I think we are going for Kelly instead, don't think Gallagher would move in winter though, and in summer I would prefer Eze isntead
Yeah forgot about the interest in Kelly. He would be the one, But Gallagher for me would be the perfect replacement for both Hojbjerg and Skipp. Eze are more a natural 10 or playing in the left role where we already have enough players to fill in. Then by moving Skipp and Hojbjerg out and just taking one (good) replacement we can make room for Devine to have some min next year.

Eze in Jan and we are cooking this year helps us out in so many positions.

I still believe both Skipp and Hojbjerg both play poorly together. They have similar limitations and it shows, but both have good engines, work rate and make some good runs forward. I am in no rush to get rid of Skipp until we get adequate replacements. We also need to consider depth if we qualify for Europe again, along with homegrown numbers. Just don't play him an Hojbjerg. No suprise Skipp looked decent late last season with Bissouma and Hojbjerg looked good alongside Bentancur early last season.

He hasn't had much chance this season due to early exit from the cup and no European games. I would definitely wait until the summer before considering his departure. In meantime he is good emergency cover.

Hojbjerg is consistently getting minutes ahead of him, so I think that once Bentancur returns Skipp will be sixth choice. I doubt he'll want to stick around although next season will see more chances.

I suspect he must be getting pretty fed up at not getting a look in. He did well in that friendly against Barcelona but Sarr really has stepped up and gone ahead of him. An injury or suspension to Sarr before Bentancur comes back and Skipp will get minutes in that role. Things can change pretty quickly.

He's not as good as Sarr though, it's a drop off in quality unfortunately.

Would not surprise me if someone like West Ham or Fulham came in for him. Homegrown and a good prem player but not good for this system. Even UTD would benefit from his work rate.

Alternatively. Ange may keep the lad around to see if he can adapt to his system more. Given his work ethic and character. No reason he can't?

Hojbjerg will get minutes before Skipp does. Maybe if Hojbjerg goes in Jan though.

If we qualify for European competition next season then we will need at least 4 club trained players to make up a full 25 man squad. With both Tanganga and Austin probably off next season we will really struggle to allocate those 4 club trained places. Selling Skipp would just compound that problem.

The question mark over Skipp is whether he has the required quality, not whether he can adapt to a system. I’m unconvinced as he hasn’t developed for a while now, but I suspect we keep him around until and unless our HG position is better

But if we wouldn’t play Skipp, would that spot matter?

Skipp will stay if he can show Ange that he can contribute, not simply that he is club-trained HG.

The only reason not keep Skipp for a couple of seasons is a lack of game time would hinder any further development.

He’s homegrown, great work ethic, can cover a couple of positions possibly (personally don’t think he is a box to box player, I would see him as Biss’s understudy. It’s where he played in youth teams). Until a brighter young light comes along I don’t think we are going to get any better as a 5th/6th choice.

I can see why PEH gets on first, I think he is more comfortable as an 8, and a midfield with both Skipp and PEH is in danger of being very stodgy.

The smarter move for me is sell PEH as his value is not going to be any higher, Bentancur comes in as an option in the Maddison or Sarr roles, Skipp continues to be the back up for Biss (and focuses on developing his skill set in this role) while potentially being a last ten mins option in the rest of central midfield.

Longer term we see how Devine and the U21s/U18s develop and if they overtake Skipp, grand. If Skipp develops, grand. If neither of those things happen, then we look to the market next summer at the earliest
