Why do people think that just because they’ve signed a midfielder, that his transfer to Spurs is imminent?

People need to be a bit more patient.

Ok. I’ll wait for another hour before they announce that we’ve signed him.

Aulas literally said himself that if you see them (Lyon) signing a young midfielder soon, it would indicate that Ndombele is off lol

Lyon were also being strongly linked with Thiago Mendes and Jordan Veretout in recent days. Although them signings Jean Lucas seems a promising step there's nothing to suggest that he is being signed as a like for like replacement. Maybe one of the other midfielders they are looking at is and Jean Lucas is coming into their squad in another capacity.

Jean Lucas

To be fair he literally said youngster and Jean Lucas (according to google) plays in a similar style to Ndombele where he can play in the dm role but his style is more box to box. Veretout is 26 and Mendes is 27. Veretout also is more in the style of Fekir.

Here's what I found:

There's something strangely old-fashioned about the 20-year-old's game. Jean Lucas stands out for his passing ability and long stride, sometimes breaking into the box like defensive midfielders used to do in the 1970s and 80s.

Think it's more to do with JJ constantly getting tweets about activity on here and articles. He's made it perfectly clear he doesn't want to jeopardise things so let's just remain patient and JJ will tell us things when he can.

Lets put it this way, I'd say usually we'd have heard that the deal is a no go but it's in the latter stages of the deal where we dot the i's and cross the t's but Spurs have in the past seen the ink be knocked all over the paper either from some1 bigger barging in or through our own ineptitude so there's no point in ITK sharing anything until we're past that point.

How can you jeopardise a deal that’s hardly been a secret? It has been reported to be close for weeks and somehow by tweeting or posting that it’s close to being done can potentially sabotage a deal :cautious:

The only way this deal can be jeopardised is if another club comes in for him and blows us out of the water.

It looks extremely likely agreed, I'm just saying that to assume that Lyon signing this kid means they will 100% be selling Ndombele is a little premature. We all know Aulas likes to play games and this Jean Lucas could have been coming in to add competition. It's highly unlikely but I ain't going to assume anything is truly in motion yet, for all we know Lyon knew they were signing this kid and Aulas used it as a driver to make teams think it's now or never regarding a bid for Ndombele. I reckon we should just wait and see what unfolds

Yeah I think your pragmatic approach is a lot healthier and better but admittedly I'm pretty hopeful now even though I know that's a risky proposition.

There's a lot of talk about Lyon selling Tousart as well who's another midfielder of there's. This Jean Lucas could easily be just one of two midfielders they need to sign to get Ndombele out the door. It's still early days as far as I see it

Cant see Aulas being in a rush either,he was begging others to join in to boost the price
Its us that needs to get it done because if its not there we have to find someone else and too few of the others fits the bill

Alistair Gold has been working harder on this transfer than Levy himself :D

I dont think I remember a transfer window where journalists have recycled the same story so many times. They're all as bad as each other. No need to report on a story if nothing has happened. They literally just say the same thing every time with no new info at all.

They probably do it because each article regardless, of the content, probably does good numbers if linked to a story like this because everyone is so desperate for a modicum of an update. It's endemic of modern football now where no one has any patience and everyone wants instant gratification, whether it be Spurs or whoever else.

Okay, I confess I've looked on this page around 300 times today... So I'm part of the problem
