Well, I like your positive outlook, I'm still struggling, here's hoping :)

It's clear he asked to leave some time ago; Aulas' language simply betrays what's really going on. I work in a newspaper and I see this kind of thing happening all the time. It suggests to me it's been provisionally agreed for some time. That's not to say that Lyon and/or the player still wouldn't accept a late bid from someone else.

fucking hell, I know I said I expected news this week after the done deal but I didn't expect Aulas to come out so soon with that, must admit I'm half excited, now half nervous as it feels too good to be true but I agree with @Danny B statement that is has the feel of something already far along.

If you read interviews with Aulas in his younger days, he clearly plots out what he does regarding transfers. Initially I read that quote and presumed he was attempting to start a bidding war last minute. However on second thoughts, admitting a player wants out only damages a potential fee.

For this reason, I feel he may just be paving the way for his exit very soon and then he can look the hero, when he snatches massive money for a player that wants out.

Is it just google translate, but the tweet from Lyon has Aulas saying Ndombele is being asked by the biggest clubs. Thats not the same as asking to leave

Looks like two different sentences but he repeats himself:

"He is seeking a departure. Nothing is done but the door may be open," Aulas is reported as saying in the press conference.

"Tanguy Ndombele is wanted by the biggest clubs. Nothing is done. If he were to leave, we targeted a number of players. Thiago Mendes is one of them."

The early quotes in stories like this always get the most traction but also are often misleading or misrepresent exactly what was said so be cautious of putting too much emotion into them.

Caveat: Aulas is also a notorious liar.

In those quotes it still has that he would prefer to leave and also confirms the accounts 30 June thing so that's good, I expect to hear news of talks advancing towards end of this week.

He's talking bollocks, he literally said a week ago to keep an eye out for younger replacements, now he's talking about experience. There's just no way of telling either way from what he says.
