Shame, thought this would be wrapped up quite quickly.
It is obvious we value Stevie higher than Ajax does.

He still has the ability to be an important depth player for us and we are not just going to let him go cheaply.

Ajax need to stump up, if they want him.

I think this transfer hinges on Yanited buying Antony or not.

If they purchase Antony (rumored for a high fee) Ajax have dosh to buy Bergwijn and will be much more amenable in transfer negotiations.

That falls through, I don't see Ajax being able to pay the 20m+ being asked.

I don’t see it as being able to pay it, their model is based on profiteering on sales of Youth players as well as cheap buys, they have only gone over £20m once on a purchase, and are always + on Transfers.

Still not convinced about selling him. He’s been excellent in a front two with Memphis.

How can a club like ajax be skint? Theyre selling players for millions every summer window, at least every other summer window. Van der beek, de jong and zaich must have given them 100 mill...alt least.
Ajax’s turnover is around €125m a year. I’m not sure if this includes player sales.

They sell to keep up. They won’t be spending a third of their turnover on Bergwijn.

Frankly, they shouldn’t be expecting to get Bergwijn then. Ajax have the money, how they choose to use it is their choice.

Then we get stuck with a player that is surplus to requirements and wants to leave.

We really win in that scenario ?

I don't see much problem with this kind of keeping scenario. We're not desperate to offload him.

If a player can't cope with "we're absolutely prepared to sell you and honestly our valuation clearly isn't ridiculous, they just don't want you enough or sadly can't afford a player of your quality" then that's really their problem.

I am sure he is professional enough to put in, if he has to stay.

Also he could be very useful next season.

Not sure his contract length though.

He is obviously no ndombele, that we definitely have to get rid of.

We may not be desperate to offload him but HE is desperate to leave. Why keep someone who wants to go elsewhere for regular football in a World Cup year?

It's early in the window sure, but as it gets nearer to closing if he is still here then it's best to just let him go.

He might be a good professional but there’s no point keeping a squad player who wants to leave. It’s hard enough keeping players motivated to perform sporadically when they want to stay.

While I do agree with you, it is not worth selling if we don't get even a reasonable price for him.

Maybe more buyers will come in, as the window has just opened.

I would sell to Everton if they want him and we get Richarlison.

With all the players leaving in free transfers I just can’t agree. The more his contract goes down the lower his price.

I’m sure Conte wants a squad of players who want to be at the club. Keeping a player who is clearly not in the manager’s plans is just not worth it.

No problems with any of those arguments, but do you think we can at least wait until later in the window to see if anyone else wants him.

There was even talk man U were interested, and I would personally sell to them for right price. Over £35mio for them.

We should absolutely assess and see what interest there is. But no way should we be keeping him if there is an opportunity to sell.

And yet they’ve made £300 (£s not Euros) profit on 8 players sales in the last 5 years.

Bergwijn is clearly at least a £25m player. International strikers do not go for less, unless in the last year of their contract. No way we should be selling Bergwijn to anyone for 18m euros (£15m). Similar with Lo Celso - great for Argentina, Villareal’s best player in their run to the CL semi final, if they want him they need to stump up the cash.
