Quoting this before you try and edit you silliness away :)
They did better than I thought possible, I've no probems admitting that. I still think we'll get undone against better teams without a more defensive minded player there. Everton were poor at moving the ball quickly today.

PS. What kind of saddo would you have to be to edit away a post that didn't go the way you thought it would?
It's a game of opinions, and plenty of knowledgable managers and pundits get it wrong all the time.

IMHO - he is best paired with Stambouli as the holding midfielder and Bentaleb is best with Paulinho,... just sayin'

one experienced player next to a young player is a nice balance and they seem to work...

capoue is surplus to requirements the day he was bought and as much as I really like dembele, his bad hip is making him look far worse than he really was when purchased... just sayin'

Yeah, was only messing about the editing although some on her definitely would.

I disagree on the need for a defensive player if they are primarily just there for screening the back 4. Those days are gone IMO, the art of being just a DM wastes a player and,for me. If you have two players who can both win the ball, make interception etc., even if they are not great at tackling, they're more valuable than a brilliant ball winner who can't go forward.

I think Mason and Bentaleb, between them, can both cover what a DM would do. The biggest worry is they both lack experience and positional intelligence which only comes with playing games. Some games, we will get overrun but I think it's worth giving them the chance to learn and make mistakes now for what they can give us going forward and because they want to win.

I'm more of a Sherwood in this respect, I understood what he meant when he said he didn't want to play a set DM

I agree with some of what you are saying, but I don't think the days of a pure holder are done. It depends how you want to play. If you give your fullbacks licence to bomb forward, then that holder becomes the covering player as the defence shifts to cover them. In essence, you are gaining two attackers for one defender.

As you say, they lack of experience in the hardest position to get to grips with at the top level, I think it should be protected with a holder against top sides.

Yeah, in reality, it's not black and white and the true situation is probably somewhere between our views.

At home, against teams we're going to have 60%+ possession, Capoue, for me, is a passenger, however I can certainly see the merit of playing him away against a big side however, then, I'd have him man marking the number 10 with two ahead in CM

Horses for courses, innit

You, sir, are a fucking genius. We found our partnership today, been waiting for these two to play together all season. Could develop into, well, I don't want to put juju on anything so let's just say, the talent these two have, at 23 and 20, with < 30 prem games between the, the sky is the limit. Need to be patient with them as, some games, it won't work but both of them WANT it. I love that

You couldn't have gone back a couple of posts to see who he was agreeing with?:(

Thought they played well today, though Besic and Barry weren't exactly going to stretch their defensive capabilities. I wouldn't play them against Chelsea because I don't think Bentaleb's ready for that kind of game yet.

Have we got any songs for him?
Nothing original yet unfortunately, only heard "one of our own" the same as Kane, and "one Ryan Mason".

How about:

He's played for Tottenham Hotspur since he was a little kid
I just can't get enough, I just can't get enough
He came through the academy, he is a lifelong Yid
I just can't get enough, I just can't get enough
He scores a goal and the Yids go wild etc etc etc

Still not completely original but at least there's something to it..

No point in coming up with anything. It's gonna be he's one of our own, he's one of our oooooown, Harry Kane/Harry Winks/Ryan Mason/Tom Carroll/etc, he's one of our own.

just can't get enough is an awful awful chant - it just reminds me of when Liverpool fans were backing Suarez during the racism thing and it's also bland and generic.

I'm always impressed with by how quickly Mason makes decisions, and how definitive he is when he does make them. It's like there's no hesitation once he decides to do something, and his decisions are usually very good. That shows that his reading of the game is excellent, and while he could probably improve his passing, it's that sharp, incisive play that has made him so effective.

What about something to the Flintstones tune?

Edit: Ryan, Ryan Mason, from the Tott-en-ham academy, now he runs the midfield and we're gonna make some history.

Needs a bit of work mind.

Good call.

Na-na na-na na-na na-na-na-na-na Nabil Bentaleb, Bentaleb, Nabil Bentaleb.

Could do the same for Harry Kane

Na-na na-na na-na na-na-na-na-na Super Harry Kane, Harry Kane, Super Harry Kane

I'm just going to say it, I like that a lot...

But with Bentaleb the preliminary stuff is part of his name, with Kane it's a bit shoe-horned in.
