Interesting that it’s two separate deals, assumed that it would be connected although I know swaps are very rare to happen. Appreciate the info as always.
Would have thought they’ll offset any monies should both deals go through

If Man U sign De Jong, I wonder how much Ajax get from the transfer, as I suspect they would have negotiated a sell on clause. They could be waiting for that money too, especially now that Timber isn't going to Manchester. I wonder if we'd ask about Timber too actually?
Depends if we have Timber bucks too.

Yeah I think the separate deals thing is so that one deal falling through doesn't affect the other. If both go through then the liabilities would surely be netted off.

We hold all the cards in this transfer. Ajax have made it well known they want him. Bergwijn has made it well know he wishes to leave.

Ajax can penny pinch all they want, but they’re due to sell 2/3 players to United alone, already sold Gravenberch (25mil) and now looking like Haller (30mil). If De Jong leaves Barca, they’ll most likely be due a % of that due to sell ons.

Ajax will be flush with cash in a few weeks, so I can see our side sitting tight on their valuation of Stevie.

Totally agree. We need incomings before preseason starts. Outgoings can wait.

Cards Ajax holds:
- the player wants to leave and has said so publicly
- this is not a crucial player to us
- the player definitely wants to go to them and a deal could be done smoothly
- they aren't a rival
- it is known our manager would prefer deals done preseason and has internal leverage to demand that happens as much as possible
- we are likely to want to buy players from them in the present/future
- we don't have lots of squad space for new non-British signings

This is just to say, we clearly don't hold ALL the cards.

We hold them and so do they, as will be the case in most negotiations.

Mike Verweij now reporting the Haller to BVB deal as done. I’d imagine we should hear of an increased bid/movement for Bergwijn here soon.

It feels a bit like the Berg move could be the first of many dominos to fall in regards to transfers for us. Surely we'll move quickly for his replacement?
Getting £25-30 mill for him and bringing in Richarlison for 50 is great business.

I can't find the original source for this - might have been on Dutch TV or similar because it's not on the journo's Twitter - but in any case it sounds like Bergwijn to Ajax is all but done

He’s done very well to increase his value last 6 months. Thanks Stevie - the effort was never lacking

He wanted to leave and didn't get his move but stayed professional and tried hard in the limited minutes he got. Good luck and thanks for the goals against Leicester.
