Personally I think that quote just shows that Ange likes to challenge the players to want to be apart of thing's but he won't beg. The evidence I'd point to is what Maddison said:

"'He said one thing to me on the call, I hope he won't mind me saying this, but he said, 'whether you come or not, you're going to see a completely different Spurs team under me', and that kind of stuck with me that he said that. I thought 'wow there's that same self belief that I've got in myself'"

It's the same approach, look at how Maddison responded.

Actually I have more evidence, this was a general quote from Ange:

"Just about being open-minded and not bogged down by expectation and history. We are going to go down a different road. Not because it's better, just because it's me and that's what I do. It won't change where we're heading, it might derail it for a little bit although I won't allow it to be for long and it's about who wants to get on this train so we can get to our destination."

I think it's reasonable to say that there is a pattern and I think it shows it's not unique to Ndombele and inferring anything about his judgement of Ndombele is misguided imo. I certainly think it's reasonable to question whether Ndombele will respond or not but I like Ange's approach.

That’s as close to a “yeah he can exit stage left like now” quote you’ll get. Yikes
I don't read it quite like that. He's saying he's happy for Tanguy to be part of his plans, but if Tanguy turns around and says he doesn't want to be here then he won't stand in his way. Which is the way it should be for any player.

Don’t think there’s any hidden meanings with Postecoglou. He’s direct, honest and pretty open. If he says Tanguy has been working hard, then he probably has been.

By those quotes from Ange I’d imagine Tanguy will last about a week or so of pre season before he raises the white flag

It’s a huge hit for us and has set us back considerably but sadly we need to get this guy out of our club asap

No room for passengers these days however talented you may be in extremely brief moments

The way he's gliding past players so effortlessly reminds me of Mousa.

Would love it if it could all click under Ange.

I would not be disappointed to see a CM:

Ndombele Madders
Bissouma

Bissouma - traditional DM 6
Ndombele - mostly a box-to-box 8
Madders - mostly a 10

I would love him to be able to play like that for a full game and it would be incredible if Ange can unlock him.
He's just the epitome of a highlight player, which is such a waste and so frustrating.

I hope he gets there.

I am holding out hope that Ange regularly rotates and subs his CMs to keep them fresh - so they know they only have to go 60ish minutes, and nobody feels slighted at being subbed at 60 minutes. So, maybe Ndombele starts as a 20-30 minute impact sub, and works his way into a starter.

I'd rather see him play 20-30 minutes here, if he is happy, than 20-30 minutes elsewhere.

I’ve not engaged in the fat calling but I would still be interested to see how Ndombele would do in a fitness test like Conte did in South Korea last summer. Would be a chance to genuinely see what level of fitness he has compared to his midfield colleagues. Also, even if it’s not his strong side does he visibly give his absolute all or does he give up when things get tough?

Don’t think Ange is as fitness focused as Conte but does anyone have any more detailed info on his pre-season conditioning?

Maybe Tanguy just needed a friend...

Can't underestimate having good friends and good influences around you. They can make or break a man. I've noticed how he has been around Bissouma in alot of the spurs content recently.

Bissouma just has that positive energy and good vibes about him that it could rub off on Ndombele and bring out a side we haven't seen yet. I'm fairly sure Bissouma will motivate him to push himself further and this hopefully could finally be the making of him this season.

His talent is massively overrated. As people have said, it's street football talent, turns and flicks that don't do anything much to help the team actually progress.

As for people comparing him to Dembele or suggesting he's one of the top 5 most talented players Spurs have had, Jesus H.
I don't think Ndombele will turn it around with us. But I disagree about his talent.

He doesn't do flicks and tricks. He is absolutely elite at beating a press, one of the best I've ever seen. The way he uses his body.

Time and again there'll be two or three players on him and he somehow escapes with the ball and moves it up the pitch, taking the opponents out of thr game.

Obviously we need him to do that AND the other side of the game for at least 60min, and I don't see that realistically happening.

But he's as talented as anyone at what he does well.

Not that I have the greatest of belief's that's he'll turn things around and as of now we don't know the fate of a range of players, but I feel much happier with the state of our midfield and potential capability to play fluid football even with injuries, when we have Lo Celso and Ndombele available for selection as well as now Maddison.

Such a better balance than just Hjojberg, Skipp, Bissouma and Bentancur.

A lot of people saying that they think it’s only a matter of time before Tanguy is shown the door but I’m not convinced. I think Ange will work with him and he could be a vital player for us this season.
In both of the videos I’ve seen of Ange welcoming the players onto the training ground he pats them all on the back but always gives Tanguy a double tap which to me is that extra acknowledgement and warmth.

I could be well off the mark, but unlike some on here I still really want him to come good for us.

iirc Sissoko and Aurier were his best mates and he was unhappy after they left us

If anyone was going to be a positive influence on him, it would have been Sissoko, who turned his Spurs career round through hard work and determination.

I'd love him to turn things round but I really can't see it happening.
