Brentford played with a Back 10 and his teammates were always at least 5 miles away at all times! 😂

I wasn’t mad keen on the way his head dropped when he didn’t score but I think he’s coming in to be the main man after a fairly shitty season.

Patience and perseverance needed I think.

Early doors and all but I was very unimpressed today. I hope we have a plan, he will work hard but I don’t see him scoring a ton of goals.

Much better in the second half when he started getting a bit of service. Not sure what everyone expects of him if he's not getting the ball in areas where he can have an impact.

In general, we struggled with two wingers that would cut inside and play it backwards. Only Maddison was getting decent balls into the box. Given how high we play up the pitch, Richarlison is not going to get much chance to run in behind. It will only be by getting on crosses that he scores. As he showed at Everton, he’s good with his head, so we need our two wingers to get in crosses or get to the byline. The issue isn’t Richarlison, it’s how our wingers are playing.

Though I felt sorry for him I'm also wondering why some Saudi club don't want Brazil's number 9 for a bargain £100.

He needs to common to the ball, he was static a lot. He presses well but for me he needs to do more.
People are saying Brentford sat deep and that is true but we are going to be seeing a lot more teams do that against us.

As for saying Son and Kulu were worse (which could be argued either way) their issue is a mentality one. They have been coached into being so passive and afraid of taking risk. They will come good.

But he did contribute. Son and kulu contributed less
Absolutely this - he put in a real shift first half despite getting zero service. Second half he had one half chance where he forced the save from Flekken. Son and Kulu offered zero in the final third - I was amazed Solomon didn’t replace Deki.

Really don't think he was to blame for his lack of goals today, but I equally remain unconvinced he's the long term answer for replacing Harry.

Give him more games absolutely and I hope he proves me wrong.

But we at least need another option before the end of the window.

Big fish in a small pond, looks ok in a bottom 6 team but not good enough for a team with higher aspirations, even if those aspirations aren’t particularly ambitious at the moment!

I like the guy, and he always works hard. But we're just not getting what we need in terms of results from him. I know it's one game, I know it's the first game of the season. I know he absolutely deserves more chances and I know mere mortals who aren't Kane don't score every game. But if things haven't improved in 3 or 4 games...

Couple of things to remember:
  • We don't play international football - we play faster paced, higher intensity Premier League football
  • We do not have Neymar and Vinicius Junior to play up front
  • Richarlison's goalscoring record for Brazil is only "ok" anyway, less than a goal every other game playing for a side that's hot favourite in the vast majority of games
  • At Premier League level which is what really matters - his best goalscoring season is 13 goals. Ivan Toney scored more for Brentford last season than Richarlison got in the last 3 combined. Haaland's all competitions total for Man City alone is only two behind Richarlison for Tottenham and Everton combined after five seasons.

He is never ever ever going to be a prolific goalscorer in the Premier League, and honestly the hopium that our fans keep getting high off annoys the shit out of me. A jack of all trades but master of none, he just doesn't have the technical skill or presence to lead the line as first choice if we're serious about challenging for top honours.

I've seen far worse in a Spurs shirt - but we should expect far better for £60m and certainly expect better from our only senior CF.

Didnt see any more effort or delivery from Richy than kulu or son. All weren't great but Richy was especially quiet.

Any way he gets a first game pass but we need more options up front.

Would rather play Son through the middle and shell out for another top wide player if we don’t plan on buying another CF.

I feel as if we could suffer from the Brighton curse, whereby we will creat bucket loads & not always score them.

Hopefully Richy finds he’s shooting boots, at the very least, he needs competition.

Yeah, I think the issue is that Son is way less effective out wide and would be a lot better in the centre here.

This ain't wide man take-on mid 2010s Son any longer.

Willing to give him the benefit of the doubt but I’m not sure any of our front 3 are fast and agile enough for the system we’re trying to play.

Yep, plus despite him being awful last year he has demonstrated that he’s simply a more reliable goal scorer that Richarlison, and if we are going to play a dominant possession game then it negates Son’s main weakness in hold up play.

I would also rather play Son through the middle, especially if we will continue to utilize him like we did today, hugging the line. Its such a waste. Son should be in a position where he can do what he does best, shoot and score goals. If we want someone tricky running around at the wing, just bring on Solomon or buy someone else.
