I haven't been really impressed with him since he joined. However I do have this feeling he is one of those players who when it clicks for him we will see a very different top quality player. He at the moment seems to lack some confidence in his own ability but Conte is persisting in picking him so must have faith in his ability.

Was really poor for the 2nd goal. It was a bad ball out from Lloris but he heads it backwards and puts us in danger. He then has to just foul and take a yellow card. He got forward well at times first half but he picks nobody out in the final third. There was one chance where he had 2 in the box and tried to pull it all the way back to Emerson on the other side of the box. Poor decision making when it matters. You have to hope that will come as he's still young but he's played enough games to at least show more. Its a shame we have to wait for Udogie because the left side is still not up to it.

What really disappoints me his the change in him compared to when he played for Fulham. For Fulham when in the opposition penalty area he was ice cold, no nerves, deadly, in front of their goal. At Spurs he seems for me out of his depth and unsure what to do.

Emperor's new clothes. People always talk about his potential and how great he could be, and his improvement...I just don't see it. Fourth season now and he's still bang average. I'm tempted to say he's fine for a back-up but you want to rotate wing backs without a significant dip in quality. I know he's still young but he's been playing for a long time now and I'm not sure I expect significant improvement.

Everything he does feels weak and half hearted. He runs and it’s like he’s in 3rd gear, he shoots and it’s like it’s half power, etc etc.

He’s like a cup of tea that’s only had a tea bag wafted in it for a second or two.

He wasn't great in the prem for them, but they had such a bad season that it's hard to judge him on that. Players often have bright starts to their career but then regress to their actual level. Shades of Tom Ince who was being linked with Inter for a bit but was actually quite rubbish. Sess is better than that but I don't think he'll ever be good enough for Spurs.

I just dont see it. I know some people on here really want him to become a top LWB for us but if he wasn't young and English, people would be writing him off already. He is just average in every department and still has no confidence to try to beat his man etc. Yes he has time on his side to get better but sometimes you can just tell when a player has it and when one doesn't at this level. Let's hope Udogie is what we have been crying out for as Perisic and Sess have both been disappointing so far.

Different level and a different pressure. A bit like Zaha for Utd vs Zaha for Palace.

I don't think I can ever recall a top 6 club amassing so many shite defenders in one squad..... seriously, I've been trying to all day, but I can't.

Sess has potential, but most of it is all in our minds.

I just think the amount of shit Emerson gets compared to Sessegnon is crazy. He hasn't been much better since he's been with us and is just a huge disappointment. If someone offered us £20/30 million next window I'd snap their hands off.

First time I have seen him score a goal like he use to for Fulham. Deadly and ice cold in front of the opposition goal. Great finish IMO. Lets hope there is much more to come.

People are way to harsh on this kid. He is having his best season for us and is slowly growing in confidence. He is definitely good enough to be in the squad and I wouldn't be looking to sell him personally.

Interested to compare goals and assists from LWB and RWB this season. If I get time later I might compile the stats. Gut feel is that Perisic and Sessegnon (sharing the games) have done a lot better than Royal (played the most games) and Doherty.

UPDATE (PL games only):

LWB = 6 GAs (Perisic = 0 goals, & 4 assists, Sessegnon 2 goals & 0 assists)
RWB = 1 GA (Royal = 0 goals and 1 assist, Doherty 0 goals & 0 assists)

He simply needs to improve his end product. The goal yesterday is what we need more of. Getting into the box and making the right decision as opposed to the safe decision.

there is a player in there but he needs To believe there is

I agree. I swear he scored a lot for Fulham latching on to through balls and finishing. Didn't he play left of a front 3 for them a lot of the time? Not sure LWB is his best position, as often he is fronted up and can't always beat a man. What I remember him being best at is exactly the goal yesterday.

He wasnt doing well prior to the goal. He really needs to work on his end product. The goal was a lot more like it but hopefully doesn’t end up a one off. Still looked better in place of Emerson mind when he switched that side.

Yes, he was poor before the goal - one of the issues is that although the goal came as a result of a nicely played through ball to exactly the kind of position you'd want a wing back to end up in - but how many times was that ball actually played before that?

As per the poster above, remembering the Fulham match, although weaker opposition of course, Sess got much higher up and managed to get a dangerous shot off which was unlucky to miss, won the ball high to assist for Kane's goal (assuming it doesn't count as it came off the keeper first) and then should've had another assist for Richarlison. Need to get him in the box more.
