As I said a few pages back in this thread, I think this was the summer we should’ve moved him on. His stock is only going down from here - his level is far below our starting midfield and he’s not going to get much of a look in this season. Think he’s one we’ll be looking to offload next summer. Just doesn’t have the toolkit to be a top Premier League midfielder.

Honestly Winks still has more to contribute with when I have seen Leicester games. Skipp has to be the most overrated own product, not even a starter in the England u21 squad.
Ive said this all along, but i got battered for saying winks is better than skipp. You dont know what youve got until you lose them.

He’s HG and club trained. I don’t think he’s ever going to develop into a special player but he’s a hard working dedicated guy who won’t complain if he isn’t starting week in week out. You know what you get with him and he will always put 100% in. Every good team needs the odd player like him to round out the squad. No he wouldn’t be a regular starter for me but still a very good player to have.

Not sure Skipp is happy with a squad role, he's indicated before that he want to play and is willing to move if he's not given enough game time.
I reckon he'll leave after a year or two. And he'll probably send us out of a cup competition when we face him with a rotated team.

Winks needed a reset, he's just gradually got worse and worse since his first major ankle injury in 2018. Before that injury he showed a lot of promise. If he does well at Leicester I'll be very happy for him but we couldn't keep him on now.

Skipp has never shown the same quality for Spurs as Winks did when he broke through. More industrious, perhaps, and a bit more all-action so you notice him more, but not more quality. His loan at Norwich gave me such high hopes but he just hasn't kicked on, again that might partly be down to his long injury in 21/22.

He looked lost last night. I feel sorry for him in a way. Broke through under Poch (looked good i thought and had a range of passing back then) just as his game was developing. Subsequently the rudderless approach to our coaching appointments over the last 4 years - completely at odds with the football that had almost brought us to success - has left him without any sort of identity. He's a good example of what the last 4 years have been about. I hope he can be turned around with good coaching but understand it may be too late for him at spurs

The pace was just too much for him last night. With better players around him, and a forward line that the ball doesn't just bounce back off, he might have coped better. But it's a weakness all midfields will try to exploit now. Worrying.

This isn't knee jerk, I've always thought he's an extremely limited player.

In much the same way as Winks, the only thing that has brought him time is the fact he is from our academy.

Hes the sort of midfielder you'd see in a newly promoted team and think 'he looks decent' then realise after 3 or 4 games he's championship level at best.

I've been guilty of over-hyping Skipp in the past but I'm gradually coming to realise he's probably going to end up a bit-part squad player at best.

He's got his uses and a great character to have around the squad - Spurs through and through - but I was hoping he would've pushed on a bit after such a significant amount of first team football over the past year. Not sure he's not the technical ability or the consistency to be much more than a squad player at the top end of the table, sadly.

Let's not make him a scapegoat, though. You need players like Skipp in a squad and he's got bundles of energy, enthusiasm and a massive appetite to improve so I wouldn't write him off yet.

Skipp’s an interesting one as development-wise it didn’t see he was miles away from Sarr. Like as recently as last season I think of them both starting at the San Siro and really impressing - albeit Sarr more.

But even though Skipp was getting the nod more often that Sarr it seems like they’ve swapped places in that Sarr’s ahead of him and by a fair way now. Obviously development isn’t linear and don’t want to write him off yet, especially if Højbjerg is sold. But feels like we’ve seen this movie before….

Is skippy becoming the forgotten man? Not getting game time and on page 5 on here?

Maybe we see him in Jan when AFCon begins. For me he's where he should be which is the last in the pecking order.

If we are really fighting for top spots when Jan comes I would like us to start preparing the squad a bit for next season with CL. Move Skipp, Lo Celso, and Dier out and take Gallagher and Milenkovic so the dropoff when we make changes in the CB spot and Gallagher can both play as a 10 in the Maddison spot and replace Bentancur/Sarr in the 8.

I think we are going for Kelly instead, don't think Gallagher would move in winter though, and in summer I would prefer Eze isntead

All comes down to what Skippy wants in his career. If he his content with playing on a big club like Spurs in a rotation or backup role, I think he is brilliant to have in the dressing room. Positive attitude, well liked, and will do a job when called upon. If he wants to be a starter and have significant playing time than we will have to move him at some point.
