asset in the PL

thought usually player contact/contract is done before the fee agreement stage.

Totally agree, you only have to look at our pursuit of Isco, I may be wrong but I remember us trying to convince him to come, he wanted to stay and we never really got into formal negotiations with Madrid.
